Somerset And The Confederate Flag

Recommended Posts

Why other non-British items too? Blackhawks, Vikings, Maltese Cross... Even bears, lions, tigers, barracudas etc...

Then again, Christians could be offended by the use of "devils" and "saints" while other religions could be offended by "crusaders". Where does it end?

Steve

I think that you will find that Vikings and bears were to be found in Britain at some stages in our history along with sabre toothed tigers too.

No chance of race riots any time soon then. That has to be a plus point surely ? Where does it end ? The rebel flag has no bad connotations over here. Any flag you dare to mention could get some white lefty dickhead upset , usually on behalf of someone who isnt offended in the slightest. That crap EU flag is a symbol of suppression in Greece , lets stop flying that. Ban it at the Ryder Cup and anywhere else. Lets all get offended about everything. It is all total bull , its up to the yanks to do as they see fit , none of our business. If you go to far down the PC route , we're all doomed.

Funny you should mention Greece phloppy, but weren't they all up in arms about a flag when Yugoslavia broke up?:rofl::party:

It's not the EU flag. It's the flag of all Europe.

I don't recognize it. I don't have any allegiance to it. I don't even respect it. It isn't my Flag at all. A made up Flag for a made up European Union the sooner the said Union, the Flag and the Eurozone end up in the gutter the better.

National Flags I respect.

One day there might be a flag for the whole world and, everyone can have John Lennon's 'imagine' as their national anthem :)

When I was younger PC meant Peter Collins, nowadays it stands for something completely different. I know which one I prefer!

it's not 'proper cnut' is it ??? :( Edited by ruffdiamond

Just checked on Wikipedia re 'The White City Rebels'...

Happy to report that they closed in 1978 so cannot be held responsible for the 1980's riots in London... :D;)

I thought you were all about peace, love and understanding these days WK...

BTW...you could equally argue that your views on this matter are politically incorrect..

But I am Politically incorrect Yer Ropes.

I refuse to bow down to the convention of Political Correctness. It was never, ever thought of in my day and I refuse to be reconstructed now.

You are not telling me something that I didn't already know.

So, in a nutshell, you are right.

That was then, now is now. The same as the oppression and slavery supposedly represented by a certain flag that seems to offend some people...

Dont be such a berk. Its the EU flag , nothing more. http://europa.eu/about-eu/basic-information/symbols/flag/index_en.htm .

Why is obviously why your link says it's a flag designed by the Council of Europe to represent Europe. I'm sure we know by now that the Council of Europe is not the EU, even if the EU adopted the flag, but then so did the Ryder Cup.

It isn't my Flag at all. A made up Flag for a made up European Union

Except it wasn't made up for the European Union. And what flags are not made-up?

In your day it was also acceptable to put up "no dogs, no blacks, no Irish" posters, but fortunately times have changed.

You and your acolyte rmc might think so - others don't.

We still have the freedom to think what we like in this Country, regardless of convention.

I don't agree with the signs you quote myself but I also loathe Political Correctness in all it's forms.

If someone calls me a bearded old white git - I couldn't care less. I wonder what would happen if I said something similar to an ethnic minority person. I'd probably be arrested under the Race Relations Act.

These days it is ridiculous.

You might have the freedom to think what you like, although there are laws against inciting racist hatred which used to be commonplace 'in your day'. More generally though, freedom of expression comes with responsibility of expression, and a lot of those protesting about so-called political correctness, simply just want to be offensive.

I don't want to be offensive. I just want a level playing field for the indigenous population.

We aren't getting that at present.

We will always be able to think what we like,,, am sure you've been called worser things than that,,,

and if you did get arrested, they might throw away the key, but, your right,,, it's bloody ridiculous, totally agree with you there :)

So how do you define Political Correctness TWK?

It seems to me it's a term used by some to dismiss any form of reasoned debate about certain issues.

I don't want to be offensive. I just want a level playing field for the indigenous population.

So who are the indigenous population - the celts?
