Christopher Wiley
Fixture tonight Arena Essex and Belle Vue, I notice Belle Vue have 4 guest riders. This is a farce , you might just as well have the fixture as a individual meeting. Speedway is shooting itself in the foot again.2 riders riding for their premier leauge clubs and 2 on international duty, who arranged the fixtures. Why not amalmagate the two leauges, the standards are very similiar. Needs more thought ,this situation has arisen in the past and has never been resolved. When can you arrange the fixtures though? There's always some sort of international meeting, and it's pretty impossible to avoid all the clashes. Yet people on here think British league riders should be riding every international event going, including mickey mouse pairs competitions. It's unfortunately impossible to reconcile all these things, and the question needs to be asked what's more important in the long run. From a quick skim through the teams, Coventry, Leicester and Poole all had no riders in the U21s qualifiers, so wouldn't they have been better opponents for Lakeside, rather than Belle Vue who had two riders competing? Then taking into account the PL fixtures on the same night, both Coventry's draft riders and double-uppers were free, so wouldn't Coventry have made the best opponent for Lakeside? Obviously there are always going to be clashes, but arranging a fixture where four riders in the same team all have higher priority arrangements in bonkers.

That's with hindsight though. You don't necessarily know team make-ups before the fixtures have to be drafted.

SCB
It confuses me why clubs won't ride against a GP when 1 rider might be missing but will ride agaiabt GP and U21 qualifiers when 4 or 5 riders are often missing. Ride GP weeks, it's the best way of knowing in advance who will be missing! And as practice is not compulsory, any commited rider (see Chris Harris) will ride for his team anyway! The bigger farce is EL/PL clashes! Grajzonek in this case is unfortunate as he was a mid season signing.
Christopher Wiley
I think this question of guest riders goes back to the origins of speedway and the promoters.Originally in the 30s it was promoted as a show.Individual meetings were more commonplace.I have never heard anyone say about speedway about how the team meetings were run. Many second string and reserve riders in my opinion never really " raced" . If they gated in front that was it,they would be passed sometimes but in reallity just rode the bike in their own way, nothing against that.Things have changed the racing is more competitive it is now longer just a show.whatever the style of racing I think if its a team meeting it needs to contain two teams not a collection of riders from different clubs otherwise its a farce
