Swindon Robins V Coventry Bees 26th May 2015

Recommended Posts

Well yes. They said that a million times. But to me it just looked like when the going gets tough he rolls off the throttle.

Him and Harris have a book on everything else's fault but there own

I look forward to seeing a video of you at work with food poisoning. Should be a right larf.

The worrying thing is Phil would probably quite happily record himself in work "suffering" from food poisoning too! :D

Slightly more serious, if he wasn't fit, he shouldn't have been riding tbf.

.....beesboybert.....As for Batchelor, how unfortunate was he that his "food poisoning" seemed to hit him hard just as he was being passed by someone?

Perhaps he was passing something himself at the time?

Totally agree with your comments Mike, so good to see Kyle doing well in the difficult No2 position. I was disappointed to see him leave Coventry but great to see him continuing on from his excellent season last year.

No 2 isn't a difficult position.

It's the easiest position in the top 5!

Really pleased with last nights meeting.

Everything went right on sky.

*Good close meeting with passing.

* Track was good.

* Attendance was fantastic.

Just proves to show if the price is right there are still lots of people out there who are interested in going for a night out to the Speedway.

The weather also plays a part to the non-diehard fans.

Yeh I definitely would :)

But Yeh he should have rang in sick. He gave Coventry an extra point riding. So Coventry fans need to thank batch

Can't believe some are still wittering on about the Bees being favourites and chucking this away. Poole are still comfortable favourites for the title.

Swindon are a good side with a superb top 5 (especially at Blunsdon) and are certs for the Playoffs, as they were before the season started. If they get the number one position sorted they'll kick on from here.

I think we did well to get a point to be honest as I think that was one of our worst collective efforts of the season, probably only rivalled by the lacklustre performance at Monmore Green.

Talk about biased posting !!

Agreed Sarjeant's error was his own as he just got too excited at the start of Ht 12 - fortunately for Swindon

Hans found himself the meat in the sandwich and was victim of a classic first bend bunching if ever there was one - as opposed to 'running into the side of Morris' as the poster put it!

Garrity and North - decision could have gone either way - even Dakota North said as much when interviewed so clearly not as 'clear' as the poster put it!

Anyways - good result for Robins despite having a non firing Batchelor on the night ( bet he was really pleased with Rosco's rant at him ! ) - at least he gave it a go for christ sake.

For Bees - went wrong with Harris finishing third in his 3rd ride and then James breaking the tapes - oh yeh and Kylmo not turning up but we'll forgive him given his previous matches so far! and then the Hans injury.

Let's hope Hans is not out too long as his average takes a tumble for June onwards and guest's to cover will be hard to find especially away and also at home to Poole next week as only Leicester and Kings Lynn are not riding on the night and Doyle won't fit ! Better to go with r/r I reckon but could've done with Hans v Poole on tele !!!

PS : Impressed with both youngsters Nick Morris and Kyle Howarth despite Ht 15.

Danny King continues his good form of late and deserves his GB call up.

Cheers - Onwards and upwards for the Bees !!

Thecoombdog biased? You must be having a laugh! I spent half the Robins championship winning season debating the value of Simon Stead being worth his place in the team!

Really enjoyed last nights coverage!

Good meeting, great crowd and atmosphere, close racing, close scoreline, abit of drama, and good work from the sky team. Shows what a good product speedway can be when everything comes together. Both Glasgow and Swindon have shown it can be done, so now its up to other clubs to follow suit.

Fully agree that this is the way to promote a Sky meeting and get the supporters in which really does come over great on TV. However, it is no good kidding ourselves that the promotions can run meetings at these prices for the non-televised meetings - they would lose money hand over fist. Whether we like it or not, speedway is a £17/18 sport unless you can get enough sponsorship to subsidise lower admission prices.

Anyway, it was a good spectacle last night and a great avert for speedway. Well done Swindon!

Totally agree on this! Although was great to see 2000+ there last night, no way can clubs afford to offer £5 a ticket every week.

£5 x 2000 = £10,000

£17 x 800 = £13,600

Promotors just cannot take the risk of offering £5 a ticket all season and getting less money than they do now from 800 die hards every week. Sky money obviously helped last night but running a meeting at £5 a person is not sustainable.

£10 a ticket? Is that reasonable? Would those 2000 fans still come week in week out through out the season? Im not sure unfortunately.

100% the right way of going about it though is offering cheap tickets for sky meetings etc, will hopefully get people back through the turnstiles again!

Either way, we need more fans back into stadiums.

He had food poisoning.

Seem to recall he's used that excuse more than once before. If anyone has ever had real food poisoning they would know you are nearly always doubled up in pain and cannot undertake normal activities, it can last for several days as well. I struggle to like him to be honest as I think he is only really interested in himself - can't forget the Belle Vue match a while back where the GP superstars pootled around at the back (Troy and Zagar) while everyone else raced properly.

Have you only mentioned this again so I have to say that you were right?!

Yeah but that's cos you were wrong!!! ;)

To be fair to ER I said we would never win the title with Steady in the team so I was well and truly made to look stupid. I wasn't too displeased about it though!

Now to totally screw with the numbers, when I arrived there was a large queue to get in last night, so a lot of people still paid £17.

Makes no odds to me who was right or who was wrong Coombers. Healthy debate is always good! ;)

Good crowd, good atmosphere, fairly decent meeting. But apart from Robbo screwing up Hans in heat 10 and Troy going around him every pass was around the inside. How long will it be for speedway riders to grasp that 95 of passing is on the inside - ride the kerb abd you probably won't be passed.

Heat 14 could have gone either way.

Rob Godfrey was critical of his Scunny team on Monday saying he had put loads of dirt on the outside but only the Somerset team were using it pass.

Riding the kerb at Normanby Road is not the quickest way around.

Trouble is, the equation isn't that easy. Many older fans pay a reduced price & very often, it's kids for a quid. It might be worth a punt however to reduce admission to a top price of £12 with no reductions for OAP's as this is lower than the present price for a few meetings to see what the attendances are like. I as an OAP would be quite happy with this.

'Hansi ' got up and walked across the centre green to a lot of clapping and cheering from both sides, there was a mention from the announcer that he would visit the hospital for a check on possible concussion and the hand injury. Sincerely hope he is feeling much better today, extremely popular at Swindon!!!! Very good meeting and really enjoyed the atmosphere, many new faces appeared last night. :t:

Took my nephew for the first time...recovering from depression after the Town defeat at Wembley!...he loved it and will be back for more in 3 weeks time...only 1 meeting in June though!!!He was fortunate he didn't have to visit the back-straight bogs or pay 17 quid! One of the best meetings I've seen at The Abbey since 1968.

Great atmosphere on the back-straight with a smattering of Bees fans amongst a noisy Swindon crowd and no aggro. The Howarth-Morris 5-1 turned the match. Batch shouldn't have ridden if he was that ill, Swindon would have scored more with R/R.

After the Poole fiasco early in the season it was good to see the fans returning, almost double the usual crowd. As Rosco said Swindon rode better as the track dried out, was dampened down for the benefit of Sky cameras early on.

If paying a fiver cant get fans off their arse and away form Sky what can!!! It's a 10/12 quid sport anyway.

Great future in store for Swindon Speedway with the new stadium construction due to start next month, which should attract more fans to the sport.

Before they start I presume someone will get a compass out and make sure the track is the right way round to avoid the low sun? Don't need any more with problems like Leicester and Kings Lynn, not that it will bother me as I can't go to Swindon now. Good luck with the new stadium though. I suppose the jobsworth stewards will be transferring over there and the 'no dogs' policy will still be in force?
