Wolves V Lakeside Mon 20th April

Recommended Posts

Techincally your right, but its not their fault Boxall was injured prior to his first official meeting.

But it's never a clubs fault if a rider gets injured before his first meeting. Was it Coventrys fault in 2010 when Pawlickis debut was rained off and in the next meeting he was missing for a Polish U21 meeting and Coventry had to use a junior in his place?

They reverted back to their original 1-7 beating Birks was in the team. As Birks was not riding PL he should have been riding. As he was not riding PL then no facility is allowed. As Coventry found out last year when they could not get a single rider on the draft to agree to ride, when you have no facility you have to go with a blank.

After the farce of the GP on Saturday thank god for some proper racing on a proper track. Gate 4 is becoming an issue for the 2nd match running, but at least the entertainment factor is back in the sport. Yet again our gating was dire from the off. Lakeside clearly came expecting points and it looked like that was going to happen. As expected however they fell well away and the travelling lakeside I expected turned up.

For wolves

FRED - his first 3 rides he looked woefully slow and gate 4 in heat 1 is proving a graveyard. 2.5/5

RICKY - so quick and fast thinking. 5/5 MOTM

TOBBY - is learning quickly and looks so stylish on the bike. Definitely a grower. 3/5

PK - proving it was All about the silencers last year the real PK is back. The only blip was being out battled by Lawson in the only race he didn't win. 4.5/5

JACOB - after a 1st race stormer he seemed to lose confidence on the opening bends. 1.5/5

LEWIS - started slowly but showed why he was one of the best FTR's from last season in the 2nd half of the match. 4/5

JOSH - dreadful, however PA stated he shouldn't have ridden so we can forgive him. 0/5

Lakeside MOTM had to be Adam Ellis. So quick out the gate. Should have been a match winner if the 1-5 turned up for the 2nd half.

Watched the replay on TV and for the the first time ever I think it was actually better watching on TV than being their live.At the track the racing didn't seem up to much, the atmosphere non existent and now to top it off we have Peter York in residence. The group I stand with even questioned this week if we should all meet up and do something else on a Monday night as the main reason we come is to meet up and socialise,I can't ask the others in the group as they stopped coming a long time ago.Credit to Sky it looked ok on the TV helped along with Pearson positivity although maybe he overdoes it telling us how great it is every five minutes.

Peter York?

Seriously?

Another indication the promoters are seriously losing their way. How are you going to attract any form of younger audience with Peter York presenting?

Personally I'd want an announcer who knows his stuff and is able to connect with the terraces. If he's 21, fine. If he's 75, also fine. But what does one do when the 75 year old bucks the kicket? Sooner or later they'll run out of living options.

You can't win with some speedway fans. Belle Vue had a new trackside announcer on Monday and some fans were on his back straightaway. Perhaps they forget that most people starting a new job need time to settle in. Time will tell if he is any good but not immediately after his first match.

I saw Peter York at the Wolves, Belle Vue match but assumed he was just standing in.

Thought the racing was okay tbh. How can you tell how the atmosphere was over the telly?

As for Peter York, he stands in for porkie not is in residence. I'm not sure I can cope with him every week.

Enjoyed last night's meeting - it wasn't the greatest but had enough in it to keep me interested..

If only Sky could deliver similar week in and week out...

Anyway, it was much better than that shambles in Warsaw on Saturday.

BTW, I have to agree with BWitcher, the poor track and lack of starting gate didn't call for a walk out by the riders..

I would be most interested to hear Bomber's views on this..

It would have been similar to the character played by Henry Fonda in the film '12 angry men.' He was the only juror who considered the accused (track) not guilty.

A terrible presenter remember him at Oxford in the Nielsen days, remember him commentating on the last lap of a race really annoying is he not a pensioner ? or is it a job for one of the boys.!!

He's not so bad these days as he doesn't commentate on the last lap (or two) of races. I've got quite used to him at Coventry this season with David Hammond in the commentary box.

Well, he's given his views now and agrees with the meeting being stopped, but he would say that wouldn't he?

Of course all the riders are going to stick to their story now.

Hence the meeting lasting an hour until they all agreed to do so :)
