Swc Race-off

The Poles have also held a couple of tests against select sides this year. They take it seriously as a team and thus reap the benefits.

Organise a series, try and find a sponsor (God forbid), promote it (God forbid) and charge a reasonable price to get in.

they won't look for a sponsor they expect a sponsor to come to them and throw money at them

they won't promote it as they don't even promote what they already have

will charge about £25 a ticket to make up for no sponsor and small crowd size as not promoted

Tai has made his thoughts know, on how he feels the poor state that British speedway is now in. We are nowhere near a top nation in the sport, we could at the worst not even be a second best. The main reason being, that young riders have been very badly neglected, for well over 10 years. The promoters would rather bring in a you Aussie or Pole than looking after our lads. There are not even a hand full that are riding in a main team berth in the EL. Without that then they will not be looked upon by the main European clubs to be given a chance to ride over there.

With the only races that they get the chance to compete against the top riders on overseas tracks being the World Cup. So other than young Lambert, who did a brilliant job, for his first outing at this level of competition, what did the others get, nothing, they never got the chance to turn a wheel. The GB management stuck with, 2 riders, that have been riding for the squad, for far to long without being on a level with the other riders.

Rosco should have just took the bull by the horns, instead of going with Bomber and King, he should have given 2 youngsters a go. To be honest they would have done no worse. But it is now water under the bridge.

I hope they really sit up and take notice of Tai, not just cough and splutter and just carry on the way things are now. We have got to get at least 3 or 4 riders to be able to take a team ride next year. Also they have to work hard with all the others, so they have a pool of riders, that they can call on, not just 4, they need to bring 10 or more up to international level. The only way they can do this is to get them to compete in meeting in Europe. For all the rides they do over here it is nothing of any interest, when they come to ride on tracks abroad.

As for banning the Russians who could see anyway that the only place they where going to be was last, with the riders not prepared to waste thier money getting to Denmark, who can really blame them for not going.

I think it was more a matter of 'running out of time' then getting a rental van sorted. He broke down in Vilnius and then got towed (?) to Daugavpils (his Mercedes dealer I guess, his van is on LV plates).

Daugavpils to Vojens is a 17 hour journey...

He was indeed towed from Vilnius to Dauavpils (2.5 hour journey) due to a broken fuel pump.

You do write some strange things on occasions-Russia would have come last with the 2 Laguta`s riding-you are joking-the USA would have been miles behind.

Yesterday you wrote that Team GB had no chance of beating the poles yesterday-well in my eyes it was pretty close for a long way.

Of course they do!

What about table tennis when you are behind you are able to bring in a Thai prostitute?

Or was that just something I saw on the Internet?

Anyway speedway is what it is and Poland have won by Jokers in the past so can hardly moan.

Loads of sports have rules to give the opposition an advantage, most ball games have sending offs, some have sin bins and restricted use of players. Basketball you have free shots, snooker you have free balls and misses. Speedway has a one ride joker rule allowing 1 team so many points down to take 1 ride for a double point ride.

Whats ths problem? Why do so many find this rule difficult!!?

In your opinion ...most on this topic think otherwise .

Cant say i thought it was harsh. It was spot on and the right decision, pure and simple.

Surely getting excluded from a race is the speedway comparison to those other sports-A snooker player doesn`t get double points for a break if he is 50 points behind in a frame !!!!

fair point, but speedway isn't football is it! its speedway, its how it is, you get 3 points for winning a race, you get 1 goal if its 1 yard or a 51 yard shot! in snooker you get 1 for a red and 7 for a black!! its not rocket science, its a last chance saloon ride, its exciting, why is it such a problem?? hahahaha

All of which are due to fouls/transgressions etc by the opposition, whereas the joker is purely and simply a reward for not being very good. Aptly named and has no place in a professional sport.

I think Tai is spot on with his assessment. You only have to look at Poland. Their world cup team is comprised of young riders and they've done brilliantly. Partly due to natural talent, but also because they're given more support to be able to end up where they are. I thought Lambert was great throughout the competition, but where are all the other young British riders?
