Hi,

I am after the heat details (just the rider finishing order not the heat times) from the following 4 Pairs meetings held in 1977. Can anyone help me please ?

The BL Pairs Semi-finals at Sheffield on 15th September

The BL Pairs Final at Ipswich on 29th September

The Inter-Nations Trophy Pairs meeting held at Bristol on the 4th November

The NL Pairs held at Belle Vue on the 4th June

Many thanks.

Ht 14 it should be Lawson not Dawson in 2nd.

Heat 23 is actually heat 24, heat 23 result is missing.

I think the meeting reserve is Carl Clarke.

Ht 14 I agree with you about Lawson and not Dawson but the star rinted Dawson and I was just copying it from there

ht 23 now added pc probs kept crashing now sorted.

The star does state Reserves as K.Clark & A. Hayes

It's definitely Carl (with a 'C') Clarke (with an 'e') and Andy Heyes (not Hayes). Just another Star printing error.

I think that you are right on this matter as I have been looking at old yearbooks and other info. I know that these riders were Belle Vue juniors at the time and would have made ideal reserves for the meeting.

I don't have a program for this meeting, but I will update my results.

Many thanks for your info I'm sure that the original poster 'compost' would be most grateful for your input.

Just noticed that a Andy Heves (not Heyes) rode 3 times for Belle Vue in 1977 so I think that all names are correct now.

Just dug out the 1978 Speedway Yearbook on page 70 there's a Andrew Peter (Andy) Heyes it looks like the end of season averages in the Star they still mis-spelt his name as Heves and not Heyes which is correct

It's definitely Andy Heyes. Came out the Belle Vue training schools and rode around the northern tracks for a few years without ever really making the grade. I think he had a brother who raced as well, Paul.

I may be wrong about this, but I believe Heyes was the rider who was shown looping at the gate during the old Grandstand opening titles.

I saw this a few weeks ago, but I'm coming back to it again as this was my first "proper" meeting, and was 38 years ago today.

I did remember that Sheffield won, and the injuries to Crump, Ashby and Mauger, and also that Scott Autrey had to miss a couple of heats due to making his bike race worthy again, and Michael Lee getting a faultless maximum.

I had completely forgotten about there only being 3 points between the top 4 pairs, but who knows what might have happened if Mike the Bike had had a partner the whole way through! (Oh, the irony that it was his partner that turned up late, bearing future seasons in mind... ) Justice then that KL ended up making the final at Ipswich.

I'd also completely forgotten about Carl Glover being one of the reserves, bit puzzling as he had left Sheffield by then, mind you, he was local obviously, and also could legitimately have represented King's Lynn!

For a semi final, what a stellar line up it was, even allowing that it didn't include Reg Wilson, PC, Bob Kilby and Terry Betts, presumably all injured (well, PC's would have been the leg injury)
