Oh Well Theres Always Next Season!

Recommended Posts

On 24-April Kent issued a statement, which included the paragraph:

"Regarding last nights decision, it is felt prudent to await until the club receives the decision of the Planning Committee in writing, so theres complete clarity over what permission has been granted (obviously having been successful, this is basically in line with the clubs application and relates to Fridays only) and the specific conditions therein, before issuing a more comprehensive statement about this and what this means for the future of Kent Speedway."

Still no update! Would expect them to be singing & dancing about it! Looks like it's going to be announced next Friday at the Orsett Hall Hotel

Since i will be working i will not be able to attend this upcoming fans meeting but i hope whilst some things will naturally be asked to remain "within these walls" I hope the future will be openly clarified, having the Kent racetrack available on a Friday though is not great news for the simple reason that i cannot see Lakeside Speedway agreeing to it much the same way as Rye House would not want Lakeside to race on a Saturday night, therefore in conclusion i can only assume that the planning permission for a Friday night would be to allow the "Hammers" to change location.

We all no how much the doubling up of riders has grown to the size it has but fans doubling or even tripling up has been going on for many decades, certainly when there were more tracks around and so no promoter would want to see true competition by having to race the same night as a geographically close rival.

I thought it was common knowledge that Lakeside are moving to Kent next year? Firday nights, running in the EL?

Now confirmed Lakeside are not moving to Kent. So much for the so called "common knowledge" . Amazing some of the tripe the attention seekers post on here when they want to appear. "in the know"

Presumably the speedway media were there and the key points won't just be restricted to next Friday's match programme?

No doubt the "speedwáy media" A.K.A . Speedwáy Star will simply take something off the website as they always do then re-hash it as if it's something new. The clubs first duty is to its paying fans and it is right that those going through the turnstiles should be the first go get a summary of the meeting from the horses mouth (so to speak).

I don't think that's fair - quite often one of their reporters is in attendance.

Lol, if I was seeking attention I wouldn't be posting on a forum about a farcical sport that's followed by one man and his dog would I?

As it appeared that this was originally Len Silvers rumour, all it proves is that he knows nothing!

Was any comment made about Kent? Could they join the EL and take us up to a whopping 9 teams?

Kent aside - I would like to think there will be 9 or 10 teams in the EL next year anyway - which would make it the largest senior league in Europe!!!:wink:

Not sure what the standard will be though - depends to some extent what restrictions the Polish League place on their contracted riders?!

Why say specifically that it's common knowledge that Lakeside were moving to Kent when clearly they weren't ? That is clearly mischief making and gossip spreading.

It wasn't Len Silvers rumour. It was a comment of Len Silvers that someone posted on a forum completely out of context which gave completely the wrong impr, emission.

Well it was me who posted what Len Silver said, not completely out of context and had it confirmed as a possibility by the Lakeside Promotion at the time of me posting it. I don't hide behind a stupid made up name like E I ADDIO as I believe in posting what some supporters would like to know what is going on and should be made available for all to see. I applaud Jon Cook for having the balls to answer questions on Lakeside's future and put the record straight on Lakeside not moving to Kent. This now clearly contradicts Len Silver's answer to my direct question to him of Kent moving race night to a Friday in obvious competition to the Hammers and that question still remains.

But you didn't post what was going on. You posted what wasn't going on

Jon Cooks comment at the fans forum in November was that they were looking at a site close to the present location and had consulted a company that specialises in these things.. Nothing was said about moving to Kent. At the forum last week the position was still the same, i.e. that they were looking at a site close to the present locnation , not Kent. I don't know whether 83 year old Len Silver grasped the point you were making or whether something was lost in the question and answer between you but the fact remains that the Lakeside fans were told the same thing last week as they were told in November, except that in November he was cautiously optimistic, now he seems to have got Thurrock Council on board. Nothing has been acieved by spouting this all over the forum other than causing a lot of discontent among the fans who thought they were going to,lose their speedway. It's fine posting things that fans want to know about but it's easy to go off at half cock and get it wrong,

From day one and even before that it looked obvious to me that only four teams were ever going to challenge for the title this season and so far those four are still looking the most likely to be in the play offs so half the teams were in the Oh Well There's always next year bracket.

Regardless of who wins and who is holding an end of season dinner dance in August, I just hope next year they totally scrap the current race format and make it a more level playing field as the current format suits those with the best lower order riders far too much.

At the start of the season we had some great Grade A reserves in Blackbird, Garrity, Newman, Auty etc but they ride in the Premier League against the likes of Simon Stead, Richard Lawson, Daniel King and Nick Morris but in the Elite League they are protected from such riders and can score double figures in the EL without beaking sweat almost but in the PL they fight hard to score 6.

By all means protect the #7 to just reserves and second strings but the #6 needs testing more and the second strings also and bring it back to a team effort in winning matches rather than a few key riders having easier rides.

You thought about going on Mastermind? There are 8 teams in the league, it doesn't take a genius to work out that 4 will be challenging for the title and 4 will be in the Oh Well There's always next year bracket

Ever thought of reading properly and understanding the written word.

Poole - Coventry - Kings Lynn and Belle Vue were the four teams I tipped before the season and only the bad travels of the Aces has made me still think it will be those four in the end.

Wolves have a decent start in the table but apart from one away match against a poor Lakeside team, they have shown little away and with a defeat at home the top three look like clearing off into the distance and only ruthless changes to Wolves, Lakeside, Leicester and Swindon would in my opinion make them contenders to catch Belle Vue.

Agree with a lot of your post, however who would you change in the Swindon team as I personally think on paper they look really strong.
