Swc...3-man Teams And R/r.

Recommended Posts

Good point Norbold, but if the SWC was restricted to countries who could put out a competetive quartet, the event would be a single meeting only,

And why not have the tactical option of putting your 'best' as reserve if that suits.

I just don't see what detriment that woukd create, that we want to stop.

The tactics involved would at least give Tatum and Pearson something to talk about.

Something to talk about? It would leave them confused for hours! they dont get the SWC and tactics, just "JOKER TERRITORY"

But then you'd have to divide the 'prize money' five instead of four ways, and it's hardly very generous now.

But instead of sitting your grandchildren on your knee showing them photos of your old bank statements give them a gold medal to hold that grandad won when he was with his team mates the best in the world

Not having a dig at you HA just a comment re money motivation. To me and I know I'm a bit strange at times I'd rather be a well off winner than a Rich loser

It was ever thus. I've got ian thomas account of the 80 grand slam team and the issues they had gettiñg non riding reserve john Davis paid the equivalent of 4 rides start money.

I haven't worked it out, but I suspect it would be possible to devise a balanced 18 heat, 3 programmed riders per team format. That would allow the fourth rider to be a non- programmed reserve.

3 ridersbis barely a team. Personally would love to see a world pairs (no reserve), world cup (4;rider teams one reserve) and world test champs (6 rider teams, two reserves), the latter run over a two year period.

Until you have to pay the mortgage. If someone is making money from your efforts, then why should you be expected to do it for pittance, or effectively even at a loss?

Plenty of sportsmen have been forced into the ignominy of selling their trophies and medals because they made so little money from their chosen sport, even if speedway is even remembered by the time current speedway riders have grandchildren.

There seems a really easy eay to eradicate this problem, have the same system as current with 4 riders but in reality you have a squad of 5 or 6 day there on the day. You can make as many changes as you like as long as a rider does not have more than 5 rides as current (plus tactical sub). Then there will be no fake injuries as people can change when they want and it will be thecountry with the best squad/team that actually wins the thing. Makes filling a programme more difficult but best team on the day wins and adds more excitement and puts more of an onus on the team manager also. Most teams had some of their squard riders there anyway Howarth, Hans etc. Only problem is someone like Russia but if they can't get a team of 4 riders they probably don't deserve to win the world cup anyway.

The issue isn't being able to find a better format, but paying for it.
