Tsunami
hope they crack on with the PL meeting then as we all know the curfew up thereis a pain in the arse if there is any delays at the best of times. And it will be enforced.
topsoil
Don't rush away at the end of the meeting, as in the second half it is Berwick versus the Newcastle Gems in the Northern Junior League. Â 6 races of junior racing with kids about 9 years old and upwards. Normally gets well supported at Berwick, certainly did last season. Starting to see the fruits of junior racing as well, very early days, but Liam Carr, Luke Ruddick and Stefan Farnaby all into National League (and in Liam's case Premier League last year). A lot of work goes on with the young riders and hopefully this will get continued good support. Would be good to see more and more youngsters coming through, good for the health of the sport as a whole.

topsoil
Yes, Liam started at Newcastle training school. Must admit I never get down to Newcastle, do they have many juniors riding after the meetings? I know they used to have the Gems but not heard much since. Would like to see every local team have a junior set up. Regular meetings between Berwick, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle, Redcar, Workington after Premier League games? Get more riders coming through the sport.

Yes, We try to run the training school every week starting in May. Unfortunately the rain has stopped the last two weeks, but we are hoping to run the school this Sunday. Ran the school since 2008 and at one time we used to have about 16 riders in our 1.5hours slot. The start of the Gems in the NJL gives all the riders an opportunity to race, as well as ride at their level. I am getting about 6 each week riding in second half races, and trying to give them all two races each. That's 500's and 125's. Â The teams you mentioned are the NJL if you swap Castleford, Halifax and Northside for Edinburgh and Glasgow. dantodan
Tsunami devotes countless hours to training. I sincerely hope he sees one or two of his trainees make it via the National League and the Premier League to the top flight, but Tsunami, if you don't see a trainee go that far your value to speedway is still immense and you have done far more than your bit. Â Back to that match at Berwick I would have been there but it clashes with my family and I going on holiday. I think Newcastle's team of "second strings" will entertain and we may get closer than some home fans think we are capable of. Â Anyway I hope Berwick get a larger gate than normal due to lots of Diamonds fans heading up the A1 Edited May 13, 2015 by dantodan

bigeddiechek
It cannot get much smaller  Unfortunately it can, and you under what circumstances...  We need to get folk coming along to this. Should be a good meeting.
StevePark
Most things are quite easy to predict: Â 1) Boring follow-the-leader 'racing' with little/no overtaking 2) Having to listen to that idiot with a mic on the centre green, making jokes that only he finds funny, 3) (Hopefully no serious injuries and) have to wait for a County Ambulance because there is only 1 Paramedic or Doctor on duty 4) Despite all of the above (and possible home win) I'll still be there!!! StevePark
I am ffollowing your drift, and like yourself I am always there, but a lot are not.  Trouble is I'm only 60 miles down the road (Newcastle) and nearly went up for the match against Workington, but for 2 of the above reasons, decided not to spend the approx £30 it would cost me (fuel, admission and Prog). How many others (who are considerably nearer) are put off by similar reasons?  I have a lot of time for John and Dennis, but something has to be done (not just at Berwick, mind you, but in speedway in general) to try and attract more people through the gates (obvious statement I know!) before (providing that it isn't already) it's too late.

If I could just walk across to the track I would be there, but I suspect people that have to travel have second thoughts nowadays, with weather,Doctor and paramedic situations, poor entertainment value for money outlay as SP refers too.A lot of Berwick fans come from outlying districts IMO .Fans wonder nowadays if they will see 15 heats of speedway on the night with all the excuses that can be made to end a meeting after 10 Heats.
bigeddiechek
Well, I have managed to get a few extra faces along, and been lambasted for it on here. Â Bringing along new faces is really what needs to be done now. Â Please don't let this be a cue for all the other things that need to be sorted out in British speedway, these have all been done to death (excuse the pun). Â We need feet through the door.

The first thing is to admit there is a problem, not only by individual clubs but nationally aswell

dantodan
Trying to encourage more pay at the door punters is difficult. Publicity is the only way IMO. Â In 2004 we, (Newcastle) nearly closed down. I came along with some friends known as the "Diamond Geezers", we met reguarily with the promoters over the winter and all of 2005, we raised funds to sponsor our ideas and helped Darryl and George towards continuing in 2005. The Newcastle Speedway support group, the Diamond Geezers were self financing, we never received a penny from the promoters, by choice, as we just wanted to help keep speedway going. We didn't even ask for free admission. We spent loads of our personal time and effort publicising Newcastle speedway. I think the promoters got a lift by our involvement and they have kept going ever since with later sponsors help. The Diamond Geezers were not a supporters club, that came later and I wish them well. Â Berwick could benefit from a similar thing to the Diamond Geezers. A group of you could acheive things, like we did, that the promoters cannot find the time to do ie get out and about looking for contacts and publicising the Bandits. Â I really hate the idea that any of our local clubs will close down through lack of support so good luck Bandits I hope your crowds improve Edited May 13, 2015 by dantodan

Nothing wrong with bringing newbies well done. My priority would be to bring back the old faces that have deserted Berwick, that means listening to their complaints and acting on it Trying to encourage more pay at the door punters is difficult. Commercial managers job to arrange distribution, even if it is fans that do it for them.

While it is admirable that you are bringing new faces,it seems to me that British Speedway is beyond repair to a great number of fans, nobody can come up with any real solution.Lets face it the diehard support are in the older age group nowadays and the sport has been unable to attract a new younger fan base for whatever reasons.Sad but true IMO .Not only Berwick are being affected.
