King's Lynn V Lakeside Tues 31st Sky 7.30

''With the new scoring system that helps the home side to score'' Dear GRW, could you explain please. Sorry if I'm missing something.

New this year, the home side gets the full 3 pts just for winning of the meeting, whereas last year the home side had to win by 6 or more to get them 3 pts. The away side scoring in still the same. they 1 pt for losing by 6 or less, 2pts for a draw , 3pts for winning by 6pts or less and a full 4pts for winning by 7 or greater.

I think that's the way, as I understand it. if I'm wrong, no doubt I'll be shot down.........

Nobody enjoys their speedway more than I. But sometimes, reality has to come into the reckoning. Sky Meetings are notoriously slow even on the best of evenings, but to wait around in the cold for some blasted Advert interval is not to my liking..

I agree we can get dressed sensibly for the weather but standing about, waiting all the time does nobody any favours..... so when the choice to either, to view from the warm armchair or to hang around in the blustery cold wind, I'm afraid there's only one winner.......

Please notice, I haven't even mentioned the cost in this viewpoint......

Sadly not everyone has the choice of watching it at home in the warm which means we either travel 30 + miles to see speedway or we stay at home and miss it. Think it will be back straight shelter for us tonight as it is a touch too far for me to walk nearly full length of track to get to first bend. Trouble is I hate being out of my normal viewing point !!! but better to be in the shelter than up on the top shelf in the cold and possibly wet.

That's exactly how I understand it too. I think it's a nice balance - as Jon Cook put it, it's bizarre that home fans would sometimes go home disappointed even though their team had won!

If we cant beat a strong Lakeside team at home, the chances of Lynn reaching the Play-offs must be pretty low. That's not being in anyway detrimental to the Hammers who will no doubt go well at Norfolk Area, but there are much stronger teams in this league than them. With the new scoring system that helps the home side to score, I will be very surprised to see Lynn fail to get all three points........ But saying that, Lakeside of old, are more than capable of picking up an away point.......

Blue sky and Sunny here at Walton, 10mls south/west of Lynn..... Still very windy and cold though....

If only life was that black and white! The reason sport is so interesting is that in pretty much any league any team can beat another on any given day. Burnley have achieved scoring draws at both Stamford Bridge and the Etihad this season but nobody has declared that either Chelsea or Man City won't finish in the top four because of it. If we lose to Lakeside tonight it would suggest to me that our form has much room for improvement before September. Would be daft to write anyone off in March! Edited by Gordon Bennett

You are spot on and unfortunately despite the paying punter having to fork out full price on such a night they are shown nothing for their loyalty, in return they are treated to a long drawn out meeting whilst those who stayed at home get all the riders interviews etc, there really does need to be more incentive for people to leave the house and part with their money.

And when did any professional sports club reduce the price because it was going to be cold, windy and on the telly box, I think you're living in a dreamworld.. do riders ask for a pay cut? Do refs and other paid officials say, look chaps it's cold and wet, Sky are in town so we'll do our jobs half price tonight, does the spares van turn up and offer the tyres and other bike bits reduced price? No, they don't!!

Why do Speedway fans expect a reduction then......?

No it isn't bizarre at all.

It's simply another example of speedway finding something good, and botching it.

This bull about 'going home disappointed' is just another one of their pathetic excuses for declining crowds.

When?

Very regularly.

In football, you know that fairly successful sport, many teams reduce their prices for games shown live on TV.

You, like those in speedway haven't a clue quite simply.

ALL sky meetings should be reduced in price. EVERY incentive and effort should be made to ensure that the viewer who stumbles upon speedway will see a packed stadium with a vibrant atmosphere.

Why? Quite simply because they will then be inclined to consider going along themselves.

Instead they are treated to one man and his dog and a morgue like atmostphere... which will attract nobody.

Fair enough, I guess not everyone will agree, but I personally think it's a good idea to reward the away team without penalising the home team for a close result. I haven't heard of it used as an excuse for declining crowds, and the majority of fans I've discussed it with are also quite pleased with the new version of the rule.

I also do agree with Jon Cook's comments on it, as I was a fan who sometimes would enjoy a close meeting but still feel slightly disappointed to have dropped a point.
