ColinMills
Just let a reserve ride for any reason - the way it used to be. If you avoid a team putting a ringer there, then limit the number of rides to less than what the 1-4 will each ride. pure common sense
SCB
Just let a reserve ride for any reason - the way it used to be. If you avoid a team putting a ringer there, then limit the number of rides to less than what the 1-4 will each ride. TBH, if Poland want to use Hampel, GB use Woffy, America use Greg etc so what? Riders get 5 programmed rides, do the same with the reserves, max of 5 rides, any 5 rides. Can be the last 5 rides if you chose that, end with a bang. But no jokers from the reserve
iris123
I agree with Humph.Seems a bit strange the way they are going about it.One country has 5 decent riders over 21 and not much under. So they end up lining up with 4 decent riders and a not very good rider.Another team has only 4 decent riders over 21 and a very good under 21 rider. They line up with 5 decent riders.....it's bound to happen at sometime

SPEEDY69
Allowing a reserve is a sensible idea. They should be able to replace another rider for any reason, the same as in league racing. The only possible abuse can be where a team has a recognised better rider at reserve than in the 1-4 - the team should have to justify why their reserve is at reserve to the organisers/committee and get agreement in advance. Don't see the point in restricting it to u21.

And who would decide if the reserve is a better rider than those in the team ? That has to be down to personal opinion. The manager surely picks his strongest 4 riders but as with Team GB we don't always agree with him. Just going on previous events where I thought the better rider was at reserve and were always going to get lots of rides. They can be deployed flexibly as well, in any heat which may be to the teams' advantage. As to who decides, as I said in the original post "the team should have to justify why their reserve is at reserve to the organisers/committee and get agreement in advance. " So you would willingly sacrifice a couple of rides taken by your inferior rider who is the main team to then bring in a supposed better rider as reserve. Uuuummmm !!!! The flexibility to bring them out against the top riders from the other teams, rather than have pre-programmed races. So you would bring a reserve off the subs bench to face the top riders from other teams. These opposition top riders would have already had a heat or two to get the set up right. Uuuuummmmm ! ---------- If you have a better rider on the subs bench then they should be picked in the first place. I'm giving you reasons why the best rider might be programmed at reserve. Why would the other top riders already have a heat or two - you could put your reserve in Heat 1 if you want?

You are arguing against your own point which is barmy anyway and your latest post proves it. Have a word with Rossiter as he may want a deputy team manager. You could be the difference between losing and getting really stuffed in the SWC in Manchester. Edited December 21, 2015 by marky

You are arguing against your own point which is barmy anyway and your latest post proves it. They wouldn't hardly be a reserve choice, which is exactly the point. A team manager could use them tactically in particular heats rather in a pre-programmed order. I'm not going to argue the toss about it - I was merely pointing reasons you might put your best rider at reserve if there are no restrictions. I think in the past team managers have occasionally done precisely that, but you know best...

Actually putting your best rider at reserve is something that often happens in the ice speedway team championship.Germany had Günther Bauer at reserve last year.Russia had Nikolai Krasnikov at reserve in 2014(I think) and Austria used Franky Zorn at reserve in 2013......in speedway it makes maybe even more sense as you have more flexibility
