ZODIAK
Good fight back in the closing heats to take a point! Plenty of spills by the sounds of things, was the track as tricky as it sounded? Edited May 10, 2015 by Hong Kong Phooey
dontforgetthefueltapsbruv
Happy with that given the general troubles and the worst possible start! A decent point in a glass half full world - a chance of a win spurned again in the half empty one!! Congrats to the Diamonds.
ZODIAK
Not a bad weekend really. Given ourselves a great chance to progress in the Cup and earned a hard fought point at Newcastle after having a terrible start in the first couple of heats. Must admit when I read on Updates that the Ipswich riders were unhappy with track conditions (again), I thought it would be another meeting where Tungate wouldn't turn up but to be fair to him he chipped in with vital points. Baldyman
If only some of you were there. Yes it's a point. And I suppose that's all that matters. Edited May 10, 2015 by baldyman

Tsunami
Far too flattering to me. Must have caught me on a good day. what's the drainage like on the bends Dave ???,,, it does seem problematic with the slight 'banking', yeah,,, The banking is the 'drainage'. ruffdiamond
Far too flattering to me. Must have caught me on a good day. You are far too modest, Dave ;-) The banking is the 'drainage'. so once at the bottom of the hill,,, there it lies ??? on the meeting,,, seemed to make hard work of that, good win all the same ,,,
Chewbacca
Enjoyed last night. Was always likely to be close. Good job for the Diamonds that the real Danny King only turned of for his last two races but lucky for the Witches that Lewis Kerr was a long way off 100% after being taken off by KIng in Heat 1. Steve Worrall and Christian Henry were very good for the Damonds (apart fromHenry being 'frightened off' his bike on turn 3 by someone coming up the inside line very quickly. Not the first time I've seen that.) And as soon as I'd said that Lewis Rose had not come on from last season, he pulled his finger out and put in 3 excellent rides to finish with. Hasn't Tungate got big elbows for such a little fella?

dantodan
Heat 1 was an absolute nightmare for Ipswich and Lewis Kerr. I award Leigh Lanham's riderless bike a perfect 10 for its gymnastic display. He reared and slipped off the back but his bike kept on going, did a handstand on top of the fence at full throttle, a 360 degree backflip onto the track where the back wheel at high revs gripped the track and it shot off in my direction but came to rest in the middle of the centre green. What a great idea cut out switches are Leighs should be taken back to the retailers and ask for his money back! Then Danny King got into trouble 1st and 2nd bend area in the re-start and pole axed his good friend Lewis Kerr. At around 40 minutes after our 6.30 start time we had a result for heat 1. It was a 5-0 for the innocent Diamonds duo of Lewis and Neilsen and as it turned out we needed that 5 points as that was our winning margin after 15 heats. Good riding by Steve Worrall and Christian Henry kept the diamonds in front. Christian often turns in a great score I am really pleased he was brought back into the 2015 side. Ludde was his usual self, missing the gate and battling away around the boards sometimes 4 heats of effort and little to show for it. If he ever learns to gate he will never be caught. Rosey had his best night so far, well done Lewis Apart from heat 1 I was entertained, the match was good but not great. On this showing I hope the witches come back later in the season as they were worth the admission money. The Argentinian Covatti looks to be a great prospect Edited May 11, 2015 by dantodan

The Argentinian Covatti looks to be a great prospect The handlebars snapped (completly sheared on the throttle side) therefore the cut-off didn't come out as it would do normally. On the downside, another meeting that lasted 2 and a half hours. Thankfully no sun delay, otherwise we could have been still there!
dantodan
Hi Steve, On my Newcastle Speedway History website I have a photo of Russ Dent (Newcastle 1960s and Sunderland 1970s) Russ is showing his bike broken in two, similar and probably worse than Leighs problem. Yeah 2.5 hours is too long and anyone there for their first time would be unlikely to want to come back. I did say to the guys around me the sun had come out and we might have another stoppage but thankfully the riders got on with the job. If the sun shines in my eyes in my car I just get on with it. You don't see a motorway with hundreds of cars on the hard shoulder because the sun is shining, do you!! nor do you get in in motor racing or superbikes etc. I am all for making speedway safer but I wonder about the sun affecting the riders! The entertainment level served up by both teams was very high. Ipswich will do well I think

diamond@heart
still doesn't make sense tho,,,, the cut out is attached to the machine and the wrist, so if man and machine become seperated by more than the length of the string, it should still work,,, it's not as if Leighs arm snapped off and it was still grasping the throttle,,, bizarre ??? I agree, if no connection exists then the bike should cut out. If the handlebars snapped, the cut out must still have come out as Leigh was not somersaulting down the centre green with the bike and neither was his arm, therefore the cut out must have been pull and the bike should have died, almost instantly. Out of interest, if a person had gotten injured through that incident, where would the buck have stopped, is the machine examiner, clerk of the course, the rider or no one. I'm not pointing fingers by the way just interested or is it a cause of if you are on the centre green you understand the risks and accept them? Incident nice quite as bad as this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Qtu8BiGIVA I thought the Diamonds were good and poor in equal measure last night, we had a good hold on the meeting and let Ippo back in for a point (fair game to them, never give up until the last heat). We kept moving off the line coming out of the fourth and a number of times Ippo riders nipped up the inside and frightened our riders off points (reminiscent of Matty Wethers 21 point max!!!). D King was pretty much as I expected, if he made the gate he won, if not forget it, similar to when he rode for us last year. Steve and Christian were very impressive and they look a good middle order partnership. Our reserves seem to be struggling at the moment and Nielsen seems to have a lack of confidence at home. Good to see Rose trying to solve a few issues after the meeting and Ludvig passing on his words of wisdom. All in all still a great win and onwards and upwards hopefully for the Diamonds and hoping Kerr will be back to his best again next week.
