Maybe I'm Old Fashioned

No he wasn't. It was the directors of Midland Sports Stadiums, of which he was only one. But that still doesn't stop some Leicester fans from bearing a grudge for the last 30 years.

Grudges last a long time !

To be honest it's only what some people told me so they must believe it as fact...I don't know the full ins and outs myself only rumours and what I've been told , obviously by people still holding a grudge 30 years later !

If Ochiltree was just one director then it wouldn't be his decision anyway, even if he opposed it personally...didn't Martin Rogers blame Ohiltree though or is that not true ?

Who cares, not me, if this is the way you want speedway to go and do away with league speedway, just keep on supporting this company who don't support speedway as a whole, unlike all the clubs\promoters in this country.

Creaming off the top!

Oh I know. I'm still holding a few and some of them have lasted longer than 30 years.

I'm the wrong person to answer this as my memory is awful but I think you're probably right and Martin did blame the Coventry promoter. What I didn't understand at the time was Martin said it came as a complete surprise about Leicester closing, but the last meeting seemed really weird to me. It just sort of fizzled out with no 'Goodbyes' from the riders or 'messing about' like they used to do at the end of the season. It was as if he did know what was going to happen but as he says he didn't I've got to believe him.

In Martin Rogers book he says the first he knew of anything happening with regard to Leicester was when he got a letter dropping on the mat.

The grudge was to do that lack of warning and that even though CO knew that Rogers had moved home during the close season to be closer to Blackbird Road there was never an inkling that closure was imminent.

So did he also explain why the last meeting ended the way it did with no 'Goodbyes' from the riders? There was nothing like the usual 'end of season' goings on with fun and games before the fireworks started. It must have been very noticeable to stick in my memory as not many things do these days.

No mention of the end of the previous season at all other than the body blows of a serious injury to Mike Lanham and Mark Coutney's transfer request.

Just to re-iterate he (Rogers) says they moved into their new house at Oadby at the end of the '83 season and one of the first items of post they received was a letter from CO "telling us that Midland Sports were selling the Leicester stadium for redevelopment"

Goes on to say when the story became public knowledge "there were those who nodded their heads and claimed they had known, or that we had known. Maybe they had. We definitely had not."
