Redcar V Workington Pl 7:30pm

What a shambles.

Track was obviously substandard before the meeting started and the 4 heats that took place confirmed it.

The crowd knew that the meeting would never go 15 heats and its anyone's guess how many more supporters we have lost because of this latest debacle.

I seriously wonder if we'll even see the season out.

It's so disappointing because things could be so much better but it'll take more than cosmetic surgery to fix these problems.

I didn't even win the 50/50 draw!

At least there's no meeting next week.....up to now!

Do you know what number did win the 50/50? If I've won I'd like to get my money before the Receivers do :D

Thought I would wait until today before I posted once I'd calmed down a bit. As soon as we arrived we knew something was very a miss with the ploughing field. A 1930's tractor and trailer going round with a little man turning some wheels that were doing bugger all !!!!!

Feel sorry for the Redcar fans having to endure that every week it was shambolic to say the least , a call off after heat 4 without an apology from the promotion for their fans and the travelling fans .

I really do think we would have taken the points on offer last night which pains me even more. By the sounds on things on here a very sad day for Redcar Speedway :o

Ashamed is not the word, I really felt sorry for the travelling Workington fans having to endure that.

This has to lie solely on the promotions shoulders and to say over the tannoy a PARTIAL refund on the next meeting is totally out of order.

44 years a fan of Teesside/Middlesbrough/Redcar and that has to be the biggest shambles I've ever witnessed.

Fans are not turning up in their droves because of this promotion.

It's not all bad,,, at least those that did go, will save £11 next time ;-)

I remember the days when, if it was called off before heat 6 ( even in the days of 13 heats) and it was FREE admission to any of the next 3 meetings

the track man works full time so I am told and he did not get to the track until 18.00hrs also he does it for free,, just 1 hour to get it ready for racing ?? only 1 thing to say is JOKE,, its time for havvy to give up and let his gary take over if he wants to do it or redcar will fold sadly

I've been over 3 times in the car, not last night though, but a 33 seater bus did travel. Apparently no rain for two days and not a word of apology, disgrace. I suppose weekend tracks suit volunteers more but Redcar's been a good track in the past, something obviously needs to change..

It's not the track that has problems it's the amature promotion ploughing it up.

Redcar ALWAYS had a good racing track when Glynn Taylor was sorting it but this promotion won't pay out for a proper track curator infact they won't pay out for anything

£1 per race refund.... So when/if a result is called at heat 10 do the punters get £5 concession??

No. Call off has to be before heat 10 is completed for refund on another match.

All these negative post's, I thought I would write a positive one, At one time, if I wanted to park in the car park, I had to arrive no later than 7.05pm, Now I can arrive at 7.25pm or later and still get into the car park. And considering the car park is one third smaller than it used to be, it's got to be good, hasn't It??

REDCAR Bears Speedway closes for the last time

Not a headline any of us wants to read but 'm sorry to say that it is a possibility before the end of this current season. So where do we lay the blame for what has gone wrong with this club. A club that had the potential to be a very good club, I was there on 13th April 2006 along with thousands of others, yes thousands who turned up for the opening night.

Current Promotion, Brian Havelock, Eric Gladders, Brian Gladders:

Classed a few years ago as the saviours of speedway on Teesside, they could do no wrong in the eyes of many supporters. They have improved the stadium, new bar, new stand better facilities all out of their own pocket. Unfortunately this has led them to believe that they need to re-coup money at an alarming rate, at the expense of the supporters. They have made cut back after cut back to save money, I dont think they have ever employed a real track man who knows what he/she was doing. They now rely on volunteers who will do what they can for nothing. The track has been a disgrace for over 2 years, Redcar is a gate and win track, thats if the riders can stay on for 4 laps.

Brian Havelock and Eric Gladders have themselves lost a lot of the supporters through their own attitude, ignorance, aggression and belief that they know best. Penny pinching is all well and good but in the right area's. The track condition must be the No1 priority. The riders safety is paramount, to prepare a track that is dangerous for those riders should result in a full investigation by the BSPA and a suspension of Promoting licence should be applied until the BSPA are convinced improvements have been made.

Glyn Taylor:

Glyn took over the reigns of Redcar Speedway and tried to run it on his own. Finding that it wasnt as easy as he maybe first thought he looked to make savings. His downfall was trying to sack the then skipper Gary Havelock who I would say was his biggest outlay. This instantly caused a massive rift amongst the supporters, some could see why he was doing it others just couldnt believe it. Brian Havelock stepped in and set up an SOS fund (Save Our Skipper), the fans would help pay Havvy's wages, so god knows just how much he was on. This was the start of the end for Glyn Taylor. Glyn was a track man, he certainly knew his stuff. The track he produced every week was fantastic, riders loved coming to Redcar, the racing was always very good, the fan base was solid even if the team wasnt anything spectacular. After every meeting Glyn would stay back and scrape off the racing strip, often spending many hours doing track work for the benefit of riders and fans alike.

C.V.S

The initial founder with some help from local people who started the ball rolling in 2006. Played the role of a silent partner, he has probably re-couped all of his initial outlay in the following years. Seems to have completely walked away from Redcar Speedway, not even sure if he is still a share holder, wouldnt blame him if he wasnt. Would of liked him to have been more involved in the actual running of the club.

So we can lay the blame at what is happening over quite a wide area. Ultimately whats happening at Redcar must come down to the current promotion, they must realize that they are living in the dark ages and its time for them to go. They have had offers of help, people have wanted to come on board. These people have been told, yes we want your money but you can be team sponsor, you cant come onto the board and have any say in what we do. Ged Rathbone a perfect example and there has been others.

If the above headline does appear who will be to blame. The promotion will no doubt blame the supporters for not turning up, that is their mentality,

nothing is ever their fault !!!!

I await 'Whiteliner's comments with interest.

Hope I haven't disappointed you Ian :t:
