Workington V Edinburgh 25/04/15 19:00hrs (lc)

His bias blame game is shocking these days :)... Seriously though he makes all the excuses up in the book, yet never says Worky rode well or congrats... Pathetic really.

Least you show your face on here after a defeat, Dekker and blobby are normally all over the place like a rash when youve won, hope they are ok :)

Totally agree.

Real fans are the ones that come on and take a defeat as it shoud be taken. Those who only gloat when they win but cant accept defeat are quite sad really

Congrats Worky better from tapes consistently Howarth looks to be improving and realizing his talent and Greaves rode a smashing blocking ride in his 5_1.

Cookie trapping remains hit and miss,Sam sublime Sedgy a welcome surprise and young Erik looked happy on a track that suits his style.

Best team won..let's move on we can return at end on May and win with Kevin back but we need to gate better.

Hope Rusty recovers quickly looked a bad spill from stand and air fence helped but damage done when coming down I guess.

Nice chocolate and Bovril too!!!

Don't worry chaps blobby is fine and well.

Now onto the bit on the website about making excuses it was more of a dig at the Germans than anything else.

Onto the meeting of wolbert was riding we probably would of got something last night. Cook also having one of his worst meeting in Edinburgh colours that I can remember for a good couple of years didn't exactly help either.

On the positive side though good to sedgy back scoring big points again away from home and a massive well done to Erik Riss paid 7 at worky on your first time there is a fantastic achievement.

We should still finish top of the group anyway even if worky pick up maximum points home and away against the bandits they need to beat them by about 60 over the two matches to go top.

Chocolate and Bovril?

Not sure that combo will catch on.

Very sorry to hear about Rusty - hope he is on the mend soon.

Good win for worky but not a huge surprise.

Hopefully won't have any impact on us qualifying.

Lot of learning taking place with our bottom 3.

Onwards and upwards.

Incorrect as far as regards me but don't let little thing like facts stop your little digging expedition.

I think there are two reasons why not many supporters have been on here, firstly it was quite a good win and there isn't much to moan about and secondly the injury to Rusty totally overshadowed the evening.

Rusty's crash looked terrible from where we were sat in the grandstand, I really hope he makes a full recovery and can ride again this year, it would be such a sad way for his British career to end. He's a Comets legend and lovely guy and an adopted Marra.

As for the meeting I thought there were plenty of positives for us, Kenneth looked better on his new engines and Kyle continues to impress, he is maturing into the rider we hoped he'd be last year, I'm glad I was wrong on that one, well done also to Nathan for beating Sedgman to a paid win.

As for Edinburgh I'm glad they got beat as some of the pre meeting comments on here were unnecessary and showed a lack of respect to the lady who saved your beloved Monarchs 2 years ago.

Lastly, anyone know why they put a rope out to block riders taking a short cut to the start line? Seemed odd

good post, it did look awful from the stand and the length of time the smaller ambulance stayed on the track stayed on the track rather than going to the pits as they normally do to wait for the County one made it worse. It's bad enough, just glad it's not worse. Nathan's ride was great and deserved the biggest cheer of the night. Edited by comet49

Good win for the Comets, a couple of decent races/passes on a very dry and slick track.

Maybe just as well Cookie wasn't on his best form but, you can only beat what's in front of you and to that extent I thought we rode pretty well as a team, good even spread of pts scoring with everyone getting at least a paid win for their trouble!! :t:

First view of the full team in action tonight and yes, it does look a bit weak in certain areas but we should be able to get in amongst it with most of the PL this year, not too sure about the away form tho at this time, not been very good so far but, you never know, opportunity is there to pick up over the season!!

Very disappointing news on Rusty tho, that's gonna put him out for a while but, best wishes for a full recovery young man, best wishes!!

As for the missing supporters Gr8scot, incidents like last night's crash for Rusty doesn't help, no communication with the crowd, "again" as to what was happening, was the meeting going to end there or carry on, was the race previous going to be re run, "how is the guy"!!! yes, we finally got something over an hour later saying the Doctor had wanted quiet to monitor Rusty properly, so why not just put everyone in the picture at that initial point and say, we want as much quiet as possible due to the nature of the injury so you wont hear anything else until further notice, then, everyone knows "why" we are where we are, a few seconds to update and the job's good?

After a while, half the crowd just walked out expecting that to be the finish and it certainly was looking that way? Add in the processional racing, rain offs, entry fees, lack of major successes etc, and it's very clear why no one supports the Comets anymore in the numbers we once had, RL/Football clubs are the same, we just fall out of love with sport in favour of cheaper forms of entertainment at the drop of a hat, to be fair, you could be successful and still have no crowd down here, fickle doesn't come close, then again, the part time job culture so prevalent down this way doesn't do much for the disposable income either?

Its obvious why they stopped the riders going straight to the tapes instead of going around the track.

I've been told there was a suspicion of a little cheating going on earlier in the meeting with certain riders making very good starts !!!!

feel sorry for edinburgh tonight.,if wolbert had ridden , the moanarchs would have most certainly beaten one of the worst teams in the P.L. but two kevs wasnt available so tough. the crop team won and the mugs didnt.HOPE RUSTY IS OK, COLLAPSED LUNG .get well soon.just had a laugh at mr hunters report on the edinburgh w/site. thought i was reading the beano.. if this if that.

I've just read that report. Such a bit bunch of bad losers never congratulate the other team. Loads of excuses when they get beat yet the other team is never allowed any! Still at least Cook flew round his old track.......oh wait a sec.

His bias blame game is shocking these days :)... Seriously though he makes all the excuses up in the book, yet never says Worky rode well or congrats... Pathetic really.

I really don't understand any of this. The report is on the Edinburgh speedway website it is 100% from an Edinburgh perspective talks in general about the match and then specifically about issues related to Edinburgh and the performance of Edinburgh riders. That is exactly what I would expect, at no point does it say we should have won or Workington were lucky. I read it as we were understrength a couple of or riders under performed but with encouragement over the performance of Erik and Justin but the result was fair.

There are only two ifs.

1. If Kevin would have been riding we would have got a point, that seems fair enough and has been stated by several others on this thread. BTW it doesn't say we would have won with Kevin.

2. If Workington get two big wins they will finish top of the group and we will be left to wait and see if we qualify as best runner up. This is factually correct but the report actually makes it sound a lot more viable than it is, it will take a phenomenal effort from Workington to turn around the points difference and I don't think it will happen.

The main theme was frustration that Kevin was missing and a determination to not allow that to happen again, this was self inflicted and accepted. Workington were solid and deserved to win, Edinburgh kept it close enough to ensure they finished above Glasgow which almost certainly puts us into the semi final.

Best of luck to rusty sounds a really bad one and i hope he makes a quick recovery.

The rest is just nit picking a report on the Edinburgh website and all it does is emphasise your envy and dislike for the monarchs. We're doing OK, thanks for your concern and I hope you have plenty more to moan about this season as it means we are going well x

Have to agree Scotchopper..somehow i don't think it would make any difference what Mike said in his report to be honest, the usual suspects and the same old anti-Monarchs pish i'm afraid :nono: Aye..jealousy is a terrible thing right enough..dearo dear!Monarchs may well have got a point if Kevin was riding as he's started the season well, but he didnt so we'll never know. The Comets deserved their win but it's hardly the end the end of the world so we'll move on.Putting all that crap aside the most important thing about last night is that Rusty is going to be ok..sounded like it was an awful crash..get well soon Rusty :t:
