TonyE
The only people responsible for last night are those that run speedway in UK. If Sky have an undue influence it is because promoters have agreed to it as part of the contract.
stevebrum
As i am one of the idiots who decided to go last night and regretted it, my view is that the meeting shouldn't have started and Coventry should have made a early decision to tell everyone including sky that the track was unfit  The problem with that however is that the track proved from the off it was perfectly raceable. Everyone knew the weather was turning eventually but you can't say the track should be deemed unfit when it was fine from the off.  Don't agree with that at all ....the track was fine at the start and fit for racing and if had not rained the heats 15 would have been run ...Speedway can't win sometimes. you get people moaning when matches are called off due to weather forcasts and people who moan when matches are called off when it rains during a meeting .        Absolutely spot on. Speedway fans demand perfect tracks, perfect weather and every meeting to be a classic. Some really need to wake up to the real world.  Didn't see havelock moaning when King, Harris and Kylmakorpi were banging in wins. When did the track actually become 'dangerous'? As has been proven time and time again, it's only dangerous when the losing manager wants a call off or the winning manager wants to get a result. The 'rider safety ' issue is a pile of rubbish. Mike.Butler
I know I attended well aware of the weather forecast but I was passing anyway. However, am I going to be reimbursed for only seeing 9 actual races involving both teams?
mdmc82
It was strange how Pearson was silent about running 10 heats last night,he usually never stops repeating it in normal wet meetings!!! Think he knew something!! The track was dangerous from the start. Whilst he was telling everybody how great the track was at 6.30, he didn't tell them about the torrential rain at 7.10 onwards and the fact some riders were still not happy when they were trying to make the track rideable still at 7.25. Coventry wanted it called off before heat 6 but we're not listened to.
TheScotsman
Why not just have a meeting format then of just 10 heats? costs in wages will be less, they can charge the fans less and the fans will not have to stand around for so long. The BSPA and Sky have engineered the whole situation and i for one do not feel sorry for them if they loose money over it.  I do feel sorry for the fans though, but its a clear message to all though, if there is any doubt about rain, do not attend!  I think you've found the silver bullet.  Still charge £18 or whatever.  Give us a 10 heat match. Interval after heat 5.  Then charge the wobblers to use the track till closing time.  - promoters get more income - promoters pay out less in points money - punters get to see a match plus the wobbler entertainment - riders in team have fewer rides and so lower costs - riders in teams can get off sooner to catch their flights or drive to their next meeting - wobblers get to practice on all sorts of tracks   This is the saviour for UK speedway. BWitcher
Not total nonsense! Look at the sparse attendance last night, compared with the same fixture a few weeks ago, not televised So many chose to stay in front of the TV last night - yes, the weather played its part, but that's the point - more would have taken a chance and attended in the terrible weather had it not been on TV Â Yes, total nonsense. Â What IS total nonsense is clubs doing NOTHING to take advantage of tv coverage. Â Look at the previous 2 sky meetings to see the difference.
AJK86
I think main problem last night is officials not standing up to sky sports speedway team and just saying sorry this is not Speedway and should not continue.I thought up to heat 6 things were going ok but then the track was just getting worse and racing was non existent from then on ! Hardly any fans were there for obvious reasons so why not just call it off and come back on another day for a dry meeting and bigger crowd. All last night did was make speedway look a complete shambles yet again and anybody new tuning in would have just switched off and never give it another go or visit local track.Poor advert for the sport and another case of no common sense or promoters wanting to work together in good of the sport.Poole to be fair did a good job last night and of course they wanted to carry on and claim the win after heat 10 and if other way round Coventry would have done same but i hope in future promoters from both sides just say this isn't what speedway is about lets come back another day and put on the product fans are paying to see.
DC2
Â I like Jason, he always gives 100%, but he was a fool on track tonight and his little outburst during the utterly embarrassing melee involving Havelock and and the SCB official made him look like a complete twunt. Â He can be brilliant though and has won us meetings in the past. He needs to take a leaf out of Hans book. Stay professional and say nothing! Â Â Hans says nothing? That must be one boring book!!! orion
I new it was only going to be ten heats How did you know ?
weatherwatcher
Not only was the track a problem, but it also seemed it was causing problems with the bikes. With the rain being driven by the wind. I have no doubt that the problems with Danny Kings bike was ingress of rain into the points. Why they have points still and not electric ignition these days beats me. As for point settings this can be easily achived, with electronic advance retard, rather than taking the cover off on rainy nights like last night, to end up with water on the points. This is the 21st centuary I think, so we should be using modern technoligy. Instead using an out dated point set up that wnt out, with the demise of the British motor cycle industry. I remember the days sat by my old 650cc A.J.S and B.S.A getting the point set up just right, without all the cough's splutters and bangs. mdmc82
How can a rider get fined for not riding in a race due to the fact that he thinks it's dangerous only for the meeting to be cancelled before the next race due to dangerous conditions? That's a good point. The track got worse each race and they were right to not come out in heat 10 as Holder & Watt proved when they almost crashed when just two of them going through the motions. tsc1
So do you think the was dangerous from the start? If it was no one told Chris holder the way he passed Hans in heat 1 was Chris of old good to see him back riding like that?
packerman
To of avoided a fine the Coventry riders just needed to appear at the start & let the Pirates pair get away & follow on without actually trying. Not so easy as a racer tho. Â I remember Hans charging around Poole once trying to get a meeting on with a wet track, can't remember who it was against when others wanted it off.

Presumably because it was o.k. for heat 10 but not for heat 11 !! Massive deterioration in a short period of time?
mitch
But Im thankfull Joonus and Chris didn't ride as Holder could have caused carnage ! Edited June 2, 2015 by mitch
dump that clutch
all they had to do is start the race then pull up with an 'ef'... sorted, no fine.. easy really.
stevebrum
The track was dangerous from the start. Not so, nothing wrong with the track in heat 1.
SPEEDY69
I may be on my own here but I don't think the track was dangerous in Ht 10. Holder lifted on the same patch that Andersen hit earlier in the meeting, after that he and Watt actually raced much harder than they needed to given there was no opposition. A really dangerous track is one which is very patchy - this was the same nearly all over so you know what to exepct when going into the bend and I've seen plenty of meetings continue in those conditions. The issue is really the Ht 10 cut-off. As has been said, the actions of the meeting steward were diabolical - we could all hear him respond in the affirmative when asked if he'd inspect the track before Ht10, which he didn't do. Also what role did they ref have here - surely they're in charge? Â If Ht10 went ahead then an attempt to run 11 to 15 should have been made. It's happened before when Swindon got the meeting called at Ht 10 against Belle Vue when conditions were not worsening because they were concerned they'd lose if it went the whole way - and who remembers the Belle Vue - Poole swimming festival a few years ago. In the end, I think the score was right because Poole had done better up to that point but I don't think the result should count until it's impossible for one team to be overtaken.
