Malilla Gp July 25

Was I the only one who thought the track was rubbish ?? It gave a new meaning to the words Flat and Smooth. Christ, it even made Wimbourn Rd look flat. Praise to all the riders for battling away. So pleased no one was hurt. This was another occasion when a pre-meeting practice would have benefitted everyone. The track at the start of the meeting was terrible.....

Always felt the SGP's were held abroad because of better tracks, more support and better facilities, but watching last night there are many places in this country, that would do far better than what we saw..... Appreciate the weather issue, by frankly, I was disappointed with the presentation and attendance, thankfully the racing was much better..

Congratulations to Nicki Pedersen, a worthy winner. People can say what they like ( or dislike) about him, but he's always there or there abouts.

I thought it warmed up to be a really good meeting and thought the crowd was very good considering the weather.Doubt I would have ventured along if I lived in the area,so well done to the crowd, riders and track staff for putting on one of the best meetings of the year :t:

Brilliant result for Nicki against the PJ rocket ship. Title number four a distinct possibilty.

Yes agree, you can NEVER rule Nicki out, thought Holder showed a lot of speed. Lot of credit to Doyle, can honestly see him making the top 8

Tai's bikes look miles quicker than anybody else's

How the ref didn't exclude kildermand for his first bend fall I don't know.

Don't understand people having a go at Harris, he again performed as you'd expect.

Excellent meeting I thought given the rain.

Barring injury hard to see past a tai-nicki 1-2 come end of year, with Greg/puk joining them in the podium.

Current top 8 look like being top 8 come end of year I would say

WHAT planet were you on yesterday? Find me a rider who doesn't think that the Malilla track is one of the best in the world.

It was pounded by several hours of heavy rain from mid-day until after 6pm and although the covers did a job it still required a lot of work before the meeting could go ahead. Even Buster Chapman who have struggled to do better.

All the pre-meeting presentation plans went out of the window and the graders were still on the track while the riders walked a lap to see what they felt. Even then some remedial work was required on the first corner but all of them were fulsome in their praise for how the track settled down and wasn't just rideable but raceable. Pre-meeting practice was certainly not an option while they struggled to get going at 8pm with the various TV companies hanging on to ensure they could cover the meeting live.

I'm sure that many people would hesitate before travelling some distance to KL if the rain had been heavy throughout the day with a strong possibility that the meeting would be postponed.

Bomber seemingly produces one excellent ride per GP, so frustrating to watch. If only if he can turn that into 2 or 3 decent rides per gp. As for his heat win, we see that type of ride from Harris often at Brandon and against some quality opposition. All in all a decent gp and the track held up very well.

A fabulous GP, thoroughly entertaining.

To witness the riders fearlessly attacking the track when it was a bit rutty early on confirms my view that there is is no more exciting sporting spectacle in the world than speedway!

Just one thing - in the race summary section, Scott Nichols always clearly identifies the riders by referencing their helmet colour.

Only occasionaly do Nigel and Kelvin do this.

For casual or new fans, all riders look exactly the same, so I wish our two friends in commentary would follow Scott's example during the actual race.

Like you say, the track at Malilla is regarded as one of the best in the world, but last night, it was a shadow of the track we have come to expect. and I have no doubts the riders felt that way too. The track was as bumpy as hell and created a lot of problems. Now if you say that is OK then fine, but please don't question what planet I was from. Having seen Buster work his track miracles many times, he would've produced a far better raceway than want we had last night.

I thought the racing last night was pretty good, and after the first four heats track grade the track seemed to have settled down, and the riders were attacking the track throughout the night. We see far worse GPs frequently.

Can't believe anyone is complaining about the track. Racing was excellent, so to produce a surface like that given the build up deserves full credit.

That said the only person complaining also suggested the riders should have had pre meeting practice - when it was pelting with rain?!?

I always enjoy meetings where the track rewards riders who are prepared to attack it, it completely exposed the likes of KK and Batchelor for type of riders they are but i am not saying they are the only riders in the world like that, there are plenty outside of the grand prix series who are the same and wet themselves every time there is a little moisture in the track.

Excellent post - 100% agree.

ps. re KK's 'slump' - does anyone really know whats going on with him? Is he refusing to do interviews? It would make a good article for the Star to run. Love him or loathe him I'm sure most fans would like to know.

I have to admit that I was surprised by the suggestion that "walk up" ticket sales would be hit hard by the weather.

Away from the big indoor stadiums, surely by now the SGP series should be selling most of its tickets in advance. If it is still relying heavily on "walk up" sales, it's doing it wrong.

There have previously been reports on here of tickets at Cardiff being significantly discounted or given away.

Agreed it's surprising if the smaller venues are relying on a high percentage of walk-ups.
