Leicester V Belle Vue Saturday 11.04.15

Didnt scb say just a few pages back he could make it work in a few minutes?

Think leicester will more than double their lead over remaining heats, but obviously hope not.

No decent guests available to cover for zagar?

Not as easy that thou as you are perming more than 2 riders ... your also got to perm a whole fixture list that has to include every team and every rider so it's fits in . No matter how you do it the moment you decide to ride at the weekend then this what is going to happen as it did with Eastie for the last few seasons .

Belle Vue only losing by 4 and that's without their no 1.

With Pedersen due out in 2 more heats and with Belle Vue riders winning the last few heats, this could go either way.

For all the stick Belle Vue get the bottom line is that you can't run Weekend speedway at the top level in the uk without this thing happening nearly all the time . Ok Zagar and Cook might have been there another sat but when they can make maybe some of the lions might be missing . You only have to look at the sides that turned up at Eastie in the last few years to understand this is what's happens all the time .

Then change the way the teams are built then......

If you want any credibility and kudos in winning the elite or premier league then using guests left, right and centre renders both attainments as absolutely bollox....

The issue nowadays is that 'guests are a must' has become the mantra, and the easy, lazy 'get out of jail free card' to be played, rather than the bspa coming to their senses and realising that their very existence will never allow the sport in this country to be accepted as a 'major player' by the mainstream media and wider sporting public..

If you cannot build a credible team structure that allows seven riders to represent the team they are affiliated to week in week out, then don't try and do it....

Do something different...

As someone said on another topic no one yet after about 50 years has come up with a better and workable idea .

For all the stick the powers that be get it's almost impossible to find such a system you ask and hope for .

Yet Poland have 'discovered' a way round it?.......

What next for Poland? A quest for fire?

Never ever should any speedway fan in this country complain about lack of mainstream media coverage when they accept the way the sport in Britain allows this 'swapping' of riders week in week in out as and when it pleases....

What is up with Simon Stead, this is not the first meeting he has not scored much.

He said on Twitter being at no 5 is difficult. I suppose he would be better as a 2nd string than a heat leader although can't see him & Cook changing places.

. Would it maybe be worth Belle Vue swapping him to no 3?

Bringing in Stead was a poor decision, i expected nothing and so far he,s not disappointed, he should have stuck to PL only where hes banging in the big scores.

That's the confusing bit. Both stead and also Cook who got a max tonight for Edinburgh are doing well in PL but struggling in EL.

Cook is in a second string position so should make it a bit easier than it is for Stead with this format.

They are both capable of scoring well in the EL but for some reason it's just not happening yet

Sounds like the Lovely Scott Nicholls is having a great meeting though.

Agreed, its a big step up in class from being a heat leader PL to heat leader EL..

And to be fair to Stead in his whole career he has struggled big time with making that jump...

Like plenty of others over the last 50 years you understand the problem, but like all the rest you are unable to come up with an answer. Not a real world answer anyway.

Unlucky Belle Vue who deserved something from this meeting, keeping it so close until the final couple of heats.

Doyle and Nicholls both sounded like they had a great meeting. Good score for Worrall as well

Speedway used to have loads of mainstream coverage when they used the same guest system as well as massive crowds ...so not sure how it can blamed for the reason there is no media on indeed any of the other problems .

I don't think the issue is so much guests. We can accept that when a rider gets injured there probably little choice. But why arrange meetings that clash so that a team has to use 2 guests when it CAN be avoided.

Steady signung meant Cook as a second string. But when the #4 doesn't score big its wasted. I don't get why Stead was replaced by Worrall twice though - surely Stead wasn't that bad?

He was really poor.

But I wouldn't have took him out of 13.

Just think jack Lee is sheffield manager took him out of 2 rides. Got some big cahooners as jack. So fair play.

Was closer that expected and should have got a point but for nicholls making a complete hash of bend 1&2 in heats 15.

You can see the problem tonight. R/r for zagar got 2 points. Both points against a 5-1. No way zagar would have scored that low. Or any guest for that matter

???

But don't Poland have the answer already?.....

I.e. Don't have them...

Do you really think that Gollob riding for seven different teams each year week in week out as Rory for example does, would deliver the credibility to the sport that the sponsors of speedway in Poland would want?

Would it bollox..

Quite simply, if something can be done, then by definition it is achievable, so there, again by definition, can be no debate that the 'skill' is already there....

It then simply boils down to whether the 'will' is there too..

Invariably a No1 rider is replaced with a similar standard Guest in this country, but does it need to be?

Tonight for example, BV who to be fair ran RR, could have had Nicholls (as the second heat leader) to take two of Zagar's rides and Stead as the teams third heat leader (allegedly?) could be allowed to take the other two. In fact, any BV riders should be allowed to take an extra two rides to cover him so the Manager can tactically place a rider 'on fire' whatever his level..

Another possibility could be, Michael Palm Toft and Richie Worrall rode for the Aces last year at second string level, so they could be 'stand by' for the Aces this year to replace the Aces second strings as and when required (or even better be included at the start of the season in a seven man 'one to five' squad which would also mean competition for places). Instead tonight Richie rode as a 'Guest'....

The above two scenarios would be far more acceptable to a watching wider sporting public than the 'to you, to me' chuckle brothers swapping of riders..

I actually thought that the fast track idea would see the Guests diminish as with two spaces in the teams being 'ring fenced' it would mean those riders (often foreign journeymen) who previously got these roles, would then be 'looking for work'. Thus they could form part of the seven man/five places squad system to be used as and when..

Still...

Far better to carry one with the 'there is no alternative /head in the sand' option of Guests, Guests and more Guests, and let the sport continue onwards and downwards with it's proven level of 'success'.....
