Coventry V Poole 1/6/15

Recommended Posts

If he has indeed lost thousands which suspect he has then I don't blame him. Who would want to throw money away at something you have no control over. Crowds have been decent enough this season but last week meeting will now likely mean we will be running at a big loss for the season. That cannot be right or good for the sport.

If he had no control over the meeting then maybe he should of promoted it better to get more people to turn up in the bad weather, I.E cheaper entrance fee.

I think that applies to any club if they have a call off. Thing is Coventry will still get the Sky money, under normal circumtances of a call off then, he would have been on a massive loss. But like Ayra says, he will recoupe that should you make the play off's.

If it was cheaper prices it wouldve been more of a financial disater. Do you really think many more would have attended in that weather? Especially to recoup the loss per entrance fee? Poole usually draws good crowds but it had no chance with the forecast as it was. I'd get dropping prices for the likes of Lakeside that makes sense. Why pay for something when it was almost certain to be called off at heat 10.

£10,000 isn't that much money. He will easily recoup his losses with Coventry in the play offs this year.

Who said it was 10,000, Horton was quoted as saying as tens of thousands. Be interesting to see what he says tonight regarding it all. Think its more of a threat to the BSPA than anything else though, they will be in a tough situation with only 7 EL clubs. The only issue I have with it is we are looking for a new stadium the whole situation probably doesnt help regarding investors and planning etc.

Disagree there, cheaper prices would have encouraged more to go as if it was a tenner then that is still reasonable value even if it only goes to heat 10. If he knew it would only last until heat 10 and was going to lose money why didn't he cancel it, it had been forecast for the weather to be bad for ages.

Exactly, maybe he should grow a pair instead of moaning, if he had paid full price to get in as I did then he would have something to whinge about.

He wasnt allowed too! The forecast was terrible on the day, people would decided very early on not to go. Yes you'd get a slightly bigger crowd but not to the extend of covering the 8 quid reduction per admission.

Would I have gone if I wasn't working? Maybe, but im one who usually goes regardless and there isn't many like us anymore. If they did something like Swindon did with Sky tickets then maybe people would've gone anyway as they've already paid. Even so it didn't show the sport in a great light did it and those newbies wouldn't have returned. The whole thing was a shambles any way you look at it. Edited by woz01

I don't think I would be very pleased in Horton's position.

No club, well perhaps Poole if they had one rider missing, is going to cancel a meeting more than 48 hours beforehand. After that time it was in the hands of Go Speed and Sky and Horton had no say. That might just be acceptable if he didn't bear any financial risk but he did. We saw the conditions at Brandon and matches at Wolverhampton and Bell Vue had already been called off. The match should not have started with the forecast of heavy rain and strong winds.

Who can blame him for feeling aggrieved if the result of decisions made by others results in a substantial financial loss to him and a farce which reflects badly on Coventry speedway.

I just hope for the fans that he reflects on his comments when things are calmer and feels able to continue at EL level.

In gale force winds and heavy rain, I think even if it had been £5 most would have stayed home rather than go to what looked most likely to be a rain off and not be a full meeting.

It is ridiculous to moan about it after the event, Sky can't make you run a meeting if it is unsafe to race, he could have made the track unraceable if he was that worried, dug a hole somewhere, it has been done before or got the hosepipe out.

So you are advocating underhand tricks!

There is a reason I'm not surprised.

Good unbiased post.

Terrible that a team are made to race a meeting and then lose so much money which has a huge impact on the club

Have to say personally I would have preferred to pay the full price rather than have to stump up the £10k loss but maybe thats just me :D

Try telling Kylamkorpi that, he clearly thought it unsafe, didn't ride and got fined!

Totally unfair!!!!

Just to put the correct story here joonas was told by the official, let's get heat 10 done we will then call a halt, joonas replied if it's unsafe to carry on in heat 11 it's unsafe for me to ride in heat 10

"£10,000 isn't that much money"..............really?

And irrespective of whether it was £10K or possibly more, just in case you didn't realise, business is about making a profit - not recouping bloody losses and breaking even!

Seriously, what planet do you live on?
