Lewis Rose Newcastle are not the strongest looking side in the PL but are a team capable of a 3-3 in every heat. A good match in prospect with the result difficult to forecast. The Diamonds will be unpredictable but so will the home team. As a Newcastle man asked for a prediction I will always go for my team but maybe our lack of a proven number 1 will find us wanting against David Howe and Josh Auty in heats 13 and 15. Newcastles main pair are Lewis Kerr and Anton Rosen if Scunthorpe cannot stop them then Newcastle could win. If Lewis and Anton are stopped by Scunthorpe then it will be a home win. lucifer sam
FRIDAY NIGHT IS THE NIGHT! THE first Friday evening meeting of the season takes place at the Eddie Wright Raceway this week, with the visit of the Newcastle Diamonds in a League Cup match (7.30pm). It takes place in a middle of a busy spell for the FluidAir Power Scunthorpe Scorpions, supported by Henderson Insurance. Scunthorpe travel to Redcar on Thursday, and then comes the home clash with the Diamonds on Friday evening. Saturday sees the Scorpions involved in their first Premier League fixture of the season, with a visit to Border country to face Berwick. The week is completed by the return League Cup fixture at Newcastle on Sunday. In their opening fixtures against Sheffield, the Scorpions - with the exception of Carl Wilkinson and the brilliant Josh Auty - looked like a team in need of some competitive track time and they will get that in abundance this week. Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “I’m really looking forward to Friday’s meeting, against Newcastle, and see how we fare against the Diamonds. “We had a bumper turn-out against Sheffield on Easter Monday, which was terrific to see. The result wasn’t the best for us, but hopefully people can see through that, because we’re just going to get better and better as our new team settles in. “The weather is set fair for the next few days, and there really isn’t anywhere better to be on Friday night than at the Eddie Wright Raceway. “We have the best racetrack in the country and the racing is never better than on a Friday evening. Newcastle have already won at Redcar, and they are going to be up for this meeting, just as we are. “It is going to be a top night of speedway action, and we’ll be doing everything we can to ensure we finish the night with the League Cup points in the bag.” Scunthorpe’s full schedule for this week: Thursday, April 16… Redcar vs Scorpions (League Cup) Friday, April 17… Scorpions vs Newcastle (League Cup) Saturday, April 18… Berwick vs Scorpions (Premier League) Sunday, April 19… Newcastle vs Scorpions (League Cup) Admission prices for Friday: Adult: £15.00 Student/OAP: £13.00 Child (10 – 17): £5.00 Child (0 – 9) Free (accompanied by paying adult) Family Ticket £35 (2 adults, 2 Children 10-17) Match Programme: £1.00 Expected teams for Friday: FluidAir Power Scunthorpe Scorpions, supported by Henderson Insurance: 1. stratton
I think it could be close, if the track is deep and grippy Auty to get a maximum or drop the odd point.

I'm hoping the 'Diamonds' can, at least, keep it close.
lucifer sam
I'm hoping the 'Diamonds' can, at least, keep it close. I'm hoping for a home win between 10-15 points. But intriguing and hard to call, because Newwcastle have a solid team, but don't really have any stand-out performers there. dantodan
I always expect Newcastle to win away home or away! I am an optimist. However if we get beat then best wishes to Scunthorpe and I hope the Diamonds are entertaining and worthy of the admission money. I am looking forward to seeing Scunthorpe at Brough on Sunday 19th in Particular David Howe, Carl Wilkinson and Josh Auty who always entertain at Brough. StevePark
newcastle to run thorpe close, maybe even win. Is Mark making a comeback??? Looking forward to my usual visit to 'Sunny Scunny' and hopeful we can at least run them close, if not sneak an away victory.

ellioth4
Hopefully will be a much better performance tomorrow, after the poor riding tonight at Sheffield. Updates will be provided by me tomorrow evening.
NJC71
Hopefully will be a much better performance tomorrow, after the poor riding tonight at Sheffield. Updates will be provided by me tomorrow evening. Bit harsh to say it was poor. Sheffield have a strong side and the Diamonds don't have proven Owlerton performers so 36 was respectable imo. We should do better at Scunny although for some reason we don't have a particularly good record at the EWR.
crazysue
Is there anyone going to this meeting who would be able to text updates to the Updates site? If so, could you please send me a private message remembering to include your mobile number. Thanks
StevePark
I could end up with 'egg on my face' by saying this, but I think we are going to Scunthorpe at the right time, as they are still trying to gel and are struggling a little bit. I think we could well come away with something, although what that might be is anyone's guess!!

Newcastle didn't ride too bad at all last night, it was arguably Worrall and Lindgren's best performances at Owlerton.

EC Rides Again
Very good entertainment from both sides tonight. David Howe back to his old self after changing his set-up and silencer, apparently.
Albert
That was much more like it... bit of track time starting to pay dividends. Well done The Scorpions. Great to see David Howe back to his best....and a greatly improved performance from Theo Pijper and Alex Davies. Wilko and Josh more than played their part whilst their was yet again signs that Ellis Perks and Nike Lunna could become a formidable reserve partnership round the EWR. Nike fast becoming a fans favourite for his never say die attitude. For Newcastle...strange off night for Stevie Worrall. Rosen looked a class act, whilst there was some good support from Henry, Kerr and Lindgren. Some great riding and such fabulous entertainment, credit to both teams for that.
