Shale Searcher
Off top of my head he only did a season with us. It was the first time the British League (Elite now) was saved by merging it with the then National League (Premier now). Ronnie Correy was not overly successful at Station Road from memory in that season he was with us, but I think he had just overcome a serious injury. I think that same season Sudden Sam's brother did a year with us and was not overly successful either. Brent Werner did do a few seasons and started poor got much better each season. In the latter days Jan Staechmann, then Carl Stonehewer and at various times Carl Blackbird, Martin Dixon and Steve Johnston, Rickard Hellsen and Paul Lee were the stars in those final few seasons. In that last 2/3 seasons we won the Fours and Best Pairs and came close to the League title again on a couple of consecutive seasons. And don't forget Nigel D'eath!! I sponsored him with a tyre for the reward of a go in the mechanics race, I wore Nigels leathers, but Nigels bike developed a problem so I went out on Mark Blackbirds bike instead, ohhh the memories, top notch!! Was that late 80s? I remember he was flying one season, scoring maximums for fun everywhere he rode then had a really bad crash one night (I think maybe at Oxford) and he was not quite the same after that. Brummiestormer
What I would give to see them one day come back to ride in the EL. While i wish Long Eaton would return---why on earth would you wish them in the EL!!
Agrotron
There is a whole host of clubs I would like to see back in Speedway but the reality is they won't, its sad to think of the many clubs that have demised over the years.

TeamBouchard
Speedway for me certainly hasn't been the same since the opportunity to go to Station Road on a regular basis disappeared. Some fabulous memories and great personalities (irrespective of points-scoring ability) in abundance over the years. While we are talking Long Eaton, I have a small but steadily growing collection of Long Eaton memorabilia and I'm always interested in adding to it, particularly race jackets and the like, so if you have anything to dispose of, please message me. Thank you.
mrlincolncity
I have fond memories of Long Eaton, not just speedway but the stock cars as well. Standing on what youd call bend 2 for the speedway but for the stock cars as a kid, playing in the bit of sand where the dog racing traps were kept, always remember the power stations red lights over the back of the main stand. Attended the stock cars regularly in the early 80s, and a bit of speedway if boston were in town. Remember Dave Perks, and of course Dave Blackburn who also did a season or 2 at Boston. Was decent racing as well from what i remember, but then again it was ALL decent racing back then! I used to drive past the back of the stadium to the local asda in my lorry to deliver 4/5 years ago, was still a derelict site then. Took em long enough didnt it! Another track gone forever. Sad times

Shale Searcher
Fond memories for me too from Long Eaton, initially to see the Leicester Lions remix side, Les with his beard!! Got really into speeedway again through those meetings, became a LE regular, was the Long Eaton Supporters Club vice president for a season, produced a A5 magazine briefly, we called it the Supporters Shout!! Anyone out there got a copy of the 2, or maybe 3 of the issues produced...? It was on salmon, white and blue copy paper, typed and photo copied, with a page dedicated to Lions fans who had taken Long Eaton to heart. I reckon there was at least 150/200 who regularly made the trip to home meetings; the page was called "Down the M1" if I remember correctly!! Also, organsided and drove hired mini busses for the away trips, especially enjoyed the "FOURS" trips to the Showground..... Happy Days, and undoubtedly some fantastic speedway, and great new speedway friends!!!

Tsunami
Is someone having me on or did Rob Tilbury go on into the hardcore porno industry? I see that no one has replied to your query PO. I do seem to remember that someone alluded to it a few years ago on the BSF. Hope someone does reply as I would also like to know as well. Grand Central
Is someone having me on or did Rob Tilbury go on into the hardcore porno industry? I think someone rather mockingly said that he looked as if he COULD have been a seventies porn star. Just the hair and moustache were the giveaway signs. Surely the Private Shops in Byker or Boldon used to stock that 'sort' of Mag. Back in the day.
