TheCookster
Quite a ridiculous state of affairs regarding tonight's Best Pairs in Esbjerg. The "Great Britain" team is know going to comprise one British rider and one Australian rider! Looking on the bright side, this will open up a much bigger pool of riders for GB in the World Cup later this year ... though there could be some in-fighting between Rossiter and Lemon to see which Australians are going to ride for Australia and which will ride for GB! mrss
I live in the real world and I know it's bloody ridiculous that Rory Schlien is representing Great Britian. It's not surprising no one takes speedway seriously.

Lord Skid
Brilliant, does that mean we can use Warne and Brett Lee in the Ashes Series? Oh I forgot, they play real Sport. Edited May 9, 2015 by Lord Skid

It's not surprising no one takes speedway seriously. My Sincere Apologies, Just got in and was not up to speed on the story. I thought you were referring to Tai Woffinden as the Australian riding for GB. Please accept my apologies ! I'll take a hundred lines , "read before you post" I totally agree with you the situation is ridiculous !

The White Knight
WE still have! Who? Tai and Harris (possibly) and Nicholls (possibly) I don't think any of the young ones are up to it yet. It would, however, be worth giving them a go for experience.
Red Panda
Rory Schlein is a British passport holder due to residency so as it is not an FIM recognized event he is eligible to ride.......if it was an FIM event he can't ride as he has competed for Australia before....... Chris Brown
Can somebody administer the injection for British Speedway and put it out of its misery. Its frankly embarrassing to accept an invite to a competition and then have an Aussie representing us Fair play to Rory Schlein for doing it. Good job Robert Lambert decided to be a Brit after all or it would be an Aussie and a German. British Speedway really is a shambles Who? Tai and Harris (possibly) and Nicholls (possibly) I don't think any of the young ones are up to it yet. It would, however, be worth giving them a go for experience. Frankly ANY British rider would be a better bet than Rory Schlein (again no disrespect to him) as he is not even qualified to ride for GB
secsy1
Not being a child and remembering speedway from its hey days in the sixties certain New Zealanders represented team GB in the World team cups. A Mr.Mauger and Mr.Briggs did ride for team GB with distinction. Anybody remember Zola Budd being snapped from Soth Africa to represent us at the Olympics. Kevin Pietersen another South African playing cricket not for team GB but England. Also works the other way with Ryan Giggs playing schoolboy internationals for England then going to play for Wales. Its all confusing in every sport, but credit to Rory for agreeing to it and giving Robert Lambert the experience. Everyone can criticise, but sometimes give credit to the ones in a difficult situation.

RP Incorrect. Riders can switch country. Holta did it and Kylmakorpi is in the Sweden squad having raced for Finland.

I know that Kylmakorpi is.........you can ride for the country that holds you hold the licence for but I was lead to believe that for team events if you had ridden for one country in an FIM event you could not ride for a different one.................unless that has changed recently.............. RP Wrong again. It's nothing at all top do with licences. It's all about your passport. It's not changed recently, Matej Ferjan switched from Slovenian to Hungarian about 6 or 7 years ago. Ok then so how come Robert Lambert can compete at team level for team GB yet can go through the GP qualifiers on a German licence................ That is like saying that Tai can ride for Team GB but oh if you want you can ride for Australia................. RP PS If I am wrong then why has it been like that in the past.............. nw42
This speedway event tonight was not a FIM speedway event. I will repeat again that this was the Speedway Pairs Cup and by enlarge an invitational meeting at best which David Rowe on Eurosport explained and pointed out quite well. I have been saying this until I am blue in the face all afternoon. If indeed it had been a FIM meeting then the chosen riders at the beginning of the week would have most likely have had to have ridden tonight apart from Craig Cook who admitted him self that he was unfit. Who to? Why wouldn't they listen Baz?
