Referees

Recommended Posts

Dont know but I think he (and his no nonsense refereeing) is sadly missed, always the man in charge at the meeting and took cr*p from no one no matter how big a star the rider or team manager was. Seen him get through many a meeting in record time with the 2 minute warning for the next race coming on as the last riders left the track.

Come back Frank British speedway needs you.

Speedway needs him back like a hole in the head like the footy referees Poll (ect they want to be the stars of the show.He was awful no understanding and a ego bigger than Simon Cowell.!! Edited by sidney

Ballyregan bob was the best but for sheer excitement Scurlouge champ was unreal and its style of running getting tailed off then thundering home was something else.

  • 2 weeks later...

Frank was forced into retirement as a referee by a sudden serious medical condition, something akin to RSI I believe but more severe.

Super guy, was always glad to see him and I bet nthe Ben Fund misses him too

Lets not forget that in the event of a serious accident related to a H & S failure it is the ref that carries the can all the way to court and beyond

These current crop of referee’s especially Barbara 'panic' Horley are quite frankly a disgrace. The vast majority I recon bring speedway into disrepute. But while you have the numpty’s at the SCB in charge what else do you expect!

They could do a competition for the supporters as they enter the stadium and draw a name out on the parade and the winning name will be that nights referee. Im sure that there must be many young schoolkids competent of pushing a few buttons, annoying the riders and upsetting the crowd during the match. Lets face it the current referees have been doing this for years.

 Im only kidding folks, before everyone starts going loopy and posting replys.

everyime its one of the women , controversy .. the worst of all the women, and from personal experience Vardy by a long shot ,

Vardy is the worst ref I have seen in well over 40 years od Speedway. There was an incident at Weymouth where a rider had fallen right by the start line and the commentator ended up switching the red light on after he pointed this out and she still couldn't see it, very lucky somebody wasn't seriously hurt.

One night at Stoke she sent the scrutineer around to measure the eco mats to the millimetre, fined a rider for having the wrong shade of yellow helmet cover but completely missed one rider punch another on bend 3 following a crash (probably a good thing as the riders were fine 2 minutes later and had she got involved it would no doubt have been like WW3!!)

I think every single meeting I have ever seen her referee, and that's quite a few, she has messed up. The one good thing she does is make Ms Horley seem quite good in comparison!

Thank you Barbara Horley. I thought that referees had to at least be able to count to 10 without losing track half way to the end. How can Adam Kirkby be prevented from riding in heat 14 of the Eastbourne v Birmingham meeting for having riden in 7 races already when he'd only been out in 5? I despair.

Frank Ebdon may have had his faults, but at least he knew how to keep a meeting moving.

I'm not sure who I would nominate as the worst. In recent times Dave Robinson, Tony Steele, Jim Lawrence and Barbara Horley have often left me far from impressed but there are a few other candidates as well.

Probably because he had exceeded the 2 minute time allowance on two separate occasions and had therefore committed 2 Starting Offences ?

Any chance that the referee might on this occasion be right, and you, mdmc82 and TWK might not know the facts and apologise, or at least eat humble pie........ .?

What heats had he commited the offenses in? Live updates doesn't mention them.

IF you are right (see SCB in previous Post No: 39).

I will start scoffing humble pie by the spoonful. If not - then I didn't Post anything wrong. :t:;):P
