customhouseregular
Suspend disbelief for a while and look ahead. It is the 2016 SWC Final at The National Stadium and GB are leading, with Denmark second. At the half-way stage Denmark are 6 points behind, play the Joker and Nicki P. gets 6 points. Come the end of the meeting and Denmark win by 1 point. Denmark have an unfair advantage because they are allowed to ride for 3 extra points. GB are at a disadvantage because they are winning. In "Normal Play" GB outscore Denmark, but Denmark are rewarded for being behind. You could not make it up. I say "It's time to kill the Joker".
June01
I was a bit concerned from the title this was going to be a recruitment drive for a vigilante response to a certain pantomime villain.
dabbsjoe
I wouldn't kill it entirely as it does help keep meeting interesting at times but I would amend the rules for it and instead of being able to use it when 6 points behind it should be 8 or 10 points behind so that a team using the joker can't pull all of the gap back to the leading team but some of it. Grachan
Don't forget the tac sub too. You can actually get up to 6 extra points in one race, not just 3. Edited June 18, 2015 by grachan
Trevor
Totally agree about 'kill the joker', makes the sports look a joke. I can accept Tac Subs and or choose the starting grid as the manager would have judgements to make, but to award double points just for being behind is ludicrous. Can you imagine in football awarding double goals if team is three goals down? Or in tennis, double points for a player two sets down? And we complain when people don't take Speedway seriously.

Could you imagine in speedway if your team score more points and you still lost like that can happened in Tennis ...Cricket have a review system that shows someone is out but then you can still be found not out ...you could go on for ever . Before you know it in Football there bring out a champions league without champions in it ...I just wish people would stop saying stupid things about speedway as all sports have silly rules and things that can be classed as unfair ...yet again another topic where people think the joker is wrong but somehow thing the tac sub is fair .. yet again both are as bad as each other . waiheke1
Especially when the TAC sub creates a potential 4 point swing vs 3 for the joker (obviously TAC joker can cause a 7 pt swing).

customhouseregular
Thank you Henry. I had forgotten that my "suspend disbelief" scenario had recently happened. It drives home the point though eh?. Kill the Joker.
Gr8scot
I'm definitely in the "kill the joker" corner. I would compromise allowing it if 10 points behind but definitely not
Bavarian
Get rid of it, the sooner teh better. Even if 20 points behind, it spoils wgat should be a fair sporting contest.

Happened to Australia 2009, beaten by Poland, 1 point. Again in 2012 when we should have won for Crumpie; beaten by the Joker. Remove the point barrier and let every team use it at any stage if behind, except last 4 heats.
