An insult to the memory of Peter Craven, his family and the 5,000 fans in the stadium.

And why did the riders take part in the parade knowing they were' going to take the action they eventually did?

Who was the rider who jumped up on the microphone? Couldn't see who he was from the back straight or hear a word he said because of the jeers. What did he say?

What a farce tonight was. I'm £250 pounds out of pocket for making the trip. As impressive as the stadium is the facilities for that amount of people was woeful. The way fans were left in the lurch as to what was going on was shameful. Why were fans made to wait for so long before being informed as to what was going on? Why were there three bar staff in one bar that had one pump for the entire back straight? Why was there one burger van and one coffee van to cover the same area? Why was the announcement system totally unintelligible on the back straight? Teething problems, sure but, most important question to come: WAS THE TRACK NOT TESTED DURING THE WEEK?? Feel sorry for all who attended, the promotion (honestly - they wouldn't have wanted this - they're not sadomasochists!), the riders and British speedway - for which this was a terrible advert...

Chris Harris came to the mike and while he said you can't blame the management he also made it clear that the track on the third and fourth bends were unrideable and said they have been trying to sort it over the last week or so.

Chris Norton had earlier said it way three or four weeks ago they started to know there was a problem there. Norton had said it's nothing they could do about it and it was the riders that didn't want to ride.

This is why I think Bomber cane out and while trying to defend the management he also made it clear that the track was not ready to race on.

Forget anything to do with the weather this is more bad track work and materials. It was not wet or frozen but simply not bonding and acting like a sand pit which is obviously not safe to race on.

From the shale that got sprayed into the crowd it contained quite a bit of little stones and looked like it could have done with more clay base like the materials used at Wolverhampton and Edinburgh .... multi winning tracks of the year done brilliantly by Doc Bridget.

Belle Vue have always had poor track surfaces and I would like to see Doc come down and give his assessment of the work done by Colin Meredith and the track crew.

No excuses or blame on the riders just needs to be laid correctly and Glyn Taylor is another who could give his opinion.

I can't believe what I am reading! Having read various other threads, and I'm sure that there are others better informed than myself, but was the meeting cancelled due to poor track preparation? If so what a complete farce and yet another example why speedway is in the state that it is. What should have been a showpiece event (presumably with all the media present) ends up with the sport, again, shooting itself in the foot!

I await with more informed comments hoping that my comments are an over reaction to events in Manchester.

It was a great pity what happened yesterday and I am sure that no one feels worse than Chris Morton ,I have seen him grow from the Ellesmere Port team of the early 70's into one of the greatest riders this country has ever produced .Upon retirement he has set out to create one of the best tracks this country has ever seen ,he has achieved that and what happened yesterday a tragic to say the least. I am not a track expert or rider and we have to accept that racing was unable to take place but I repeat what a fantastic venue for speedway and I will return in the future .

Imo I think time was against them and they did their best to get it on sadly it backfired big style

Sorry, this has to be down to the management, they must have known on Friday that the track wasn't fit to race on. Myself and many other fans have travelled from all over the country to see the opening meeting and with complete disregard for this, Belle Vue management have adopted an 'It'll be alright on the night' attitude and havepresided over a complete farce in a half completed stadium (the car parks for season ticket holders were full of portakabins instead of cars, the ladies toilets on the south side had no water or toilet paper) The track was a joke and the south terracing looks like it was constructed out of Meccano and linoleum offcuts. So, a weekend wasted and fuel, hotel and food expenses for nothing! Thank you to the management team for the grandfather of all foul ups! I will not return. Even the Belle Vue supporters around us were embarrassed. I feel sorry for the fans from Edinburgh and Poole in particular.
