oldace
I'm sure there'll be a scientifically designed and patented 'pitch protection system' rolled out - also known as few bits of plywood covered with a tarpaulin... But how is the plywood stored, I hope they use a scientific pyramid shape rather than just dump it in a pile
SCB
Sure, but that's a one-off, and there hasn't been a lot else other than rugby and speedway this year. The Welsh government basically has to subsidise the Millennium to keep it afloat. As for protecting the pitch, I fail to see how tonnes of shale dumped on it for several days is going to be good for it, regardless of whether they put down tarpaulins or a bit of plywood. The pitch is not down ATM, at least it didn't look like it from the photos I saw from the One Direction concert there last weekend. What probably happens now is the speedway, concerts and any other non-pitch activities are held together while the pitch is out, then it'll be put back in for for a spell where only pitch requiring events will happen. For whatever reason, be it they live bikes, they find speedway exciting, speedway fans drink more beer or they just need any money they can get, I imagine the stadium (and by extension the city) loves the speedway. What you will find is most people in Cardiff love it when theres a big event on, whatever it is. It makes the city centre buzz. Having been to many events there and just been in the centre when events are taking place people it's always good fun. Very few people complain, regardless of the event. And I say that as someone who used to live within the shadows of the stadium (certainly close enough that after the GP I managed to walk home, get change, walk back into town as people will still queuing for the park and ride buses!) Grand Central
It is so unlike you, SCB, to be off course like this. After all the problems Rugby have experienced in the past the pitch is now permanent. And they have spent millions on it. They must put it an artificial floor of some sort over and above it to accommodate other events. This is the first GP being done like this. SCB
A closer look at some photos and it does in fact look like they now have concrete slabs put down. Can't imagine that dos the pitch much good!
Humphrey Appleby
What you will find is most people in Cardiff love it when theres a big event on, whatever it is. It makes the city centre buzz. Well that's good, because they're all paying for it.
SCB
Well that's good, because they're all paying for it. Yes, but we pay for all sorts of crap anyway. What town/city doesn't have the local council paying for pointless statues/works of art or vanity projects? I was happy to pay for the Millennium Stadium events and no doubt a lot of the event that happen down in the Bay - they're things that the people can be proud of and make the most of. Unlike new council offices!
PHILIPRISING
FROM BSI ... The Adrian Flux British FIM Speedway Grand Prix will take place at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff, on July 4. Working with our partners at the Millennium Stadium, BSI Speedway has gained access to the stadium earlier (15 June) than previous years, and, as a direct result, the track building process has commenced. In order to maximise this opportunity, BSI Speedway, will put on a practise event that will be open to selected British (non SGP) riders on Tuesday June 23. This will give BSI Speedway and the Millennium Stadium the opportunity, not previously available, to run through many elements of the event. This will not be open to the public. Full practice for the event will take place, as normal, on Friday July 3 which will be open to ticketholders. CANNOT be too many worries about the pitch if they are happy to have a speedway track down for almost three weeks.

No argument it makes an awful lot of sense with so much riding on success..
PHILIPRISING
NOT always possible to have a stadium like the Millennium for this amount of time but it underlines the co-operation provided by those in Cardiff. John Leslie
Usually touts try to make money!! They do. They buy them from mugs with spare tickets about about 1/3 of the face value and then sell them on to people like SCB at half the face value.
