Gazc
Probably including my pals from Plymouth There is a lot of nonsense talked about rain offs on this forum when no promotion calls a meeting off unless they have to. Quite simply, calling meetings off costs money. That is undoubtedly the case here but from what I can see someone has made a very poor decision that will do Glasgow speedway no good at all. Blobby has a point. I totally agree as i stated in my opening post on this occasion he has a point and it is poor PR hopefully they can learn from this and make the call a lot earlier as they did last week as this was never going to run the amount off rain that has fallen and still is has been pretty much non stop Hopefully your pals can get back up for the re-staging if it ever stop's raining that is. Quite simply, calling meetings off costs money. That is undoubtedly the case here but from what I can see someone has made a very poor decision that will do Glasgow speedway no good at all. That's the point, Glasgow are for now anyway, not short of a few bob and didn't need to get this meeting on as if a rematch would cost more i.e. paying Plymouth travel expenses all the way rather than just from Worky last night. The only angle I can see is that we haven't had a competitive home meeting for 4 weeks and the riders need the practice before the Sky match however that also isn't applicable as the double uppers of Lawson, Sarjeant and Morris have been riding all over the place during that time so aren't race rusty. Summers has had a guest appearance and Victor is riding in Sweden. So I don't get it, why did it have to be on regardless. The new owners have brought professionalism to Glasgow that previously we never had, however today's debacle has returned us back to that, inconvenienced their own fans and damaged their reputation. The process of accountability must begin internally to find out what happened, who made the decision, why they made the decision and how we ensure it never happens again. Hopefully! Mr Blobby
Understand referee only arrived at 1.30, and after doing a track inspection deemed the track unfit and he had also asked why he was not called during the morning to. Do track inspection Correct Mr Mcgregor just commented on facebook to say that arrived 2 hours before the start time. He then went on to say that was as shocked as anyone that he didn't get a call earlier to come and check the track. When he did inspect the track he started sliding down the banking on the third and fourth bends and nearly fell on his backside.

Joseq7
PR disaster. Last night, or this morning, the promotion might conceivably have thought that this meeting might have started but it would never have finished. Meteorology may not be an exact science, especially in Scotland, but gings crivens help ma boab this was wanton blind faith. That would have moved a lot of the water then better than any track grading i can think off.

MD
Why? It's good referees justify their actions. It should be publicly available information anyway. Most sports offer transparency just not ours.

Im not a lover of Mr McGregor but imo he should be commended for keeping people informed. If more people within speedway did the same in an open and honest manner then speedway would not be in anywhere near as bad a state as it is now

baba
I worked saturday night and it rained from 10pm to when I finished at 8am I didnt bother setting alarm for 1 to get up and go to ashfield cause I knew it would be off. The comments on facebook are quite harsh and frank towards the promotion. It was a mistake they should learn from but the weathers a pain in the butt. It was a mistake they should learn from but the weathers a pain in the butt. From afar it looks like your ptomotion have messed up. But from my same seat it looks like every time they have been criticized this season they have acted on it - we all make mistakes, it's how we handle them and learn from them that is important. If this turns out to be the worst thing the new Glasgow promotion have done by October they won't have had a bad first season in charge! tyretrax
I agree with you on the learning curve for the Facennas Gaz, but there is plenty of experience on the promotion side. Edited May 11, 2015 by tyretrax

In the Sheffield programme notes there is an apology from the promotion for anyone who made a wasted trip to the meeting. It acknowledges there's a fine line between declaring a meeting on or off, advising this time they got it wrong. Good on them. I'm totally with you that they do act on criticism and have the confidence they will do so. Just hope when in future they call off a meeting and the weather turns out OK 5 mins after due start time, folks remember why they did so.
