@kylmakorpi: I got a fine from refusing to ride in heat 10 as I thought it was unsafe and the meeting got called off due to unsafe track after heat 10???

@Chris_Holder23: @kylmakorpi should never of started the meeting.. Everyone knew how rubbish the forecast was.. It was raining in ht1! Was only a matter of time

The officials are the only people who can call a match off. AKA pro football, the referee is the only person who can call off the match. Sky do not have the authority to call off a match although in the interest of the sport it would be good if televised fixtures could go ahead but as we have seen over the years sometimes meetings are called off before the scheduled start and also during teh meting itself. We speedway loving folk should treat Sky as our friends and not some dark murky bogeyman hellbent on ruining our sport.

the meeting official decides - not the ref

that same meeting official has direct contact to the sky director for the programme .....sounds fishy to me

Looking at the crowd last night it looked like it was just ST holders, and the way the supporters are treated I doubt any future sky matches will attract many more.

Can anyone provide heat times for heat 1 to heat 10 as I should think that will say a lot.

Heat 1: 62.2

Heat2: 65.1

Heat3: 62.8

Heat 4: 63.4

Heat 5: 65.0

Heat 6: 63.4

Heat 7: 65.0

Heat 8: 67.1!!!

I left after that

When you think that times the week before were 59.4 and similar, it shows how there was no racing just riders trying to stay on for 4 laps without getting injured.

Horton should have been allowed to call this meeting off and would have if it hadn't been on sky. Sky lose nothing whilst he loses lots of money and chance of points in a good meeting.

How comes he never called the Lakeside match off the other week ...that was not on sky .

The rain was just a drizzle and then very light against Lakeside so wasn't any need early on. The rain got heavier later on but still the times were okay and nobody was crashing.

Last night was worst I have seen. Gale force winds and torrential rain. Never seen a meeting in EL, PL or SGP raced in those kind of weather conditions before.

Horton is inviting last nights sponsors back, I wonder if he will invite the fans back who were also there too ?

He wanted meeting off so it was out of his hands. Luckily we are not listed as being on sky again so won't be able to dictate. I can't see any reason for fans to stay away. Coventry bees have been brilliant and had some great meetings.

I was saying all those who went last night should have a free return ticket

Watched the meeting, and have listened to the Mick Horton podcast.

Does anybody know at what point Mr Horton became disillusioned with speedway?

Was it before last night? Presumably not, his team are doing very well in the league this year, with a high degree of success both home and away.

If he was disillusioned before last night, why haven't heard before now? And exactly what is it that he is disillusioned about? He is in a position of some influence isn't he, so his concerns could be shared with others and a way forward sought?

So perhaps it was only last night, around heat 8 when Coventry conceded a 5-0, slipped 7 points behind and the writing became clearer on the wall?

You can do what you want with stats!

Heat 8 was a 5-0 so they weren't going to push

Heat 9 was 66.6 (won by a reserve; refer to Heat 2) and Heat 10 was 66.1 (two riders no opposition)

Newman and Robson didn't seen to have many problems in Heat 9. The only person who has a problem with the track was Garrity.

In contrast Stake, who would be considered the weakest of all riders on show was unbeaten by a Coventry rider!

The arguments at the end of Heat 8 appeared to be delaying tactics to try and let the track deteriorate further.

It reminds me of the test match in Pakistan that England won in the dark as the Umpires wouldn't let Pakistan go off for bad light because they had slowed the game down with that in mind!

The rain early on was light drizzle just like the Lakeside match it was hardly torrential .....how many riders fell last night in the first 6 heats ?...read Silver Bee's comments about what he thought about the track against Lakeside .....the bottom line is when it suits him Horton will start a meeting and run a meeting to heat 10 if it suits him even if the track is bad or the forcast is poor .

I was there and I promise you it wasn't light drizzle. It was coming down heavy and rain was making it worse.

Just like the rain was making the track worst v Lakeside ....so as I said no difference between this and that match ...Two matches that was ok to start but never should have never have got to heat 10 ....it's just go's to show a certain type of fan will only moan when the result is not in there favour .

Seems that everyone agrees that, if this match had not been televised, it would have been called off early doors like the ones at Wolverhampton & Manchester. Last night's saga can only harm speedway and the credibility of Sky Sports. Speedway is not the only televised sport that can be badly affected by the weather e.g. cricket, tennis & golf. The television companies involved seem to cope so why can't speedway & Sky? It seems to me that the BSPA & Sky have got to sit down and devise a strategy for dealing with rained off meetings. This could involve showing a previously televised meeting (Sky must have quite a library of interesting meetings) or something similar. It would probably result in a reduced fee from Sky but that would be a small price to pay if the BSPA & Sky do not want to damage their reputations any more or that of the sport itself and possibly prevent serious injury to a rider.

I was there too and it wasn't really heavy until later in the meeting, in fact it did stop a couple of times briefly.

Cheers ....glad to see someone can be honest .
