Rye House V Somerset 3/5/15

As no one has really commented on the match, here goes.

Unfortunately, for those home fans that stayed on for the 2nd sixth, the first match was overshadowed by later events. I fully expected to see 2 losses on the day so was pleasantly surprised by the result. Highlights for me were Ed's brutal 1st heat re-run 2nd bend where he seemed to be trying to ride both Rebels' bikes on his way through, and Kasper's efforts all through the meeting. Next match we edge closer to a full team with the birth of Robin's son now confirmed.

The only way around it is to run the rockets on Saturdays and the raiders on Sundays. Unless a discounted double ticket was sold, I doubt that many fans would attend both meetings.

Alternatively, if Warren can keep Len clear of track prep, I reckon double-headers would be fine

For Rye a cracking guest in Steve Worrell who definitely scored more than Boxall would have, and being able to have every rider bar Kennett as R/R was a plus all round. My first sight of Jakobsen and he looked quite tasty, his best moment was heat 13 when he got past Brady to secure a 5-1 behind the impressive Kennett. With the exception of Mellgren who was still feeling the effects of his tumble at the OTA and Greenwood the Rockets look quite solid and will take some stopping at home I feel, however a quick look at the scorers shows R/R for Aspergen gleaned paid 10 and as previously stated paid 13 for Boxall`s guest Worrall. Considering the Rebels didn`t get any advantage from their tactical to lose by just 8 was not a bad effort.

For the Rebels it was a game of 2 halves, poor in the first half, much better in the second. Every Rebel had at least one good moment which kept it close. Brady continues to impress whenever I see him, he was beaten up at the second running of the first heat after a good start in the first when Kennett came down taking Brady with him. Ritchie finished with two paid wins and Charlie beat the impressive Steve Worrall in heat 14 and had Starkes steel shoe not come off when the Rebels were on a comfortable 5-1 the Rebs may have nicked a point.

Good to meet up with the Somerset chaps as usual and Sid but off course missed Shads, hope you are enjoying your holiday.

Loving it Cliff, but I've gotta admit I'm missing my speedway fix. Blame the missus for getting preggers in February last year, a few weeks after we'd booked this holiday for November. We had to rebook for May.

rye house will never move forward until it is the deal.

But I thought that the deal with the new owner was for Len to look after things, the team and the track prep.

What happened when the track was originally laid? When we first returned to Rye it was laid over the existing tarmac and taken up every week. If it was simply laid over the tarmac and more shale added to it over the years since Len purchased the stadium perhaps the base surface is now breaking up and causing a problem? Expensive business completely relaying a track I'd imagine but perhaps this is the best way forward.

OK then, I get that Len is needed as the experienced promoter for a year but surely that doesn't mean he has to be the track man? Why not just let him "promote" (ahem!!!) and leave someone else to team manage and prepare the track.

As far as I'm aware the old Tarmac base is about 6 inches below the track. Digging up and relaying completely is probably not an option on grounds of cost alone.

Seems Len oversees track prep at PL & Andrew at NL. Problem is when there are double headers. Think we need it to be independent

It probably seemed a good idea at the time of the takeover, to someone new to the business, to split the work load. As we've since found out, one side is prepared to cooperate, the other not so. Not really a surprise to those that are aware of events following the reintroduction of speedway to the stadium.
