National Speedway Stadium Opening Tickets Now On Sale

If people are moaning about Manchester not be central enough for all, what about the football and England playing in LONDON, that is pretty bang in the middle for everyone in England!!

London is the capital of the country, and football internationals and cup finals have historically almost always been played there (even in the pre-Wembley era). By contrast, London does not have a single speedway track, nor has staged a World Final for nearly 40 years.

I've personally no problem with Manchester staging major meetings, but let's not argue it's centrally located speedway-wise.

Also the World Cup events have always been hosted in the South, like King's Lynn, Poole, Reading, Eastbourne, Swindon. The only time it came North was in 2001, when Sheffield hosted an event and besides that was Coventry. For me Wolves would have been a better venue for fans for the World Cup, as i think it is the fairest and best track in the league.

Yes, because FIM events have to be on FIM licensed circuits, and as far as I know there are virtually none in the north. I seem to remember that Quirky Lane was at one point but let it lapse, but I think Sheffield is only other northern circuit that ever was.

I'm a bit lost, what the bloody hell as geography got to do with the National Stadium ?

Nothing, but someone was arguing it was geographically central, which it isn't speedway wise.

I think it's great that a purpose built speedway stadium is being funded, and I hope it will be used for many major meetings. On what basis is it a 'national stadium' though beyond its own self-promotion?

As the crow flies Manchester to Edinburgh is approx 180 miles North. Manchester to Poole is the same to the South. Manchester to Ipswich the same to the East and Somerset slightly less to the West (I know Plymouth is a bit further) That seems pretty darn central speedway wise to me

I don't agree.

The new Stadium will be used, as I understand it, for training Riders. Those Riders will come from all parts of the United Kingdom, not just Manchester and surrounding area, so in that sense it is a National Stadium.

It will also be the best Speedway Stadium in the Country by a country mile.

Ergo I believe it has the absolute right to be called the National Stadium.

I wonder if jealousy and envy has more to do with the barbed comments about the new Stadium being styled the National Speedway Stadium.

The national speedway stadium name has the backing of the Bspa, so hardly self promotion. It will most probably host the 2016 world cup final and don't count out a future GP.

Hosting these events at the "National Stadium" implies revenue well be shared among all clubs. Will this be the case or will it all go to Belle Vue?

The World Cup is a BSI promoted event, any profit is neither Belle Vue's or the BSPA. The Aces should get a rental fee and some nice bar and food takings

World Cup is promoted by BSI. Profits will be theirs

Any British Final, ELRC, PLRC etc are BSPA shared events and will have the same shareout rules as they would at any other track.

Belle Vue matches will be promoted by the BV promoters. profits wil be theirs.

How does that make it a national stadium any more than any other training track?

That remains to be seen, and depends on how you define the 'best'. You'd certainly expect it to be the least decrepit speedway stadium, but looking at the pictures it doesn't seem as well appointed or as big as some other speedway stadiums.

What is there to be jealous about? Good luck to Belle Vue and very happy if there's a recognised venue for major speedway meetings in Britain.

Doesn't change the fact it's nothing more than a marketing exercise though.

Berwick, obtained a 3 year license in 2012. Under current circumstances, it may also have lapsed ; but they did at least get the GPQ, and World U21s out of it. The standard of racing at the World U21s was incredible ... might watch the DVD again tonight :)

I`m not sure that`s true. Yes it`s a BSI/IMG event but I don`t believe that all meetings- 1st 2 rounds, race-off and final are " BSI meetings" I would have thought for instance Kings Lynn pay a staging fee and they in turn receive income from entrance/programme/catering etc. I could be wrong.

BSI do a wide range of deals ... they could simply rent the facility or engage in a joint operation

Not many (if any) of which seem to benefit grass roots Speedway.

SWC I agree with, but as long as Cardiff is hosting a SGP I cant see another one in this Country.

Cardiff not in this country?.........(point taken though).....on the swc final front, it would be fantastic at belle vue, but can anybody see England (gb), seeded direct to the final? it wouldn't be right for a team outside the previous years final surely?
