T.N.T.
Just a thought. When teams WANT to get promoted to the Elite League (or next league up) you know you have a thriving sport. Bottom team relegated Top team promoted etc etc.elgium or vica versa in Germany If there is no "want" for promotion or "fight" to stay away from relegation the sport will just stagnate and dwindle even more. I know the choices are made for financial reasons, but it shows a sad state of affairs overall for Speedway in the UK Would Pepsi Cola want to join Coke a Cola in Belgium or vica versa in France ? No because they are two independant companies and dont work together just as the Elite and Premier League are run as two seperate companies and until they run under one banner and have an independant and neutral governing body looking over all issues then the sport can't even think about promotion and relegation, When they tut it was never going to haried the play offs for promotion and relegation it was a farce as the EL teams whoi finished bottom were far too strong for the PL Champions who didn't want to go up and the EL track didnt want to go down.but this was never going to happen any way. Now we have far too many riders doubling up with most EL tracks having 4 of their 7 riders being PL riders also. So bottom place v Champions could feature the same riders but even if it was straight relegation you could end up with a rider who doubles up having to leave the PL team because they have gone up so having been promoted they not only have to find a top rider but also replace their number one. It will never work and hopefully never will feature again.
Humphrey Appleby
No because they are two independant companies and dont work together just as the Elite and Premier League are run as two seperate companies and until they run under one banner and have an independant and neutral governing body looking over all issues then the sport can't even think about promotion and relegation, The English football pyramid is made-up of separate entities, but that doesn't preclude promotion and relegation between leagues at different levels (even if the system took over 100 years to evolve). The difference between football and speedway though, is there are more than enough teams wanting to play at the higher levels, so promotion and relegation is the only fair way to allocate places. Promotion and relegation is pointless in speedway, and each of the leagues could easily accommodate 18-20 teams before you even need to start worrying about a competitive entry model. However, the leagues (and their respective fans) should all understand they're complementary to each other, and that the health of the BEL is ultimately dependent on the BPL and vice versa. Daniel Smith
Ah we're back to the old myths again. I do wonder why Premier League teams aren't packing stadiums out..... Ok, what's mythical about what I said, explain? The reason the PL isn't packed out is because that just like the EL, speedway in this country over price itself to the masses. Only us die hards roll up week in week out even when we're not enjoying it. I keep saying to myself I'm gonna start picking and choosing meetings but I just can't leave it alone. There are mugs the same as me which is keeping speedway alive and the promoters know that and will continue to chuck a pound on the admission prices year after year because they know it'll get paid by the gullible.
