Plymouth Devils Vs Ipswich Witches 22/5/15 Lc

Mr havelock should be done for an illegal approach as morris was in a declared 1-7: i wonder if ben morley knows

Best get rid of edberg then and give morris his place then

I asked it as a question as I though Morris had been going well.

I just thought it was a bit hard on him.

Of course, I know nothing about any of the circumstance other than he looked to be scoring well for you.

P.S.

We're very happy with Alex Edberg at Berwick :)

fair enough mate but simota at reserve will make us stronger especially at home, morris has dropped from his starting ave his good when in front but rarely makes a pass and when pressured his often makes a mistake or falls off,but he will have another club within a week and I eish him well

Well I never saw Morris going, of all the permutations I thought of Morris, Newman and Holder were the constants however while I personally wouldn't have released Morris, I can see why they have as far as the numbers go.

We need to be stronger at reserve, ideally Morris at 7 was my plan but that meant we had to replace Chapman with someone around the 5 mark. Clearly not many options around!

That said, Kurtz is an asset, although I still don't think he warrants his average but is, at this moment in time, more likely to score points than Morris. The way it has been done, if true, stinks, dare I say it 'Bowden-esque'.

Anyway the talk is Benko will fill the void that Chapman has left so I guess that makes us a bit stronger, which we desperately need!

'Golden boy' Simota and Risager are on borrowed time so I do hope these aren't the only changes made.

Out of interest was there a second half at Plymouth last night? A rider scheduled for that could have taken Morris' place. As a Rye fan I'm annoyed about this, while Plymouth had nothing to race for last night the result of the meeting still had implications on the group and as such they should have at least been able to track a full team of riders.

You have every right to be annoyed.

Although not arriving until 7pm, we were told that it had been announced that Devils will cover 3 of Ashleys rides with Konopka! Straight away we knew this would not happen. The reserve rule has been in place for more years than I can remember. It was only on the parade lap that it was announced about 3 riders only in 3 races.

The following is from Ashleys dad, as posted on the Plymouth forum.

If people think Ashley and myself travel all way to bristol in bank holiday traffic then van breaks down is with holding services then you can think again. While I m on ash didn't t know about being axed until he call trig to say we were struggling to get there. As for been sacked just show again the only professional part of speedway are the riders and merchanics. Until pl follows El with british reserves this country will struggle. We ve enjoyed been in plymouth team fans and team have been great but we re left with bad taste after this ash coming back from injury been made to do 7 rides most matches done his job most matches and then sacked is frankly embarrassing for the club.

Fair enough.

As it happens, yesterday I was in Cheddar. I rejoined the M5 at J22 (Somerset Speedway) at 3pm.The normal 1.5 hour drive back to Plymouth took just short of 2 hours. Bristol is around 30 mins further North of J22. Assuming that Ashley arrives at the track early, say 5.30pm, he would have probably told them at around 3pm of his problems.(I don't know, just surmising) In my opinion, the Promotion would have had time to organise a replacement, even if it was only the likes of Matt Bates who lives in Exeter.

As it was, before the meeting, the rider only known as 'Polish Dave' due to our inept Presenter, was practicing. He crashed, machine carried away, yet he appeared at the parade of riders, but not announced as starting. Bizarre.

Announcements regarding Ashley varied from 'not here', 'held up in traffic' and 'broken down'.

No official announcement regarding Kurtz was made until after Ht12.We were told to wait for a press release about a new signing. Most shouted 'we know its Kurtz'. Even then it was only when pressured that Trigger told us what we already knew! Awful way to conduct business. The comment about former fans favourite was muted at best. The comments on the Devils forum regarding Kurtz last few meetings for them were pretty damning about him deliberately reducing his average to sign for Somerset. yes, including you Lewy! Now you think he is a great signing. Going to need extra pens for future Devils fixtures. With Kurtz and Newman renowned for moving at the starts, I can see a lot of reruns!

It says on the Ipswich v Berwick thread on live updates that Ash was told by the Berwick promotion that he was being dropped. Incredible. Yet the first time anyone from the club he rides for mentioned it was once he had broken down. I remain convinced that Ash would have ridden and then told 'you are fired'

Also announced was that Allen Trump has financially secured the immediate future of the Devils. We have already got his air fence from Oxford! A new long term lease has also been secured.

Finally, to Ashley and your Dad : There were a lot of angry fans at the way this has happened. You are both highly thought of on the terraces. You will be welcomed back here anytime you come back.

Seeing fisher and newman continually get in each others way in heat 15 last night wasnt particularly good to watch. Rarely does Fisher look for his partner and several times this year already he has in fact messed his partner up so no i dont find him good to watch.

Bloody Hell!

That's a bit hard on Morris is it not?

He's scored pretty heavily at home.

We need to look after our Brit riders!!!!!!!!

Was he doing that well ?

According to speedway averages, he was hitting 5.54 for Workington last season. Now, 4.76. His green sheet has reduced from the start of the season.

He's had two good meetings - home to Somerset and home to Redcar. In the other nine he's averaging less than a point a ride including bonuses.

Its not that impressive.

Fisher is well known for his selfish attitude on track. Then again, I have seen Stead, Kennett, King & Masters (amongst others) this season and I haven't seen any of them look for partners either.

Speaking of Fisher, I am wondering whether all the comments about Plymouth are entirely objective. When he was struggling it was mentioned every time but now he has started to bang a few points in - 47 in the last 4 meetings after apparently having his machinery looked over - there's not a word said.

Funny, that.

The reaction of Plymouth fans when Fisher was signed was mixed to be fair so I'm not that surprised by him not getting that much praise. Some said they didn't want him as he was dangerous, others were looking forward to the entertainment he provides because of his fearless attitude.

Personally I haven't praised Fisher because he is yet to score the sort of points I expect him to. He is still beaten by most number ones most of the time and struggles against other heat leaders home and away.

I expect better especially at home.

I have seen him ride three times this season (at Sheffield, Ipswich & Workington) and he's scored double figures every time. At Workington, he beat all the home leaders and at Sheffield lost out only to Stead. Recently, at home he has beaten all the Sheffield heat leaders, Grajczonek, Kurtz and King. That's not bad.

I think there is a question of expectation but let's not forget he was signed on a 7.89 average. In the last few weeks, he's well above that.

My point was really about objective comment - slagging off a rider when they do badly is one thing but to be balanced there has to be a few words when they improve, surely ?

Tell you what, you've got to tip your hat to Covatti who showed a great attitude and character.

Plymouth was never going to be a good track for him and he scored a single point there with Sheffield last season.

A single point from his first three rides with the texter labelling him as "all over the place", a lot of riders would have just accepted that it wasn't a track for them and let their heads drop.

But Covatti is obviously made of sterner stuff and after probably making a few changes, came out and won a couple of important races just when we needed them.

I had reservations at the start of the season I'll be honest, but although there's still a lot of racing left this season, so far he's been a terrific signing and a shining light in a poor start for the team.

I love watching Covatti all action never seen a rider get his head so slow when going round the corners.

Very true HT, I've not slagged off Fisher just not praised him yet because I still think there is more to come. He has improved and I'm sure all Devils fans would agree with that but in my opinion he is only just getting to the level he should be at.

But there is more to be positive about that's for sure.
