mdmc82
I bet Lakeside are wishing they had booked Karlsson instead of Rory.

mdmc82
What happened in the last half of the meeting? Poole had a 16point league but ended up with a narrow win and taking 3pts. Shame Lakeside's fightback hadn't been sooner.

stevebrum
Oh dear, things just getting worse for the Hammers. Good to see two of the Wolves boys helping out our play off rivals for away points! Excellent night for the Pirates and PK and Lewis. Commiserations Hammers fans but it's looking like a decent team on paper isn't working on track and missing AJ is a huge loss. The Voice Of Reason
It could potentially have been a banker home win; had our promotion had the foresight to sign Lewis Blackbird from the outset. I see he's riding for Poole tomorrow. No prizes for guessing who I believe will be pivotal in the outcome of this meeting.( Hate to say "I told you so, but I................." Mr Vatcher, please do the honourable thing and resign. You haven't got a clue pal.
Falcon Hammer
We couldn't have Lewis Blackbird as Wolves, finishing lower than us, had next choice. The only rider we could of got was Charles Wright, before Swindon. Poole, Lynn & Coventry already had their 1st choice protected Our only choice was: Wright + 3rd pick Birks + Ellis Unfortunately Ashley hasn't kicked-on since his injury last year & it's tougher for Adam, with better riders in Tier 1 Can't really fault Vatcher for this, top teams got the top riders!
mdmc82
The main difference was the reserves. Even with Boxall replacing Ellis, I still stand by the statement I made at the start of the season. Lakeside easily have the weakest reserve pairing in the league. With riders like Newman, Garrity (although not sure Havvy knows) Blackbird, Auty and Kerr you always have the option to replace 1-5 rider in a race if they are struggling. I don't think Lakeside have a strong enough reserve to do so.

But as I alluded to in an earlier post, irrespective of the picking order, no doubt the promoters spoke beforehand; and there would have undoubtedly been one or two 'Gentleman's Agreements' prior to the selection process. I'm just surprised that Jon and Neil didn't choose Lewis Blackbird and put 'their mark' on him much sooner. Prior to injury, he was flying at Arlington; a track basically in Jon Cooks backyard. Plenty of opportunity therefore to assess the guys potential.
SteveLyric2
How to chuck away a point, by Poole Pirates. All part of the plan!!! Only one more away fixture at belle Vue before the June averages come out!! NB. Is that right that Lakeside's Jon Cook last night publicly announced a Fans Forum in the next couple of weeks to 'discuss' their season so far?!
WembleyLion
NB. Is that right that Lakeside's Jon Cook last night publicly announced a Fans Forum in the next couple of weeks to 'discuss' their season so far?! Yes that's right and a few other things to talk about as well, Also the End of Season Dinner Dance (or whatever it is) was mentioned (not by Jon Cook though), Seemed a bit early to be promoting this but given the circumstances perhaps not!

I don't think Lakeside have a strong enough reserve to do so. Which stil comes down to the fact that the system is deeply flawed partly because of the way the picks work and partly because of difference in ability of the riders in the top tier. If Lakeside had been able to get a rider like Blackbird or Garrity all it would mean is that some other club would have the problem Lakeside now have. Bottom line is that the disparity between the standard of riders is too great. Either you have have to close the gap by including riders like Ritchie Worrall, or perhaps, more sensibly riders such as Garrity and Blackbird who are now basically competent and experienced enough to stand on their own should be chopped off and lesser riders who need the experience should be included, which was really the original intention of the Fast Track scheme (apart from saving money)
marko
Maybe a forum on the clubs future is more important than assessing what's gone before? what are the intentions for 2016? If your going to do a Terry Russell on us then at least be honest about it, that way it gives time for prospective businessmen or maybe a fans group to come in and start a fresh maybe using the original Arena Essex moniker like what happened in 1996, if you want to move to Kent then fill your boots but if the stadium is still available you cannot surely object to someone else running an operation from there hopefully in the PL.
cityrebel
I would not blame cook for relocating to Central Park, because the facilities at arena are awful. Unless the raceway has been sold for redevelopment, I see no reason why speedway should not continue there. The fan base is big enough to support PL racing, the only problem on the horizon is if both tracks run on the same night.

This is the trouble, we had a fans forum last November and Cook was very frank about a number of things, including the clubs future and the future of the Raceway. We learned that he had come off the MC specifically to work full time on securing a home for the club and was negotiating with various agencies including the local council and Sport England who were both being very helpful. Every effort is being made to keep the location more or less where it is now. Unfortunately some of those who either couldn't attend or couldn't be bothered to attend decided that rumours are better than fact and we start hearing different pieces of gossip every week. Someone nwas telling me a couple of weeks ago them stadium had actually been sold but the people that rent the shops are saying they have it from the stadium owners that the stadium will be running in 2016, and they should know but the rumour mangers are not interested in that. One proposed development down the road has just had planning permission refused and needs to be re-submitted and there is not even a builders shovel at theRaceway yet. We have know for years that the stadium was under threat when the Thames Gateway development got going, and it's pretty obvious that the stadium buildings, thrown up in the '70's are more or less life expired so sooner or later something will have to be done, but people spreading rumours damage the club and the sport. It looks like a combination of "if's but's and maybe" at the moment and no doubt more will be revealed at the forum in a couple of weeks time, if the gossip mongers and soapbox merchants can contain themselves for that long. Thats a lot of words to say, "Lakeside speedway is a secret society". Why not actually tell people then there would be no need for rumours would there?
