Tough meeting that... Well done The Scorps, fine win but at what cost?. Hope Douglas and Davies ain't too badly hurt after their nasty incidents and enforced withdrawals... Same to Christian Henry, looked a soft fall but sometimes they tend to be the worst, grade 2 concussion for him I believe.

Good effort from Newcastle's three remaining top five, that said despite their poor scores, the reserves were on the pace and deserve much credit for having to take up their full allocation of seven rides.

For Scunny. Great show from the two Bens... Firstly, Ben Wilson, gonna be great asset at reserve, particularly at home. Secondly, Ben Barker, wow, take a bow Ben... that was probably the best 'Guest' show I've seen for a long-long time. Great team player, bust his gut for the cause...110% effort. Thanks Ben.

Hmmm.... More falls & injuries at Scunthorpe. It was the same at the Rye House meeting. Are they still piling up the dirt deep on the outside and leaving the inside slick?

Lots of falls. I'm assuming the track was terrible?

Not really.. was there to be ridden, it was one for the biggest balls. Dare to ride wide on turn four and the rewards were there to see. Most of the falls were down to first bend tangles, riders all chasing different lines. Was a difficult night for the riders, the sun being particularly bad at times...not that that was the cause of any falls, least I don't think so.

The falls were nothing to do with the track tonight. Henry managed to spin out on his own at the entrance to the third bend in just the third heat - looked innocuous, but obviously not, as it turns out.

The Scunthorpe falls were down to collisions.

I hope all the riders are on the mend.

Firstly hope Ryan and Alex are ok; and Christian Henry Alex's looked the worst as Kerr just straightened in front of him and he had nowhere to go.Track looked real inviting for those wanting to get out in the dirt Trouble is most of our lot fancy the same bit of track!. Circa Ryan and Wilko and Ryan on his backside in Ht9 Rob made a point of that.

Nike also going for the same bit of track Ht12 piles into Ryan. Am thinking for gods sake hes just arrived back from a bad injury! Be careful but thats speedway and we all wanna be going for it. Including Flyin Ryan.

But Ben Barker was different class what a pass he made on Stevie Worrall going into turn two lap two! Ht10. Jeez he was literally sat on his shoulder as he sqeeeeeeezed it round. Chased him down like you would not believe. Then when he paired up with Benjamin Wilson in Ht13 shadowing him round on the outside to thwart Lindgren and his thumbs up to Ben W as he coaxed him to the finish.

Ben Barker was the difference being able to go out and dictate races. Take out his points and go R/R and we dont go up to Rough with a 16pt advantage in the bag. Brilliant Ben a honoury Scorpion. Where we can and Rob hinted at this; if Ben wants to do it and can we need to book him as guest. Hes heading to Berwick Saturdays just call in Scunny Friday Ben on the way.

Ben Wilson showed what we signed him for 12+2 with that great Ben-Ben 5-1 over Lindgren Ht13. Ben is like Lewis Blackbird/Gaz Irving a rider at reserve who can come in be effective in all his races.

Full credit to the Diamonds though stretched to the limit with Henry down and the reserves worked solid all night. Top three Diamonds all sparkled and it was the two late 5-1s that opened the tie up a bit.

All up to Rough Park then and everything to race for. Thoroughly enjoyed the meeting despite the enforced Sunny Scunny sun break! But we gotta be safe and we all understand this.

That many incidents at Brough and there would be a lot of pointing fingers at the track etc etc

Which was the point of my comment. I am heartily sick of the Rough Park jibes every time a rider with more guts than sense happens to fall off at Newcastle.

Yes Brough Park is over recent years a track that visiting riders can have a go at riding. Visiting teams often win races and we don't have any more falls than anywhere else. Every week I find myself saying the track looks great for racing but sometimes the weather ruins the track staffs hard work and we can have a weather problematic first few heats same as anywhere else.

At Scunthorpe Newcastle started as a 6 man team and Christian Henry's fall in his first ride reduced us to a 5 man team. Our reserves had to take 7 rides apiece and neither of them managed many points. The match was lost in heat 3 when Christian went down. If we had started with 7 men we may have got closer but if you are faced with 7 rides each for your reserves you really need one of them to get into double figures not just 3 apiece.

ben barker to guest for us again tomorrow, and whenever he can, except next friday when he rides for berwick, no ryan or alex so its r/r and another quest,..... i must say the crowd was very very poor, hoping its just because its was a cup match or maybe because we rode against newcastle before.. a la sheffield last year,im hoping its not because of the results,(which i fear it is,, im thinking that "fans" stayed away and monitored the scores on updates etc and wil lthink "yep we won, ill go back on friday".

to me and others i stand with the result dosent matter as long as we try, and the racing is top notch, which most on here have said it is every week,

the die hard fans go each week but week by week they disappear and when that happens we end up with what we had on friday, which is unsustaintable for the club, and they are ruining it for the ones who go to be entertained and dont want to lose it again,im quessing the ones who stay away dont realise the costs in runing a club or dont care if it closes.

Man down ! Ryans cracked a vertebrae for gods sake ! Anyone heard how Alex is ? We are right out a luck you know. How longs this going to put Ryan out? Summats wrong with speedway with all these injuries. Back in the day you could welly it round Halifax or Exeter and play russian roulette with a steel fence, and still go through a season wit same 1-7 ! Not to mention going headlong in t'Romford Brooklands concrete homestraight wall and even over top into crowd and still get away with it !.

There is something fundamentally wrong with speedway today bikes? tracks? air fences ? riders themselves ? Take your pick.

Get well soon Ryan & Alex am right brassed off I tell you.

Too right there is. Injuries are coming thick and fast in Speedway these days.

There simply has to be a reason for it - especially as we now have Air Fences which certainly help avoid a lot of injuries. More Riders than ever are getting hurt. WHY?

The Tracks haven't changed that much in Eighty odd year - but the bikes?.....................................................

Man Down ! just watched Jarek Hampel go a purler in Gniezno sent full steam into the air fence ! no chance of bailing off - broken leg according to Poles team boss Cieslak !. Lindback was hellish lucky to get away with pulling a locker and being chucked over the bars and then the Russian nigh on t-bones Jonsson and piles into the fence. Its carnage out there every god damn time !

Will the last man standing please turn out the lights !

I wonder if riders chasing the dirt are partially to blame? Back in the day, all tracks would have teams of rakers pulling the shale back every race, riders always had a little grip to aim for on the inside. Rakers do seem to have disappeared from the sport..certainly at Scunny. Any track out there still employ rakers? Or have tractors totally replaced them?

I have watched a lot of meetings at Scunny and I would say generally the best racing occurs from about heat 3 to about heat 12, towards the end of the meeting the dirt line does get a bit wide IMO. I also think at the end of meetings there are a higher proportion of first bend crashes as riders race to get to the dirt line. Dragging the dirt back a little might mean a longer a grading break but it could improve the racing and safety. I do think Scunny is the best race track in the country and a relatively safe one at that but there is always room for improvement.

I hope Rob isn't tearing his hair out with the way this season is going, seems like everything is going wrong.
