Berwick V Glasgow (sat April 4) League Cup

Recommended Posts

Unfortunately, Sarah is bang on with the money with what she is saying.

To maintain decent and healthy crowds you must win at home, and if lose them then it is very hard to get them back.

For me the result is secondary, yes it's good to win but I pay my money to watch entertaining speedway. Last night's offering most certainly was not entertaining. All from the gate and well spread out, very boring IMO

Of course Bandit4evea is correct, to many fans £15 is a lot of money to pay out for a Saturday nights speedway, if the team is losing and the racing poor it doesn't take a brain surgeon to understand the people aren't going to go as many times.

I am sure the referees report on last nights meeting will be posted later on, giving some of the comments on here from paying customers it will be interesting to see how he saw things.

Lets be realistic . Yes got beaten by a very good team imo. Track needs to be looked at to produce more entertaining racing. But i for one dont know how to do that and wont pretend to tell anyone what the solution is . I actually think as a whole the bandits team will do ok. Once luke and matic get used to track etc. They both look ok speed and style wise. Dont think its at the stage where fans will be voting with their feet. Personally if we get beaten and racing been good i dont care. Would rather we won and racing good.

Rather than a collapse it looks like a better team on paper taking several heats to get their set ups right to get out of the gate. Once they started to do so you could see from updates that they would probably win.

A 7-2 usually helps with team morale

Fabulous, we're one competitive meeting into the season and we're talking about fans voting with their feet.

=D

We are Scott because it's the truth! We have a team who gate some time but when they don't, they are gonna need a track to try and work with! You wouldn't mind a loss as much if you had entertainment in the process but last night we had a loss with a poor track.... One meeting will already get people thinking... Edited by Bandits4eva

I am quite happy with this years Team,Unfortunately(without sounding like a broken record)is if Berwick set up a slick track there won't be much passing as the bikes are just to fast these days,as Ben found out last week it will take a do or die effort too succeed .The size of the track and speed they are going is not helping the Berwick track men who are putting in a lot of effort in difficult circumstances due to the state of the sport.they have my sympathy in that respect. The fans need to entertained as has been said in previous posts, the results are secondary to the diehard Berwick fans or the track would not be surviving in recent years.

I have to agree it wasn't the most exciting meeting Sarah, the track did look a bit slick, especially towards the end.

I'm being completely honest here, but I come across far more people who enjoy it than don't: and more and more folk in my neck of the woods are coming along and trying it out.

That can only be a good thing for the club.

They perhaps aren't the purists, and are just there for a night out, so I understand there are different, and valid, points of view.

I think today showed that we will be competitive, that's all we can ask for from a wee rural club with limited funds.

The reason I am so defensive on here (going way back to Peter Waite days) is that I just cannot see how the books balance in speedway. So, that means owners putting a lot of their own money into the club. Or, the other option is having no club.

People with the money to keep a speedway club afloat can easily put their cash into a different interest or venture. They have that option, however, we would be left with no speedway in Berwick and the only options to fans being Glasgow, Edinburgh or Newcastle.

I think having your say that it wasn't an entertaining meeting is absolutely fair enough, so I am not really referring to you (or others) in the post. You guys know what it means to support a club through thick and thin: that is for sure.

It is others who continually snipe on here, and I just wonder what they are wishing for? Do they want to see the club fail?

Last night I got a mate and his wife to go to the meeting (2nd one after Edinburgh in the play-offs last year).

He said he had been watching the football and Liverpool didn't get 2 goals from the penalty they had scored after being 3-0 down (the double points last season also cost Berwick against Edinburgh). I agreed that Claus probably wouldn't have been trying to catch Richard as much if Berwick were 8 points up instead of 5.

It got me thinking. What would have happened in heat 15 today if lets say Kevin had got double points in heat 12 as the match would have been on the line.

How about giving the team manager the option of using the double point ride in the first meeting between the sides knowing the other team will then be allowed the same function no matter the score in the other meeting between the sides. :drink::rofl:

I know it has been removed from 2 legged matches for the same reason mentioned above.

Well I must be odd, I enjoyed the meeting, probably because we have some form of speedway. Have to agree on track prep it was extremely slick, with some dubious tractor grading. However, after 6 seasons of gate & go, surely, we should be used to it by now. Someone said on Sat how did we go from a 15 point advantage to losing, to be fair the biggest gap was 12 pointst heat 7, but we always go backwards in the final 5 heats, so the same story as usual.
