Kent Kings Reserve Changes

Recommended Posts

I see that Adam is stepping down for a few weeks. The Kings are looking to make a new signing at reserve. Any chance it could be Benji Compton that would be brilliant. His Premier League average is low, what would it multiply by for National League and would he be interested? It could boost his confidence for Somerset. Is he still riding?

What about that one that guested at Cradley for you? Was it Jack smith or something?

Yes, we are not too sure about him. When Adam was dropped we thought Jack was his replacement but it was never confirmed. Then he wrenched his knee and wasn't available for the next meeting. So it could be Jack signing on officially. We could really do with another as well though to turn things around. Danno at reserve is scoring no better than he was when at No.2.

Maybe time will tell and they drop him as well. Then both riders that have been suggested could be a possibility (haven't checked the numbers)

Doesn't matter on his PL average he'd still come back on his 8.95 he finished on last year.

Still not seen Smith ride but does sound like he needs more time? There is an obsession with unearthing the next big thing at the moment and chucking youngsters in a little too early?

Kent is a far southern outpost and may be a little far for some riders to consider on a Monday evening.

I did see Chris Hunt at the Mildenhall meeting on Sunday probably thinking they have lower order woes too but I wish one of the Kings reserves would score paid 17!

He said he was still doing the challenge and some mdl racing, it's just the national league he has stepped away from for a while.

A bit different in enthusiasm to the old days. I remember in the late 1950s when Bob Warner, who lived in North Surrey, went to Bradford for one second-half junior race.

Bob was never a star - but did turn in winnig rides for England in a junior test at Eastbourne in the 1950s - and like ALL juniors at the time would go anywhere for racing experience.

Times and attitudes to speedway have changed over the years and that's why the sport is on a spiralling downward course. Stand by for the ultimate crash! It will come.

From the International Speedway website: "

OFFICIAL

This match was officially designated as a "Junior Test Match", and is notable for the first international team appearance of Ivan Mauger. England were without Leo McAuliffe, who broke down on the way to the track, so Ross Gilbertson replaced him in the team and Bob Warner, who had attended the match as a spectator, borrowed novice Ken Vale's equipment and became reserve. It was to be the peak of Warner's speedway career for, with Overseas holding a 3-point lead after 11 races, and England robbed of the services of Bobby Croombs and Frank Bettis through injury, he was called on to ride in 5 of the last 7 races, and his 8 points gave England the match."

Next up on trial tonight is Ben Basford. From what ive seen his equipment is pretty good, a hard slightly fiery racer and very Northern.

Going to cost a few pennies in fuel allowance to get him here. He's already had spins for Buxton & Birmingham so shouldn't be a new experience but if they didn't want him......either way a tough test tonight but going to watch with an open minded approach (for once)
