The 2015 National League season begins at Hi-Edge this Sunday 26th April with the visit of last season’s runners-up Coventry Storm.

Storm who are amongst this season’s title favourites will prove a stern test for the home side and include ex-Hitman Stefan Farnaby amongst their number.

Manager Jason Pipe is under no illusion how tough his debut could be but feels it is a challenge his riders are up for ‘This Sunday is going to be a tough start for the lads, but I believe we are capable of beating one of the title favourites, if they all race to their capabilities. This is a very good test for us to start our league season’

Pipe however was keen to stress the learning curve his charges were now on ‘After a late start to the season we now go in to these 5 meetings in 2 weeks, which should give us a good idea to how we are going to shape up as a team this season. I will learn a lot about my riders over these next couple of weeks.’

He will however have cope without promising reserve Paul Bowen who has broken a collarbone.

Bowen is understandably upset by the news ‘After coming off the bike last Tuesday and being told come back to the fracture clinic on Wednesday, turns out I've fractured my collarbone. The consultant said 4 weeks recovery I’m gutted not be able to ride my first national league match this weekend’

The club have acted quickly in finding a short term replacement for Bowen with David Holt coming in as cover for the next few meetings.

Pipe was philosophical at the loss of Bowen ‘Agreement has been reached with David Holt, who will come in and cover for Paul Bowen in the next 3 meetings, starting on Sunday at home to Coventry. Paul has a hairline fracture near to the sternum, after crashing in a recent practice session at Buxton. He was hoping to test his shoulder next week with a view to riding again next weekend, but I've told him to not rush back and get himself fixed properly first. Being based in Chorley, he's arranged to go in to an oxygen chamber in Morecambe, to help with the healing process. It's hoped that Paul can return for our away trip to local rivals Stoke on Saturday 9th May. We will assess the situation nearer the time and need to see him back on a bike first before I'm confident and he is, of him returning to the side.

He welcomed David Holt to Hi-Edge ‘I'd like to welcome David to Buxton and thank him for stepping in to help the club out. Going on his previous scores in the MDL around Buxton, I'm hopeful of him coming into side and scoring a few points, especially when we need them over the next couple of Sunday's against Coventry & Cradley!’

The meeting at Hi-Edge Raceway begins at 3.00pm.

I have been critical of Buxton in the past but I thought this was a decent meeting :approve: and will come back for more.

The track seemed ok to me although Ryan Blacklock described it as 'tricky' and there was some entertaining racing.

The presentation, too, has improved.

Finally, all credit to Graham Flint for keeping the meeting moving. 16 races in around 90 minutes is how things should be but very often are not.
