Coventry V Poole 1/6/15

Despite our pre season fall out. Gotta take my hat off tonight to Mick Horton and Havvy for standing up and not just rolling over for Sky Sports and the powers that be. Proud of the Bees tonight. The cherry on top would have been the riders and fans jumping the fence and staging a sit in, on the track so Heat 10 couldn't be run. Speedway has to change and it's great to see people saying enough's enough

Good post Chris

The problem is too many clubs moan about the current rules and underhand things that go on but few will speak out.

ELITE LEAGUE GARGAGE yet again..... glad i dont pay for it..

And the PL are only too happy to want a piece of it.

I think everyone is missing the point here. IMO if this meeting hadn't been on Sky it would have been called this morning based on the weather forecast

And everyone knew it was only ever likely to get to heat 10 as well. Havvy decided to throw a strop when it was heading for 10 heats.

This so called elite league has sold its soul and its ass to Sky TV

And the PL would love more of it too and would do the same. Don't kid yourself any different.

Well Mick Horton bringing up money is his own fault even if the sun was out and the track was perfect nobody would of paid £18.

Well done to Mick for sticking up for Poole and telling the truth.

Havelock is just a joke artist. moans every single time he is on sky.

Garrity's falls were his own fault as he is a bowling ball and not a speedway rider.

Your wrong there Gater1 as usually the stadium has a great attendance esp in big meetings like this. I have known meetings against Poole & Wolves on sky where there have been queues to get in and it's been packed and that's at full price. Tonight it was empty as most people, esp those who live in Coventry and we're experiencing the heavy rain & 45MPH winds thought it would be called off, which it should have been.

Easily the worst conditions I have watched speedway take place in.

I've been losing faith in Speedway for a while now. Even you couldn't have made tonights meeting any better! The SGP has proven itself pretty much a joke so far this year. The SWC will be a joke with the joker!

Thank god the SGP at Cardiff is only taking a few hours out of a great weekend with mates! :drink:

Doesn't matter if a monsoon sets in. The meeting isn't off until heat 10, at which point it's cancelled in the interest of rider safety :t:

Just got in from Wolverhampton after watching The Manic Street Preachers ...Have I missed owt ??? .......Your a Star ... How did you know ..Please pick my lottery numbers !!

Just listened to mick Horton on the podcast on the bees website following tonight's shambles.

Said he is dis-illusioned (many times) and speechless, but managed to spout off for over 5 minutes.

Says his worst day in speedway, then says his worst evening in speedway and then his worst night whilst being involved at coventry speedway !

So it seems it was getting better for him as the interview went on then.

"Where do you point the blame, where do you point the blame...um..I don't know".

Closely followed by "I sympathise for sky sports"

Also admitted that Coventry had no say in how the track was prepared whatsoever.

(Guess that down to Ronnie Kray - whoops, sorry, meant Ronnie Russell)

Why on earth should fans carry on paying their 18 quid - about time some respect

given to the those who provide the wages and salaries to the speedway hierarchy.

Not quite FIFA, but not hard to imagine the backhanders going on with this sport too.

Absolute joke - but not funny anymore !

The worst conditioins for a televised speedway meeting since that meeting when Poole were engineered a 4-point away win at Belle Vue in 2013 perhaps? The one that Poole needed to get through to the play-offs perhaps? Wait a minute,.,Sky Sports, Poole Pirates, poor weather, meeting forced through to Heat 10 before being abandoned, Poole picking up maximum points on both occasions. The stuff of conspiracy theories perhaps? Just supposin' of course.

Or just out and out corruption to the core?

He also said if it was his call he would've called it off this morning. Are we the only sport where circumstances differ when on tv? Sky don't determine when cricketers leave the field when it's raining and Sky don't decide how a wicket is prepared. Time to get rid of Sky.

Horton also stated he will lose tens of thousands because of being forced to run tonight.

Wow 30 pages for 1 meeting, dont get that often. I think a result should only be called if you race 15 heats abandoning early is just rubbish and is cheating out the paying public. If the meeting was definately going the 15 heats would poole of been as happy to get out there? Dont think so. The track IMO didnt even look that bad in the final race, holder looked pretty classy out front is different though with 4 on track in first corner understand that.

Harris iv never known to turn down racing on any track and his facial expressions were terrific i am presuming havvy told him not to go out. Had him and kylmakorpi gone out they may of got a heat advantage, which could have kept the score closer. I think cov were unlucky, especially when hans made a good gate on a 5-1 and just hit a rut and got some unexpected drive.

Ah well onto wednesday where we should see 15 heats :)

Only just got in from work so missed all this evenings entertainment, however knowing how the cricket was affected today i had a feeling something like this was on the cards, Sky have an awful lot to answer for, they have done absolutely nothing for the sport, in fact they have done more harm than good but equally i blame the promoters who let them get away with it and possibly even brought the whole scenario on themselves.

If the sport can't even get the tracks right on the biggest stage of all, what chance is there for the minnows that the British Elite League.

You've got it. The intermediary who should be the representative of the clubs so that Sky get a good product.

Mick Horton says on the podcast, that hes gonna give his sponsors that were there tonight a free meeting in the future as they didnt get value for money,i feel Mick should go the whole way and say to the fans that did turn up will get a free meeting also.It will be good PR,and wont cost that much as very few fans were there, but its his gesture that counts, and will get a few fans back the next time plus a few more as they have seen him offer this "goodwill gesture" and think we

will give speedway another try. Also it was a shame Christina turnbull didnt come down and give her advise as i still dont know what she looks like!!!!!.I have a image in my mind but i just wanted to see if i was correct!!!!

Lot's of people on here with (quite rightly) a very negative opinion on the events of last night...

However as I was watching events unfold I couldn't escape the thoughts that this kind of thing is now simply 'par for the course' with regards to how the sport is run..

I didn't even feel sympathy for those few who did attend because my thought was 'are you mad?'

How common place nowadays is 'lets get to ht 10 and call it off' and yet people still incredibly attend a speedway match after a day of rain, with a further forecast of rain...!?

As I say, par for the course now that the sport (in this country) lets the paying customer down time after time...

Amazed it still has any semblance of a customer base to be honest, it's almost like the fans who still regularly go have become 'immune' to the nonsense..

Fining the riders for putting their safety first is shocking!! The riders know better than anyone the conditions out there so who has the right to send them out there and force them to race when it is dangerous.

I love this sport but that wasn't speedway last night.

There have been some low points for this sport but last night has to be one of the lowest.

It's really concerning what lack of interest in riders safety there is esp after all the serious accidents there have been.

It does make you wonder how much longer this sort of thing can go on for and what the future holds for our sport.

If it is now deemed safe to race in gale force winds and torrential rain, does this mean there will be no more rain offs on sky or in general as not sure how sky would be able to say last night was safe and then call off another meeting in lighter conditions.
