In Other News......

Recommended Posts

Despite being a member of the BSF since the very early days, I rarely post on here anymore but yesterday being the 3rd anniversary of the death of Lee Richardson came on here expecting to add my tributute to an established thread started in memory of one of the nicest, decent blokes to have graced the sport. There were plenty of tributes on social media but a distinct lack of any mention of it on this, probably the biggest speedway forum on the web - a sad state of affairs. :(

Many people on here seem to be obsessed with one team, one rider or one topic with very little interest in anything else outside of that. Surely there's more to speedway than that?

Saw this posted on social media today, http://www.sunraysiadaily.com.au/story/3077221/adams-recovery-ongoing/?cs=1259 far more worthy of a read than the majority of topics on here!

Personally I find it very distasteful to use such events to take a pop at the forum and other threads. Simply start a thread paying your respects, without tarnishing it by having a go at people.

Even the heading 'In Other News'. Disrespectful.

I am sure most of us, if not all have posted or paid our respects in some way to Lee via social media.

RIP Rico.

Personally I find you an irritating knob - but each to their own aye?

I was airing my view on the lack of any mention on here of Lee on his anniversary. And the other news relates to another Leigh, who was another great servant to British Speedway and the remarkable journey he's making on his road to recovery.

Dear Wackie,

Your opening paragraph was all about Rico, was it not?

I doubt there is a single forum member who does not view Rico's death as a tragedy. But...is there a need to mark the 3rd. anniversary of his passing and is not doing so showing a lack of respect?. I think not.

What does demonstrate a marked lack of respect is members calling each other names...Cut it out!.

Have you actually click the link? Have you seen how Leigh Adams is doing? Did you realise just how bad his injuries were? Do you care, or do you just like sticking your nose in?

Funnily enough no.

Why is that?

Because you haven't mentioned anything about Leigh Adams, just rambled on with your woes that the forum isn't discussing things you are interested in.

The link to Leigh Adams is very useful and I will now click on it to read about his progress as that is something that most definitely is of interest. However, not many are going to read it are they?

Would it not have been better to have made the title of the thread "Leigh Adams Update" or something along those lines?

Edited to add:

Thanks for the update Wackie, good to see Leigh is making progress in his rehabilitation.

Yes, yes, yes, yes and No (as commenting on posts is not sticking one's nose in). If people don't want their posts commented on, why post?. Similarly, if all that is wanted is agreement then a forum is the wrong place to be.

Dear CHR,

Thanks for your polite response. Yes my opening paragragh mentioned Rico, but was putting why I started this thread in context. Like I said, I've been a member of this forum and of it in it's previous guises for probably 15 years, but frequent it rarely these days. Probably something to do with the fact I don't have a club to support anymore, but more so because of the crap that's constantly posted on here. It used to be a source of great information/banter/friendships. Now it's a pale shadow of that and seems to be wrapped up with one or two clubs and one rider in particular (well the EL & SGP threads, which with the TV coverage is all I really have any current knowledge about these days). - They may as well be renamed the Poole and Darcy Ward sections!!!

It's boring, it's uninteresting, it's obsessive!!

I found a story on Leigh Adams this morning, which I thought may be of interest to genuine speedway fans. I certainly wasn't aware of the extent of his injuries, it had been kept quite quiet as to how bad it was. Yet to read about the progress he's made is amazing. So I thought I'd share this. Outcome, one of the forum's (ok I promise not to call members names in my response to you as you were so polite),... one of the forum's more active posters jumps straight on the thread sticking his nose in and trying to stir things up. That I'm afraid riles me.

In response to your other comment - yes, I do think it's important to mark Rico's anniversary, I think it's important for Emma and the kids to know that he and they are still very much in people's minds, and that their thoughts are still with them. I didn't say that it show a lack of respect that there was no specific thread set up on here to mark it, was just a tad surprised when I saw there wasn't.

You have posted a link with no reference to Leigh Adams at all, in the midst of ramblings that you have now posted on two threads that their are topics on the forum that don't interest you with a thread heading that has nothing to do with Leigh either.

As a result, very few people will even find out about the progress Leigh has made.

Why didn't I title the thread Leigh Adam's update? Yeah maybe I should, but I thought of it as a general thread where maybe from time I or others may link interesting general news that isn't Poole or Ward related could be posted.

Even so, why didn't you click the link and read it before jumping in and stirring things up again?

Why would I click on something that I have no idea what it's about?

I know this seems to be a habit of yours, going onto threads and topics you're not interested in.. but most normal people don't do that.

If it's a link about Leigh Adams, say so.. it tends to help.

My second post on here states the news relates to Leigh! Anyway, who made you the forum Police?

Apart from the Ward thread other thread have I posted on that doesn't interest me? I'm keen to know what I am and am not interested in in your mighty opinion!

Why would I click on something that I have no idea what it's about?

So what stopped you coming on the forum and STARTING a tribute thread? I am 100% certain absolutely nobody would have objected to that. Not like you acting like a prat on this thread.

My second post on here states the news relates to Leigh!

So if I hadn't of posted, Leigh would never have been mentioned.

As for who made me the forum police?

Try reading your opening post again, plus your ramblings on the Darcy Ward thread and ask yourself the same question.

It's really quite simple, you had an outburst on the Ward thread.. nobody cared, you didn't get the attention you wanted, so you ran along to start another one here, disrespectfully using two legends of the sport in Rico and Leigh Adams to do so.

As said, a topic named "Leigh Adams Update" and a link to the article would have been great.

No, I'm sure someone who would have actually taken the time to click the link and read the article would have mentioned Leigh. Really, your posts just go to show that you're more interested in starting arguments on here than actually reading any genuine speedway news.

You and many others are obviously obsessed with Ward, my post on that particular thread was to highlight my shock really that there was no thread regarding Lee's anniversary on the forum yet people were still banging on about Ward despite the fact that there's been no news about him for weeks - it seems to me that far too many people who regularly use this forum now are only interested in anything Ward or Poole related. Hence..... in other news!!!

Well said and well reasoned...Thank you.

Thank you CHR.

Now please excuse me if I revert to name calling - it won't be directed at your goodself, but some people really chaff my arse on here! :D
