2016 Sgp Swc Calendar & Info's

I would have thought there would be very few who would flag cardiff, the majoriry would surely do this in addition?

 

And what if they don't? 40,000 fans already represents more than the combined regular speedway going public, so what if even only 5 or 10K fans decided to opt for a Belle Vue rather than Cardiff GP?

 

You also won't be able to charge anything like the ticket price for Belle Vue compared to Cardiff, so there's a substantial revenue drop as well. Then the Welsh Government starts questioning why fans are spending their money in Manchester when they could be spending it in Cardiff, after shelling out hundreds of thousands for the privilege of bringing the British GP to their city.

 

There's too much to lose and not enough to gain. Poland is a different story because there's a bigger fanbase there, and local councils there were falling over themselves to pay daft money to BSI to bring GPs to their cities. Sweden is an interesting one as you'd have thought Malilla might potentially take fans away from the prestige round at Stockholm, but as I said, I seem to recall hearing a rumour this was down to some legal agreement.

 

Why is there a need for another GP in Britain anyway? There are already too many GPs and running it as some sort of permanent full-time circus seems as far away as it ever did.

BSI only went back to Malilla after sexy Gothenberg became untenable due to dwindling attendances,think they may be sourcing another Swedish track in a couple of years as Stockholm seems to be going the same way.

The current prize money structure for each GP pays the GP winner $12,000, the 2nd place gets $8,800, 3rd gets $7,200 and 4th gets $6,200.

 

The money then decreases for each position and the 16th place gets paid $3,400

 

The two track reserves get $1,000 each

 

The total prize money for each GP amounts to $84,500 (~£55k at current exchange rates)

 

Always wondered about this. Still $84 500 prize per event, doesn't appear to be very much for the pinnacle of the sport. I thought it would have been more. At $50 per person, the prize pool is covered by just 1690 paying fans. Maybe there is an overall final place payment as well.

The prize money is listed in the FIM rule book. Thats all the money that the FIM quarantees. BSI pays on top of that. Exact amount is unkonwn.

Philip Rising told us the up front payment started when the big money extra race finished- not sure if I dreamt the amount but I think 10K was mentioned.

Wasn't the last big race money around 100k. So if every rider gets 10k in the start of the season for "free" from BSI, thats about two rolling bikes with top parts. I could call that substantial help.

 

EDIT: Regarding Tampere SGP2016, I read yesterday that promoter Jarno Kosonen had said after the GP that the time slot for the Tampere SGP might change next year. First of the Finnish football games for UEFA2018 is on Oct 9th 2016 at Ratina. Which currently is still without a pitch.

 

So a 100 meters shorter track at Ratina on top of the pitch that will host UEFA football in October 2016...

The Welsh Govt could ask the hoteliers of Cardiff why their exorbitant price rises had driven fans to go to Belle Vue instead.

I'm all for making hay while the sun shines but how they can justify what in some cases is a 100% price rise for certain dates is beyond belief.

Try booking a hotel in Cardiff for GP day the day before the GP. You can't get one, the hotels are full. That suggests their pricing is either spot or or potentially slightly too low.

Good point, but 150 pounds for a night... no thanks. Been to Cardiff a couple times now but never stayed in a hotel there... crazy prices if you ask me. One time I drove there from The Netherlands and back on a day, better then throwing my money away lol.

Prices in city centre hotels rise whenever there is a big event taking place in the city - Manchester is the same, and if there was a "big" meeting at Belle Vue ie a GP, then you will find the hotel prices in city centre and a few miles around the stadium will rise a lot. There is an indoor arena in Manchester (not big enough for speedway) and when top artists are on hotel prices will rise, inevitable.

I would imagine this applies to the likes of Amsterdam too (for DutchGrasstrack)

I,m paying £200.00 a night for hotel in Cardiff in 2016.

It is a nice hotel though, not a chain hotel. :t:

Yes, but if enough people are prepared to the exorbitant prices, then why should the Welsh Government really care. For that matter, why should BSI care?

WOULD be amazed if SGP returns to Finland in 2016 ... lot of unpaid bills including for production of programme!

Interesting, BSI potentially embroiled in more legal action. One suspects it's also going to be up to you to get money out of the Finnish promoters rather than BSI.

Looks like Gorzow doesnt want to host a GP next year.

 

It seems that the Warsaw experience is starting to develop a long term sour after-taste....Ole Olsen / BSI / etc keep shooting themselves in the foot and Gorzow don't want any blood on their carpets, thank you very much.

 

Next thing to watch out for is whether there may be any future rounds of the SEC or other OneSport events held at the Edward Jancarz Stadium.

I wonder in fact if there was enough animosity at Warsaw for there to be a mutual parting of the ways there, and if that could leave Torun as the only GP in Poland next year?

THINK that more than any other country the Polish fans want to see their own riders and to see them at the very least in with a chance of winning. Gollob has obviously left a massive void, Hampel is now injured and may never be the rider he was, Kaspzrak always an enigma and never that popular in his home country anyway.

 

Polish speedway in general and the SGP in particular desperately needs the new breed, now being led by Janowski with the Pawlicki brothers, Zmarzlik, perhaps Dudek and Przedpelski to step up to the plate and have the desire and ambition to become World Champion.

 

Sweden, despite their shock SWC victory, still mourn for Rickardsson and right now LIndback is probably their only rider who might put bums on seats.

 

Latvian promoters say that their somewhat disappointing SGP attendance was due to virtually no Polish fans travelling... ironically the meeting was won by Janowski of course.

 

If there is a SGP at Warsaw next year, which is more than likely, the lack of 'Gollob's farewell meeting' and possibly only a couple of Polish riders might be a serious handicap to pulling in a viable crowd along with the legacy of 2015.

 

Having said all that, from what I hear the Gorzow drawbridge hasn't been raised just yet.
