Fantastic that you complete these facts and figures.

Also suggests that there are too many teams with too few riders with several riders appearing for at least three or more teams and one particular rider topping the averages for a number of teams.

I see we also have some riders appearing regularly in both junior leagues and the Nationsl league!

Too many fixtures means these riders can't possibly can't possibly do all the matches, especially as they don't get paid.

Throw in a few injuries and its no wonder the league doesn't get all its fixtures completed.

Perhaps the future is the mix of 125cc bikes and 500,s as there are a lot more young lads, of a good standard, riding the smaller capacity bikes and a number of tracks now providing the opportunity for these lads to race. They even have them at Poole!

These is bourne out by the entry lists in the amateur meetings where the smaller bikes way out number the 500,s.

Food for thought?

There are 53 riders in the list above. While the top 4 or 5 riders should probably not be in the MDL, there should still be plenty of riders for the ten teams? It is a fact that some riders are getting too many rides, and some not enough.

The riders that are getting the extra rides are the ones who want them and are prepared to travel. There are several MDL riders who are only prepared to ride their home track / weekend tracks against others who will travel the country just to be on the bike.

Yes numbers are slightly down on last year but that is due to the success of the league and riders moving up into the NL and therefore long may it continue.....

Some interesting points there.

But how do you explain the matches where teams only had three riders and one match where there was only two?

Rider Replacement in a Junior match!...really?

If some riders will only appear in their home matches, why are they getting selected?

I know one rider who receives calls from FIVE different team managers in the MDL asking him to ride for them and this is a regular occurance.

Does this not prove there are not enough riders willing to put the time and effort in at this level?

I judge the success of a league on it completing all its proposed fixtures and producing riders good enough to move on to the next level.

It's a shame that once riders reach a level, like the National league, that they then have to drop back into the MDL and NJL just to get regular rides.

Surely this can't be right?

Oh for heaven's sake. The purpose of the MDL is to give riders just starting out competitive practice. Of course sometimes riders will be unable to turn up at short notice sometimes necessitating the use of rider replacement.

And last year Layne Cuppit rode in virtually every match for virtually every team - GOOD FOR HIM - I'm sure the practice didn't do him any harm.

Also, I suppose, it is getting yourself known. I have been helping a new rider on this list who says he will ride for any team, and has impressed any team manager who has seen him. But he still needs more rides ...
