iris123 Posted July 6, 2015 Report Share Posted July 6, 2015 POSSIBLE explanation for gate 1 advantage at the Millennium ... as at Western Springs in 2013 the track was slightly higher on the outside than inside and moisture naturally gravitated to the inside providing more grip, which was critical on a track with short a such a short run from tapes to first corner.. Plus the fact that during races riders continually go over the outside gates rather than those on the inside, thus compacting them more. Had three telephone calls this morning (none of which were primarily anything to with Cardiff) from Barry Briggs, Hans Nielsen and Kelvin Tatum and put that point to each of them and all more or less concurred. Isn't it worrying then that this happened in 2013,but nothing seemed to have been learnt(despite the continual statement that "lessons have been learnt")for such a basic thing even after a test meeting..........it is robbing the paying public to make the same mistakes over and over Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

A number of those had multiple passes, plus races with passing, repassing and passing again. So we can put that myth to bed.. its not passing that excites speedway fans! He did the best for himself but had it not been Pedersen maybe the exclusion would have been reversed Garritty was reckless. OveFundinFan Posted July 6, 2015 Report Share Posted July 6, 2015 (edited) Just got back from Cardiff this afternoon. Enjoyed the weather on Saturday, enjoyed our b&b, and ENJOYED the meeting. A worthy winner in NKI, but would have been good to see Tai win it, or at least be on the podium. Tai wont be too bothered, he has said before winning a GP is great, but its picking up the trophy at the end of the year that matters, and he increased his lead on Saturday night. Well done Tai. Pity the gates were so biased to gate 1 and 2, shame that. As for Craig Cook, he gets some stick on here, but remember he got 7 points including a win on Saturday. Thats the same points as Jason Doyle (who didnt win a race), 3 more then last years no2 - KK, two more then GP regular Chris Harris (who didnt win one), 4 more then a under 21 world champ - Janowski, 3 more then Troy Batch, and the same 7 point total as THJ (who failed to win one). Thats not bad in my eyes. And, of the 5 Brits (yes 5!) that rode on Saturday night he beat all but the one that is well ahead of any other Brit (Tai). AND he beat Greg, Holder and Janowski in his first race. I dont think that is a bad result, and lets face it - he doesnt have the experience at that level (too slow into the bends) nor probably spent the money on his engine as others for Saturday night. It was good to see Garrity and Lambert get a ride, but was a bit disgusted that a Brit took another Brit out of the race - the refs decision was right. Must be difficult for them to be riding in a GP, but then be thrown into heat 17 when everyone else has had 4 rides. Wouldn't swap the last train back to Swindon, one of the best laughs I've had in ages..full of some pished up speedway fans and partygoers having a good time, including a huge Polish fan with ultra- long beard collapsing like a pack of cards through drinking too much Anyone pay 38 quid for tickets from office and get 29 quid section tickets as they said they had run out? If we just went for the racing don't think we would bother, like having the craic with different fans, and watching The Magoos,great live combo from Worcester. They have to get the Gate bias sorted out, only Krackerjack came last from there, and would have put money on Woffy-Holder to win final. Brilliant ride from Iversen(and Killer). No mention of GP at all in the Mail, plenty of F1 coverage, although did have 140000 at Silverstone as opposed to 40000 in the motor-cycle GP at Cardiff. Again disappointed with the fanzone being where it is now,well to cramped,just nip through there now and get a programme.Sad to see no entertainment neither in the stadium.But didn't let that put me off just had a couple more beers instead Although gate 1 had a huge advantage I still enjoyed the racing.Although when I got home and watched the re-run the racing was actually a lot closer than it seemed in the stadium. At the end NKI was a deserved winner and proved if you were set up right you didn't need to be off gate 1.Would liked to have seen Tai win,but when it was obvious he wasn't going to get anywhere I had to cheer on the Lynn man . If it was just about the meeting, I simply wouldn't go! It's the best laugh from Friday to Sunday, love it Some people suggest moving it to Wembley too ....
