Somerset V Plymouth 3/4/15.

Recommended Posts

So I will start the first one off for us this year. I hoping we will have another good season like the last three.

Early matches are usually a bit hit and miss but the Rebels have started ok imo so far. Its good that Charles is back and Ritchie recorded two good wins against Poole the other week. Provided Josh,Brady and Charles ride to form I can see a Rebels win by at least 10.

Our record is poor at the Oak Tree although we have run you lot close a couple times. Kyle missing is a huge blow although Rusty isn't a bad guest, Ash missing is also a blow as he looks to be in tidy form on his return from injury.

The Devils are yet to race this season so are likely to need the match practice - Therefore Rebels by 14 for me. I fancy we'll be a lot closer on our next visit though!

Any weather updates? I'm planning to make the trip across from Hampshire.

Rusty Harrison is traditionally rubbish at the Oak Tree, although new season, first few meetings, anything can happen so nothing like changing a habit of a lifetime.

Rebels should win and should win comfortably with Starke filling his boots at reserve.

Spare a thought for Kyle Newman, rained off at Poole this morning, rained off at Swindon this evening and no way of getting to Somerset for tonight's meeting that at the minute is still on.

Any Sympathy for me ? left Reading and was 2 miles from Brandon Stadium having something to eat when Coventry was called off-diverted to Swindon and was 5 miles from Blunsdon when that was postponed. So back to Reading without seeing a race

Good win for the Rebels, some good racing:

Grajczonek: started really well and has definitely defied his doubters.

Lanham: achieved his average so can't complain.

Worrall: one bad gate which nearly led to a 1-5 otherwise rode well.

Wright: see above. Still have my doubts about these two riding together.

Kurtz: faultless, his ride in heat 15 was amazing.

Starke: scored well and rode well but more challenges will come.

Compton: feel for the lad, he tries so hard and the fans can see that.

Fisher: couldn't get going all night. Showed his bad luck by blowing an engine.

Harrison: one great gate and win otherwise not great.

Holder: two bad races two ok races. First british meeting in anger.

Simota: one good race then not troubling for the rest.

Risager: devils best rider and almost dented brady's maximum.

Chapman: off the pace and doesn't look ready for premier league.

Nielson: only really beating compton and one was a gift.

I'd hardly say he couldn't get going all night, he was a decent 2nd to Josh in heat 1 and was comfortably in front and looking quick in his second before his engine went bang. On his second bike I'd agree he wasn't anywhere near as quick.

I thought Somerset showed yet again how strong they are at the top end. In the pre-season I wondered if they would be a top 4 team given the septet they were tracking but with Kurtz, Grajczonek, Worrall and Wright up top they will take some beating. However if Starke has an off night I still think you may be vulnerable.

From a Devils point of view, well the scorecard probably does do it justice although I still find it unbelievable how many jump starts you lot don't get pulled back on at your own track.

He didn't seem quick enough though for a no.1. Even on his first bike, he seemed a bit sluggish against the top pairing.

He had Worrall and Wright easily beaten and to be fair I don't think many will come to the OTA and beat messers Grajczonek and Kurtz. First meeting of the season so we'll see. I'm not convinced he is the Fish of old though.

That was bad luck to be honest. He was flying but he looked sluggish compared to his old self.

I think the score card more than done Plymouth justice, who were pretty poor. Risager mixed it a couple of times and Simota looked half decent when he got out the gate, but Holder and Fisher both looked very uncomfortable and poor at best. Nielsen was poor as expected and Chapman as predicted before the season began is nowhere near premier league standard.

A more than convincing win for the Rebels, with as you quite rightly say the top 4 firing on all cyclinders, and both Starke and Lanham chipping in with valuable points.
