eric i
Don't understand what you mean. I'm in full support of Rob, and of course its right that he keeps his fans informed. But that's just what they are, current fans that are keeping the club alive at the moment. All I'm asking is, that's it's those that no longer attend that need addressing in whatever way possible. So your comments make no sense, as I have at no point said that Rob shouldn't keep the fans informed, it's common sense that he should, and does. I get your point that the plea for more supports would be better in the wider press but you said it was a 'waste of time' putting a statement on the club website. stratton
If Swindon were in the same position i would be willing to pay 20 pound a week rather than 17 i am sure others would do as well.I know it does not solve the problem but new supporters are not going to appear out of the woodwork overnight.I also have no idea what the answer is,back to Scunny would they consider EL ?i don't know what the sky money is would that capital help.I know they would need a couple of riders to be competitive more exspense but fingers crossed Scunny survive it would be a disaster if we lost them.
Mimmo
I get your point that the plea for more supports would be better in the wider press but you said it was a 'waste of time' putting a statement on the club website. Okay, we've mistaken what each other meant. I didn't actually mean it was a waste of time putting it on the website, what I was trying to put over, as you now appreciate, is that those reading it on the website are already showing loyalty to your wonderful club. Sadly those that have walked away probably won't be reading it, and they are of course the ones that need to be reached...........somehow. Other clubs are in a similar position to yours, and it is a very worrying time for the sport that we both so much enjoy, especially people like Rob and so many others who pump endless thousands of pounds in trying to keep it alive. I don't get to visit Scunthorpe very often, as I said, but over the past 2-3 years, I've introduced approximately a dozen newcomers to my local track plus a neighbouring one, and not one of them has returned for a second time, ALL giving the same reason that for them, it takes too long to get through what is basically a 15-minute meeting. I'm a die hard, so put up with things as they are, but must agree that barring incidents, no bog standard meeting should take more than 90-minutes to complete. I'm not suggesting that is the cause of the problems at Scunthorpe, because I don't know how long it takes to get through your meetings, but if it is part of the reason, then that particular matter should be rectified. Anyway Eric, all the likes of you and I can do, is keep hanging in there with our support, and just hope and pray the rough ride suddenly becomes a lot more smoother. Best Wishes, and good luck to you all at that fine club of yours.
customhouseregular
What is the average weekly attendance at Scunthorpe?. Does anyone know the average weekly attendance at the various tracks around the country?. One for Norbold I think...what was the average weekly attendance at tracks 50 years ago?. I keep reading about the decline of British speedway but how do gates at Poole, Coventry and Kings Lynn compare with the gates in the mid-late 60's?. Popular Post sommelier
Well having read this forum, i was going to Somerset on Friday, but me & my partner will be making the trip from Bristol to give Scunthorpe our support
customhouseregular
It may not be relevant but I would like to know. If gates are say 50% of the level of 50 years ago, that may suggest that giving people what they had then would entice them more than giving them what they are currently getting. e.g...One league of 21 teams, no d/ups. no stupid gimmicks...just 20 home and 20 away league meetings, a k.o.cup competition and great individual meetings. Just a thought.

What a gesture sure everyone at the EWR will welcome you warmly. Have a safe trip up.

You'd probably be looking at closer to 5%, rather than 50% at a lot of places :-(,,, fans were able to smoke freely anywhere and drink beer out of glasses, but things have changed, plus everything is so bloody expensive these days,,,
Albert
Perhaps 6 man teams, 13 heat matches is the way to go... More 4 team tournaments to boost visiting support... what cost benefit would that make to promotions? Probably too late to help Rob at Scunny, but for the good of the sport?

More 4 team tournaments to boost visiting support... what cost benefit would that make to promotions? Probably too late to help Rob at Scunny, but for the good of the sport?I presented a plan for the sport two years ago; Rob had a copy and its all in there what we need to do; including switch to 6 man teams; merger of leagues then split north/south. 8 man squads; centralised contracts to allow one marquee rider at each club. Individual track championships; return of Golden Helmet match race. 3 team tournament to bring local fans into tracks from local rivals. We have to be prepared to take a step back; re-group at our most sustainable level (Premier) and change. If something aint working you just dont carry on regardless you do something about it. Doing nothing as usual; is no longer an option.

Guest
Depends where in Poland they come from, speedway in Poland pretty much renationalised. Renationalised - do you mean regionalised? We have some Polish neighbours who looked rather blank when I asked if they had seen speedway in Poland. But they knew all the Polish football clubs and leading players when asked about them. Same here; friend of mine his Mrs is Polish; as an ice breaker I waded in with "your all big Speedway fans in Poland yeah? - Tomas Gollob ?..she looked at me completely clueless. Tsunami
But you can still reflect on how you lost the support the loyal supporter over the years the stupid rules have played a massive part. You can reflect on anything you like, but the world is a different place, with more social activities and expectations. Nothing you can extract from 'reflections' will point you in the direction of a speedway salvation.
thebaron
Does anyone think before we do finally go to that big track in the sky; Rob and the team might call a meeting and give folks chance to have a say ? Or do we all just clear off 31 August and never darken door again ? Sad if that was to be the case.
semion
It seems In Football more and more teams are being run by Supporters Trust's In Speedway isnt this what has happened at Edinburgh ? Would it work at Scunny ?
