Speedway took place in 1932 at the Catford cricket ground in Penerley Road in 1932. Any information please?

It may also have been used for midget car racing in the 1930s according to this reference:

There appears to have been various venues involved with both speedway and midget car racing at various venues in the Catford, South London, area in the early 1930s. These Links may help in regard to all THREE of them including the subject of this section: I APOLOGISE if some are duplicated.

Tom Bradbury-Pratt promoted a short season of speedway at Catford Greyhound Stadium in 1934. The 280 yard track was opened on 1 September and several meetings were held. Further attempts to open the track were made in 1938 and 1949, but neither were successful.

The sound of speedway bikes was heard in the Greyhound Stadium again however at the beginning of 2000. A film called Honest, set in 1968 and directed by Dave Stewart (of Eurythmics fame), called for a speedway scene. Catford Stadium was chosen as the location because it still looked like a stadium from the 1960s. Amongst the riders taking part were Barry Briggs, Jim McMillan, Nigel Harrhy, Mike Smart and Col Smith. The stunt co-ordinator was former Canterbury rider, Lex Miller. The filming of speedway at the track started rumours that Catford might return to league racing, but, sadly, it never happened.

Regarding the stunt co-ordinator - I'd be willing to bet my boots that it was actually Lex Milloy.

He was a junior on the northern circuit, last seen riding out of Powderhall in 1977. His appearance for Canterbury was as a guest at Belle Vue in what was the first ever BL 2nd division match, 8/5/68.

He left Scotland to follow a career as a stuntman. He did most of the motorbiking scenes in cult 1985 movie 'Restless Natives'.

According to film buff website IMDb Lex Milloy is also known for his work on Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991), Ali G Indahouse (2002) and Spies Like Us (1985)
