New Science
So what was the problem, it can't have been the track. It's the best prepared in the universe? The track is well prepared. Unfortunately the shape and material used don't lend themselves to the modern speedway machine.
stevebrum
The weather was good on Monday,Wolves had to win,Coventry top of the league, not on Sky and its still not full.People are voting with their feet because the racing is not good enough !  Not much wrong with the racing, it's the line up and performances that people are voting with their feet on.   Steve I've been attending Brandon and other meetings since 1959 but this season the excitement I used to have has gone . I've been to three meetings so far and it don't do it for me anymore and I didn't think I would ever say that about speedway That's sad to hear. Don't get me wrong I haven't lost my enthusiasm for the sport as i see at least 2 matches a week anyway. My love for the sport hasn't waned in the slightest. However the least I expect from my team and riders is effort and a ounce of pride. I see none of that so would I bother going to offer my support if they can't be bothered to sort out the issues in the team?? The EL I'm happy is a £20 sport (with programme) and I want at minimum effort and pride for that price and I don't think that's too much to ask. I cannot watch my side devoid of effort , so it's over to them to entice me back this season.
Dave Jones
The track is well prepared. Unfortunately the shape and material used don't lend themselves to the modern speedway machine. You mentioned the shape of the track. This is something that has puzzled me too. Sometime back I worked very close to Monmore , around the time of the stadium improvements, which included a new dog track being installed, freeing up extra space around the back straight area of the speedway track. Â One day a" big wig" from Ladbokes left his car with us for some work to be carried out. I offered to drop him off at the stadium, and whilst driving round there I quizzed him about the layout of the new speedway track. He was very clear with his reply, the extra space created could be used for the new track, and the decision was entirely in the hands of CVS. Â The extra space wasn't used , which is a shame really because monmore could have had a bigger circuit with a much better shape.

I've been to three meetings so far and it don't do it for me anymore and I didn't think I would ever say that about speedway   I have been going 1967, and the excitement is waning for me too. I used to go about 50% of the away matches, and for about 5 years I haven't been to any away. I will continue to go to the home matches, I have a season ticket, but more out of habit than anything else. A few years ago the matches against Coventry, when they used to win virtually every year at Monmore, the atmosphere was electric. I hated to lose, but the buzz was brilliant, now nothing. Luckily the friends I have made at speedway are exactly that, I see them outside of speedway, and I'm grateful for that.

You know things are getting bad when fans like Beowulf are starting to lose interest.
R87
Nothing has changed with regards to the track preperation. The track on Monday was prepared superbly and should have lent itself to some very good racing. Sadly we are not seeing it. Â I don't think it's any coincidence that the standard of racing at Monmore has never been the same since the introduction of these silencers. Prior to 2011, it was must see entertainment. We finished bottom in 2008, yet in terms of entertainment, the racing was excellent. Â With the drop in attendances has cone the drop in atmosphere. I've been inside Monmore Green when the atmosphere for matches with Coventry was raucous. It is now so tame from a Wolves perspective. I'm glad I'm not the only lone voice on here.It pains me to see what's on offer now compared to what we use to have pre 2011 in terms of racing and atmosphere. I think some fans (Stevebrum maybe) find it uncomfortable to criticise the sport,But the important silent majority have voted with their feet already. Â Â There is never any complaints or worries over the track at Wolves as it is always well prepared and very safe but there is hardly any home track advantage these days as most places of the track where the home riders benefit from are now mastered by most visiting riders too. Â Â Maybe it is time for the club to look at changes on the track in the size, shape and who rides it as the club has struggled in recent years and 2009 seems such a long time ago now. Â There's not much logic in that comment, taken to the extreme every club that had a poor season, and every club does, would be changing their track. Quite simply we've got a poor team, period. if we had a team at the top of the table the track wouldn't even be mentioned.
Aces51
On that basis Belle Vue would have changed the shape of their track about 18 times since 1994.
doctor
ive been a fan for over 40 years in the 80,s i did over 100 meetings a year sadly due to health and living in south wales can,t get to monmore no more ithink one off the main problems fans are loosing interest is guest .you get guest for any thing now rider rides in a different country got elite league injury only got the flue s..ts whatever rides in the prem league ban guest for all except no 1 and only then if he is injured. and if a rider declaires him self unfit stop him from riding any where till he is fit . stop doubling up and the res biggest load off b-----s they have come up with ie top 20 riders selected bottom club have first pick top club last only for poole top club to already have one off the top riders and the other top riders being taken by the clubs that own them . i think the fairest way would be to just have one draft rider next year grade them 1-8 on there 015 ave top one to bottom club bottom one to top

Dave Jones
On that basis Belle Vue would have changed the shape of their track about 18 times since 1994. I think the major difference here is the "opportunity". Belle Vue have had to live with an awkward track since the the day they moved into the greyhound stadium, and it has already been stated that the track at the new stadium will be totally different to the current one. Â CVS missed his opportunity when Monmore was re- designed, and he had pretty much a blank canvas on track design. However he finished up with something very similar to the track that had been there previously, when so much more could have been done. Â Incidentally the fact that Wolves are so poor this year doesn't bother me , quite the contrary in fact.

I just hope I'm alive when it happens!
