Leicester V Coventry Sat 4th April

Recommended Posts

It didn't seem to work at Peterborough last night. Just seemed like a complete waste of time as it was still like a wet ploughed field round the outside, although admittedly I was overlooking the 3rd/4th bend so don't know what 1st/2nd was like but probably the same. The tractor did two laps after heats 2, 4, 6 and 7 but after that I stopped counting as Ipswich had obviously given up and weren't interested anyway apart from Danny King and Cameron Heeps who got stuck in.

Peterborough lol yeah all they seemed to do was grade the very outside of the track where all the heavy dirt was piled up and most of the riders were having problems if they got in it. Instead of moving it round the track which I know our ex trackman Huggy would have done.

Well, I'm going again today as I hope to go to all the Sunday meetings, but if the track is like that today too I have an idea I might just get a bit cheesed off. As a neutral I'd like to see some good racing as that's the whole point of me going but if the track is prepared purely to put the visiting riders off then I'm not going to be so keen on making the journey over from Leicester. The racing was brilliant during the Peterborough v Somerset match so hopefully it will be today.

It would be nice to know why its going round! Us old stagers know that if the tractor comes out unexpectedly its usually because the riders have asked for the track to be graded but new comers don't know that's why. It really is all about communication and not guess work!

Agree, but "newbies" normally get brought to there first meetings by a more experienced Speedway Supporters and would usually explain the "quirks" of the sport.... and therefore do not need this sort of info being spoon-fed by an announcer or presenter.

Well, if it's okay to quote my own post....that match was absolutely brilliant. :t: Only 3 races with no passes. I love Peterborough! :approve:

Apparently they take a picture when you arrive into the car park.

I know 5 people who have been fined,so yes they do fine drivers at night.

There is So much land by the track that could of been used for parking

Can confirm this is true. They take a photo on the way in and way out. I have two loverly photos of my car from them - they'll be waiting along time for my £85 :D

It will go away. My brother had a parking ticket when on holiday in Cornwall and is still waiting to be prosecuted 50 years later.

It's a real shame about the parking at Leicester as 235 spaces is a ridiculously small amount. Yes, I know parking is available at the Shopping Centre but as Shawn has found out there is the risk of being fined for staying longer than 4 hours. I missed the second half racing recently as I was worried about this (I'm not as brave as Shawn and would have paid up so didn't want to risk getting a ticket.) It's quite a hike up to the stadium so you have to take this into account after parking the car if you're not so young anymore so with a second half it would be quite easy to go over the 4 hours.

I'm a member of the 'not so young anymore' brigade. I park up at the shopping centre car park just before 7.00 p.m. It takes about 10 minutes to walk up to the track and possibly about 5 minutes to queue up to get in and buy a 20:20 ticket or two. So I am in position at about 7.20p.m. at the latest which is in plenty of time as you are lucky if the first race starts before 7.40/7.45 p.m.. So, even on a bad night, I am away from the car park well before the four hours are up. Its different of course if you want to have a drink with your mates either before or after the meeting but that's a choice you have to make.

I have always parked in the shopping center car park, since the sport returned.

Have never been over the 4 hour limit or even near it.

Well lucky you not having to travel 140 miles to get there with a 6 year old who wants feeding. I got there at 5.41. We then went to the pub for food. Then went in Tesco to buy some sweets and drinks for the meeting (you need these things when you're 6 to keep you happy when the track grading is dragging a meeting on!), then a meeting advertised to start at 7.30 start at 7.50. We were out of the car park at 9.49. So over stayed by 8 minutes. Now maybe if they had not delayed the start by 20 minutes to allow the later arrivals to get in I may not have gone over the 3 hour limit. A 7.30 starting speedway meeting should be over by 9.30 to allows us to get back to the car for 9.41.

But anyway, as pointed out, I'm not bothered. They can't legally do anything about it. It'd be akin to be charging someone £85 for reading my posts on the BSF. I can demand it, some mugs might pay up but no court will agree with me even if I have warned you.

But if they do want to pester me for money, next time I won't bother going to Leicester and spending money in the local area. If we do some up for the speedway again we'll eat elsewhere. Surely they should be encouraging away fans to eating the local pubs and restaurants?!

Blimey I thought I was slow walking back but at least I've got the excuse of two dodgy knees. :D

Spoilsport - you've edited the time on your post now.

If you arrive as early as that, there would be no problem parking on the speedway car park!!
