SCB
Agree with that. It would also have freed Adam up to possibly ride for the Panthers, which would have been a great move for him imo..Exactly, you now have Adam who doesn't like the track and can't ride PL because of the race night so probably hates being at Lakeside for two reasons. Would be great for him if he got the sack - he's get a PL place and many other EL clubs would want him too. E I Addio
Adam Ellis as number 7 despite knowing he wasn't happy at the club/with the track and wanted away, e. Do you have a link to confirm that or is it something you just dreamed up ?
SCB
Do you have a link to confirm that or is it something you just dreamed up ? Nothing other that rumour that was going around at the end of last year/in the winter. But as posted above, he has no problems being at Lakeside so it's not true. E I Addio
It's alight moaning about the track but the top 5 all did there job (plsu some) the issue is at reserve. . It basically highlights the farce that basically good idea of the FTDR has degenerated into. Lewis Backbird for example has been graded into the fast track yet he is of such high calibre he was being wheeled out to replace the Heatleaders riding at No3 and No 5. Yet he wiil spend the whole season without being promoted to the 1-5 whatever his average. That is not what the FTDR was originally designed for. It's very difficult to see a case for riders like Blackbird, Newman and Garrity to not be going up into the top five. That is before we get on to the ridiculousness of the pick where, for example the team who should have had first pick finished up with fifth pick as I recall.

I agree, there has to be a point of progression and there should be a set minimum period they can stay FTR'S, particularly the top graded riders. Next year I would like to see the likes of Garrity, Blackbird, Newman being moved into the main body of the team. It's the only way they will progress IMHO.
weatherwatcher
I think the only thing they can do is put Garrity etc. into the main body of the teams. I thought that they would have given them that chance this seson, instead of holding them back, to ride as a reserve agin this year. If they stay as they are for another year then there is no way that these lads are going to get any further , than they are now, then we will be seeing a bunch of young talented British riders, following along in the same mould has quite a few British ridefrs in the past, who would have gone on to better things if only they had been given the chance. There are around 6 or 7 young British lads who deserve a full team place, but it seems that the promoters will not take the risk. Shame on them, these lads are the future of British speedway and the future of the British team squad.

waiheke1
Tbh I think the strongest rr reserves this year means those riders are getting tougher heats than last year anyway, without diluting the standard of el. And if having a good night they can replace second strings anyway. Can't think of any decent Brits except possibly richie worrall, without an el team place. Personally next year I would like the rule to be three Brits minimum, inc two who are elegible for ftr. Revert to 1990 BL format and allow for riders to progress to top 5 slots during season if their average warrants it.

I follow Ellis quite a lot and really rate him. I read on the panthers thread that he turned down a place there after the injury of roynon as it would have meant dropping the Brummies in the poo one week before the start of the season. ( a rare showing of loyalty that's sadly lacking these days) I was gutted as is have been able to see him every week. As for lacking ambition ? I read that he rode in an international meeting in Germany on Sunday so he's certainly putting himself out there.
CB252
One of the biggest obstacles to British rider progression in the UK leagues is the way in which the Premier League conducts its business. It should be compulsory for every team to have two Brits occupying the reserve berths.

I disagree. It's still barely 3 years since Adam first sat on a Speedwáy bike. In the EL he has to face EDR riders like Lewis Blackbird and Josh Auty who are vastly more experienced. Adam has undoubted talent in terms of motor cycle skills but his lack of race experience stands out like a sore thumb at times especially against more experienced riders. Riding at No1 for Brum will help his confidence and riding at No6 for Lakeside will still give him the chance to compete with more ex perinced riders. Speedwáy is a confidence sport and Adam still has a lot to learn. It will no doubt come in time but there is such a thing as pushing a rider too far to soon. He is still only 18 and has time on his side.

marko
The problem for riders like Adam is that in the FTR positions many will go out and spend a lot on getting fast bikes and ultimately push themselves on the track to speeds which are often not in tune to their current ability which can result in falls and subsequent injuries to them and possibly others. Both last season and this, Adam has spent a fair amount of time parting company with this bike at Lakeside, he will be a very polished rider one day but you have to learn to walk before you can run.
