POSSIBLE explanation for gate 1 advantage at the Millennium ... as at Western Springs in 2013 the track was slightly higher on the outside than inside and moisture naturally gravitated to the inside providing more grip, which was critical on a track with short a such a short run from tapes to first corner.. Plus the fact that during races riders continually go over the outside gates rather than those on the inside, thus compacting them more.

Had three telephone calls this morning (none of which were primarily anything to with Cardiff) from Barry Briggs, Hans Nielsen and Kelvin Tatum and put that point to each of them and all more or less concurred.

I can understand your logic with what you say, and your conclusion would make perfect sense.

As a retired Project Manager, it was always my aim to eliminate problems. be them large or small. When something like this happens on a meeting of this scale, someone has to take the responsibility to fix it. Because all gates should be reasonably equal. it was paramount this problem be eradicated.

Yes, the track held up well and deserved all the praised it received. But surely the gate issue must have shown itself up when the pre-meeting practice took place. This is the part I can't understand. If what you say about the levels of the start area, then why not do the remedy work to bring all levels equal. If the out lanes are being compacted because of the riding line, then supply the start marshals with rakes. Issues need to be alleviated. Doing nothing is never acceptable......

Failing that, and thinking out of the box, then why not position the start line at a small angle ( Similar to Athletics), bring the inside say 5 or 6ft further back. It may not be ideal, but it would have been far better than doing nothing. At least it would have given everyone an even chance of getting to the semi's

Who knows, Cookie may have reached the semi's had the gates been fair. As if was, riders like Holder, Woffy, and Pedersen received a massive helping hand by having 2 rides from the inside gate. Probably had Cookie received the same privilege as them , he might have made it too......

Who was riding the "new" Gerhard engine on Saturday.

I think I spotted Lambert, not sure if Chris Harris was on one

With the score that Chris got I doubt Gerhard would want it made too public if he was using their engine.

These organisations state lessons will be learnt, having seen the results of gate 4 it was obvious they were not.

Back home this morning and that's it over for another year . We hype ourselves for this every year and nearly every year it never fails to disappoint .

Yes the whole day is brilliant , meeting friends old and new , the atmosphere of the occasion , the wonderful stadium and the way they present the whole thing and we had brilliant seats this year . But the racing was mediocre at best .

You were getting to the stage that you could fill "3" next to the rider in red , ok maybe not Harris , in your programme before the race even started .

And the poor bloke in yellow would have been better served nipping across the road to the Prince of Wales for a pint , than hauling his bike round for four laps in the hope of getting a point . Even the blessed Tai couldn't do nothing from gate 4 .

The relentless booing of poor Nikki obviously had something to do with what happened with Saint Greg the other week , but his exclusion was harsh as Kildemand went down very easily .

But it was really mundane fare , the only thing that kept me awake was having to get up every two minutes to allow two annoying Poles in and out of the row we were in .

But no doubt i'll be back next year as the whole day is brilliant , but here's hoping for a fairer track

Well said Paulco...but I think those brain dead morons booing Nicki just hate him anyway!!

It would not be as interesting without a villain to be booed.

Have spoken to Nicki off the track and actually he is a very pleasant individual, he just grows horns when on a bike.

A few observations of my own

1 we were outside ready to get in at 4pm-and everyone seemed to get through really quick-were there any security checks taking place at all? worrying if not !

2 something further needs to be done to ramp up the atmosphere during the meeting-more music would certainly help

3 it annoy`s me that the interviews for the world feed broadcast(Brando)are not shown on the big screens.

4 After every block of 4 heats, they could post the scorers list on the big screen-I know kevin Coombes did go through them(he did a really good job as always)

WOULD love to see, where at all possible, some kind of 'success ballast' like the British Touring Cars (and other forms) adopt. Whether it be for gates or championship positions.

If for gates..

Once each rider has completed one ride, if a certain gate is more favourable, then an added wieght (success ballast) is added to the bike to neturalise the advantage. It could be reviewed after each 4 races with the more favourable gate getting the weight. If the stats suggest two gates are the same then split the ballast, and only when it's 25% for each gate is no ballast added. It could be removed for the semis/final just to add some twist, perhaps.

For championship...

At the start of each new GP, the top eight riders are given added weight to their bikes. So whoever is number one would get the highest amount and it cascades down accordingly, getting lighter.

I know it's a little out there, but it'd be great to see how the riders and mechanics adapt to the weight, the tactics considered and how over each GP the top 8 have to balance out all the factores.

After a few years of trying I have finally got my other half into speedway and shall be attending Cardiff next year. I really enjoyed the meeting even though had to make do with watching it on sky, I'm sure the good weather made it a brill day out for everyone!

I was sat by where the riders came out for the parade................Pedersen was all smiles til his name was announced and as soon as the booing started his head and shoulders dropped and he looked really uncomfortable..................everyone else just looked straight ahead but Nicki was all smiles til then............

Another wee point about Saturday . I'm not Welsh , but I love their national anthem , but it's far better sung . When it's getting belted out it makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up , Saturday's musical version didn't have the same impact .

I'm not Welsh either so does nothing for me either way

Thought someone (Phil?) posted earlier that they did try to rectify the issue but succeeded only in making gate 1 better (or evened out 2-4 somewhat)

When it is not preferable to be off gate 1, and since when is gate 3 ever any good at most tracks? I think BSI will just be happy to have a rideable track and the starting gate working.
