Standard rubbish racing at Berwick! Why oh why do sky keep going back there that 3 years on the bounce and it's been mince each time

Must be something about the place when they keep coming back. I'm not complaining, there is a buzz about the town when Sky come. So why they never visit Armadale or such like? Must be a reason.

Pearson going mad because Berwick got back in it to lose by 8. Someone tell him Lambert would have been in 3 of them races 6 races - Berwick got lucky and still lost.

Couldn't agree more and I thought that Jorgensen should have been taken out for dangerous riding and continuous cheating at the starts. Tatum said that Lambert lost control of his bike. He couldn't do anything else after Jorgensen's dubious treatment.

Lets face it Berwick fans an 8pt defeat flattered us big time, Peterborough would've won by a far more comfortable a margin had the had Lambert for his final three rides. This kind of result has been coming for a while, six man teams don't work long time, especially if one of the reserves have an off night, last night both Berwick reserves had poor meetings. Which leads me to Mr Edberg, this was always going to be a big season for him, a one where he needed to make a real step forward, sadly its not to be. Don't mind riders having poor nights, don't mind riders coming last but I am not paying good money to see a rider literally give up, and not for the first time it must be added. Surely last night was his last time in Berwick race jacket.

It's not his job to, his job is to attend every week with his £, they should have someone already to do this sort of job but unfortunately they dont, no disrespect to Lani but she has a job as well as kids and therefore I feel as though there should be someone who just does this, like someone who is retired or someone with a lot of time on their hands who would be comitted to doing this

Promoter promote, supporters support.

The first meeting at Berwick was excellent, the two since haven’t been great.

Why would they go back though? I would assume because it looks good on TV, it is big and fast, there are a lot of people in attendance.

If the idea is that Sky dismisses tracks on the basis of a poor meeting taking place at the track they wouldn’t have many places left to actually show meetings.

Sky show games of football between sides like Chelsea and City, that are, on occasion, not very good and don’t live up to the hype, it doesn’t mean they stop showing games involving both sides. That is sport, on occasion it delivers on others it doesn’t Sky (seemingly unlike quite a few on here) evidently have the pragmatism to understand that.

Ow and well done Peterborough

Speedway on TV is never as good as live and that is especially true at Shielfield. You stand on the apex of the first and second bend, where I watched heat 15 from last night and see four riders all attacking the first bend, or stand against the barriers at the exit of the second bend, and the riders go wide out of the corner and you can see the whites of their eyes, or stand on the banking at the entrance to the third bend and you see the speed that they carry attacking the third / fourth bend banking, then you start to appreciate what the Berwick track has, and that is raw speed. You don't get that through the TV screen.

Even better, if you ever get the chance, watch it from the centre green. Up close, the speed, noise and the commitment of the riders will impress you. Again, you get nothing like that from TV.

Shielfield will never produce a hell of a lot of passing, the shape of the track dictates that, especially now the bikes are getting faster. Nothing the club can do about that, the football club are the landlords. What it does produce, as I've said is raw speed and fast racing.

This wasn't a party political broadcast on behalf of the club, just my opinion.

What is it with people in this country, we always look for the negatives. Christ it weren't that bad. I've seen far worse.

Sky do try to bring the sport to the viewers, and they have no control of what goes on in the races, so no one can blame them.

The track is not ideal, but they at least have one. I'm sure there are many clubs, who have closed down, would like to be in Berwick's situation.

Ok, last night, fortunes were against the Bandits from the start, but praise to the Panthers for their determination to win.... and win well.

Just hope Lamberts is OK following a nasty looking accident.

I agree I don't think the actual racing was all that bad, there were positives, I liked the style of parade ( I hope they continue with it ), and I think the two minute clock on the centre green is something that every track should have at every meeting.

Dont give up just yet young soldier, I can remember a couple of seasons ago when we had our first Sky meeting, this time against Newcastle. The Diamonds turned up minus Andrew Tully and Ludvig Lindgren, who was racing in Sweden that Tuesday night, many predicted a hammering for Newcastle, the won by 8pts.

Talk about history repeating itself. :o

I did warn you that it'd be rubbish

Don't think it was quite rubbish, against some of the pap we`ve had to sit through this season it was quite good really. I will try to watch it over again as it was on tv to see if I get a different view.

To me it was a lot better than some of the s*** we've watched racing wise this season, a few passes is a few more than what we normally get to see.

The racing at Shielfield has deteriorated over the last few years from the Complin, Smith and Mudgway days with only a few riders now seemingly being able to pass on our track, Kev fortunately being one of them

I always thought racing at Berwick was awful, but the Sky meetings recently have been a lot better than I remember. But as soon as Chris gave his track report, you just knew it would be like the olden days. Some tracks are better when they've been under water the day before (Vojens), but Berwick obviously isn't one of them.

I did warn you that it'd be rubbish

There have been a lot of meetings on Sky this season that have been rubbish, some of the elite league ones have been particulary bad, for example the farce at Coventry and the Lakeside match not exactly good adverts for the sport, at least last night we saw some decent racing in the second half of the match, with the elements not coming into play and a safe racing surface. Tommy Jorgensen and Doolan you could say carried Berwick last night but they are having to ride almost as heat leaders with the injuries to Barker and Vissing, so always going to be tough going, rider replacement only works for so long then it takes its toll on man and machinery, Berwick have tried there very best to bring riders in but as of yet cannot find a rider suitable or indeed wants to come to Berwick. Fair play to the young Argie he has came in with a very very little budget and is giving it a good go last night showing that given time can do a good job at premier league lever and a steal on a five point average.

As for you my friend your constant battering of berwick speedway seems to be somewhat harsh, and i am not quite sure what to make of it at times, do you have a some sort of agenda with berwick or is it your form of banter? i wouldn't worry to much though because the way things are it looks increasing like Berwick will not take to the track next season. Which would be such an awful shame as they have a great set of enthusiastic and loyal fans.

Bandits hugely let down by Edberg, and by Hall whoF seems to have lost the racing instinct he once had. Look at the reserve scores!

I presume you are going off just this one meeting for that generalisation and haven't seen him at all this season?

i think one of the best if not the best premier league meeting i have watched on sky was when sky took their camera's to scunthorpe v sheffield i even remember one of the commentators saying they wished they had a season pass or something on those lines. if sky are wanting a good advert for speedway then why have they never been back? the racing from what i have witnessed on my visits there never disappoints as kelvin would say "racing out of the top draw".

Sky need to go to Scunthorpe before its too late, one of the best tracks in the country along with Peterborough and Somerset imo and it's going to be very sad to see them go if they do, I hope that the fact that Berwick will be bringing a bus down to the Scunthorpe vs Berwick match will help their bid for survival as it is a track that speedway can't afford to lose

I didn't think it was near as bad as some people are making out.

Some people expect too much!

I assume Edberg's EF in heat 2 was terminal? He was poor (only caught it from heat 3 onwards). I thought he was woeful at Ipswich earlier in the year, but seemed even worse round his home track! Got to give Liam Carr a run out if Edberg doesn't pick up soon. Surely?!

As for Jörgensen and Lambert, it seemed like Lambert thought he could do some grasstracking ala Peterborough!

He quickly found out that wasn't the case!

Speedway - Panthers hit the top but Lambert hits the deck

Robert Lambert was hurt in a horror crash.
Mark Plummer08:37Thursday 09 July 2015

Peterborough Panthers’ rise to the top of the Premier League was accompanied by another injury worry last night (July 8).

The city racers overcame the absence of three regular riders to deliver a televised tour de force and triumph 49-41 at fellow play-off hopefuls Berwick.

Super guest Steve Worrall reeled off four successive heat wins to lead Panthers to glory at Shielfield Park in front of the Sky TV cameras and was only denied a deserved maximum by a last place in the final race when the contest was already over.

But the jump to the second-tier summit was marred by the loss of teenage star Robert Lambert to a suspected hip injury following a horror heat nine crash.

The Great Britain international was catapulted from his bike after a tangle with top-scoring Berwick star Thomas Jorgensen entering the first bend. Only the smart reaction of reserve Rafal Konopa, who managed to lay his bike down and avoid the cartwheeling Lambert, prevented an even nastier spill.

The 17 year-old sensation, who had already completed a hat-trick of heat wins, took no further part in a success sealed with two races to spare before busy reserve Simon Lambert’s late swoop for third spot in heat 14 clinched all four available league points and extended their unbeaten away record to five meetings.

Joint team boss Carl Johnson said: “I could not be more proud of what the riders achieved last night and it feels great to be back on top of the table.

“To win away when missing three of our own riders is a hell of an achievement and I can only thank the guests, Steve and Adam Roynon, for the part they played in securing a memorable win.

“The atmosphere in the camp is fantastic and the boys are quite rightly oozing confidence at the moment.

“It’s just a shame we lost Robert after a very nasty crash. Touch wood it doesn’t look like anything too serious at this stage, but we’ll know more after he has been looked at today.”

Panthers ruthlessly put Berwick to the sword in the early stages as the hosts suffered a catalogue of mechanical problems.

Six advantages and seven winners in the opening eight heats enabled the city side to power into a staggering 20-point advantage. Even the hosts’ tactical ride attempt from Jorgensen in heat five resulted in a Worrall-inspired 5-1 for Panthers.

The loss of Robert Lambert gave Berwick hope of an unlikely revival and they slammed in back-to-back 5-1s to eat into their arrears, but the magnificent Worrall ensured they were not able to build up too much momentum.

He completed a hat-trick of heat wins when combining with fellow guest Roynon for a 4-2 in the 11th contest before sealing victory when going tapes-to-flag in a shared heat 13.

And packing the minor places in the penultimate contest proved enough for Panthers to seal maximum points.

They are back in action tomorrow (July 10) when travelling to struggling Scunthorpe for a top-versus-bottom clash.

Captain Ulrich Ostergaard and fellow Dane Michael Palm Toft both return, but Emil Grondal is again missing and Lewis Blackbird, who stood in as skipper at Berwick, joins him on the list of absentees.

Czech charger Matej Kus, who piled up 14 points for regular club Redcar against Panthers last Sunday, has been called up to guest for Blackbird.

SCORES

BERWICK: Thomas Jorgensen 16+1, Kevin Doolan 10+3, Ryan Fisher (guest) 8+1, Fernando Garcia 5+1, Richard Hall 2, Alex Edberg 0, Rider replacement for Claus Vissing.

READYPOWER PANTHERS: Steve Worrall (guest) 12, Simon Lambert 10+3, Lewis Blackbird 9+1, Robert Lambert 9 (withdrawn), Adam Roynon (guest) 6, Rafal Konopka 3+1, Rider replacement for Emil Grondal.
